Turning point/Shots on target
Turning point - the header from Gudmundsson !
Shots on target - 0 !!
Shots on target - 0 !!
Re: Turning point/Shots on target
The turning point was when Zeki missed that golden change just before they scored their first goal.

Re: Turning point/Shots on target
Agreed, that was an early turning point, possibly too early. The missed header was the second when we were on top and could have led to a second goal.....

Re: Turning point/Shots on target
I don't even think its a turning point, just extremely disappointed that we can create chances like that and not even test the keeper. I wouldn't say any other than JBG's header should have been scored, but they at least should have been on target on 2 or more occasions.

Re: Turning point/Shots on target
Larsen has to score his chance too really. We were excellent after their disallowed goal in the second half. It was evident how much of an impact the crowd can have too, it was very quiet till then and you could see the noise gave them an extra yard.Foshiznik wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 8:33 amI don't even think its a turning point, just extremely disappointed that we can create chances like that and not even test the keeper. That header was a bad miss though. Saw quite a few folk saying odobert had little end product, but that mazy run and cross was absolutely magnificent. The ball in couldn't have been better.

Look this is not the game to analyse…. Liverpool team cost as against our team cost. We are not ready to play this standard of team. Put Liverpool up against city or arsenal and see the difference. Look at the bottom 6 that’s our league.

I think Larson was too far out for it to be an expected goal, but then again, maybe he should have got closer to goal before pulling the trigger.willsclarets wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 8:40 amLarsen has to score his chance too really. As for Odobert, he was immense in the second half on the left with his end product being just as good as his running at defenders. Totally agree.

Re: Turning point/Shots on target
If they had taken some pace off it, and hit it towards the middle of goal, they might have had shots on target. The number of goals would still have been nil, but the shots on target would have been higher.
It's a myth that Andy Gray was very fond of, that it's "important to work the goalkeeper". You actually have a better chance of scoring if you hit it hard and aim for the corner, than if you do a gentle pea roller to the middle of goal.

Re: Turning point/Shots on target
Agree in terms of all of the chances bar JBG's. He 100% should be scoring that. I genuinely think he scores that chance more times than he misses it.dsr wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 9:10 amIf they had taken some pace off it, and hit it towards the middle of goal, they might have had shots on target. I've only seen it live but I think Berge's was a very good chance too and should have done much better.

You could tell by his reaction that he knew he should’ve done better straight away.

Re: Turning point/Shots on target
I was just about to mention this. We had a whole host of chances to score, few of which were shown on MOTD:TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 9:51 amI've only seen it live but I think Berge's was a very good chance too and should have done much better.
- Tresor initially running at Liverpool, not dissimilar position to Odobert vs Fulham, doesn’t make a pass or get a shot away.
- Amdouni should’ve played Tresor in, imo, but took it on and fluffed his lines.
- Brownhill later bent one the wrong side of the corner.
- Foster slipped in a good position to shoot.
- Berge header
- JBG header
- JBL miss
Created loads of chances, just missed them.

Re: Turning point/Shots on target
The Berge chance I was referring to was the shot from the inside right position that he dragged across goal.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 10:01 amI was just about to mention this. We had a whole host of chances to score, few of which were shown on MOTD:

I think I’ve forgotten that chance then.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 10:11 amThe Berge chance I was referring to was the shot from the inside right position that he dragged across goal.
Didn’t he also miss a header similar to JBG’s? Hard to know when MOTD only show Liverpool chances.
Re: Turning point/Shots on target
The only genuine chance we created was the JBG header. The rest can't be classified as chances and that's why MoTD didn't show them, other than the Amdouni run and shank early on. You could argue they should have shown the corner that led to O'Shea flicking the ball on and it deflecting over the bar, but none of the others looked remotely like they would trouble Alisson.

Re: Turning point/Shots on target
100% this. Missed a similar one against Fulham.
In the games against the top sides you have to get these on target. We had a chance and missed, a few mins later they had one and scored. That is the difference at this level. You need to know where the goal is.

On the replay it showed the ball was just too high for JBG to head it downward.Foshiznik wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 8:33 amI don't even think its a turning point, just extremely disappointed that we can create chances like that and not even test the keeper. Re: Turning point/Shots on target
I get baffled by how we are not aiming set pieces / corners at Berge. The guy is a bloody giant and should be able to cause trouble or at least have 2 lads marking him freeing someone else up.
Man City aimed them at Kompany for chirst sake. Big lads are there to causes a nuisance at set pieces
90 odd corners with no goals? How many shots on target from them (sure someone stat minded can add)

Perhaps not too high if JBG had jumped higher.......Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 5:41 pmOn the replay it showed the ball was just too high for JBG to head it downward.

Fulham Xg was 0.42 against Liverpool it was 0.97. You have to take your chances!

Re: Turning point/Shots on target
we've had loads of them all season, the Amdouni inside of the post against Man Utd could have changed our season, very frustrating for everyone.
Re: Turning point/Shots on target
As good a player as Berge is, he’s absolutely bobbins with his head. Shame really.criminalclaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 5:53 pmI get baffled by how we are not aiming set pieces / corners at Berge. Re: Turning point/Shots on target
I’ve always thought JBG despite not being a tall player is pretty good when called upon to head the ball and I think he has scored headers for Burnley in the past??
Watching it live I thought he should’ve scored although watching a replay the cross was driven fairly hard as opposed to a Charlie Taylor type ‘9 iron’ cross. Not easy to get above the hall and head down and past the keeper.
Brilliant run and cross by OD.
