Re: REPORT:Home year ends with another defeat
Have we ever had such a bad start at home to a season - one win, nine defeats?
Re: REPORT:Home year ends with another defeat
Not aggressive enough. Too open and too passive for large chunks of games.
Was on a high after Fulham. Now I think perhaps we just got lucky. They had the highest number of shots on goal without scoring in that game across the season to date. Neither of our goals could be classed as gilt edged chances either.

Very fair report," Russell Ball’s cut price flags," really does sound like a tacky seaside novelty shop

"Without registering a single shot on target"
Difficult to comprehend.

Fulham, fortunate to be level at half time, then scored two really good goals and didn't look in much trouble after that.
Liverpool, as you say, not aggressive, too open and passive. We aren't good enough to play like that against the best teams in the league.

We've seen the team can occasionally dig in and do the ugly stuff but it is the exception rather than the rule isn't it? And it doesn't seem to be in evidence much at home. And that is what is ultimately going to cost us.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 5:43 pmWe are agreeing again

Wasn't it Dyche who said you have to earn the right?
Tresor doing the fancy stuff then giving it straight to one of their players several times in a row was emblematic of the problem. I'm not sure even the best teams can carry those types of players.

We could do with replacing Tresor with a far more tenacious Scott Arfield/George Boyd type wide player. Same for Amdouni. Both technically good players but they look like the wrong players for a relegation scrapPapabendi wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 6:52 pmWe've seen the team can occasionally dig in and do the ugly stuff but it is the exception rather than the rule isn't it? Most ways to beat a man in the Premier League seem to be either with pace or playing one twos ,Grealish is probably one of the few who actually can dribble past a man ,but we seem to have a team full of player that are excellent dribblers ,we just need to sort the final ball out and we’re laughing.

Re: REPORT:Home year ends with another defeat
Every Manager says how players need time to adapt to the pace and power of the Premier League, often for those already with age and experience abroad.
Obviously this does not apply to Burnley signings, they should hit the ground running and no excuses!
Maybe we should have a real clearout and get some proper players in, Crouch, Drinkwater, Walters, Brady, Gibson, Hendrick and Kev Long should stiffen us up a bit!

I took a particular look at our players when / after shooting.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 5:21 pm"Without registering a single shot on target"
Difficult to comprehend.
The look on their faces was a combination of " rabbits caught in the headlights " , panic, fear ( Brun Larsen), and generally low in the confidence of their ability.
Whereas the look in the faces of the Liverpool players is one of steely determination and utter focus, especially the obnoxious Nunez.
That is something which can't be taught.
Re: REPORT:Home year ends with another defeat
I called out Tresor as an example for this particular game but he's had around a game's worth of football across a win and a loss recently so we can't level the core issue just at him. We just have a few too many players in the team who, like him, are 'technicians not tacklers', the balance isn't right.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 7:20 pmWe could do with replacing Tresor with a far more tenacious Scott Arfield/George Boyd type wide player. I agree with you that on one side of the pitch we need a more defensively-focused player capable of dropping into central midfield. Carrying so much width and pushing forward will always mean we get caught out.
