Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Trafford - 8
Vitinho - 5 - great tackle at the end but for the most part he was poor.
O'Shea - 7 - could maybe be tighter for the 2nd goal but wins the header for our first
Delcroix - 6 - looked nervous but grew into it.
Taylor - 5 - ok but was on toast at the end.
Brownhill - 7 - could maybe do better with the shot in the 1st half
Berge - 4 - a stupid booking but also didn't track hard enough for the 2nd goal.
JBG - 6 - looked to stretch them
Odobert - 6 - a bit quiet but remains one of our threats.
Foster - 9 - a superb display of power running. He terrified them all day.
Amdouni - 7 - quiet but nice goal
Robert - 6 - should be starting over Vitinho.
Tresor - 6 - I think we've got to persevere with him. The talent is there
Ramsey - 4 - yes the penalty is a complete joke but so is his touch/decision - it's in the box so just clear it.
So many positives to take from that. Villa didn't beat us but the officials most certainly did. An absolute joke of a penalty - what can you do - beyond belief.
Defensively we still look fragile but that's probably the most threatening we've looked all season. The 10 men were excellent. If we play like that we'll pick up points. Whether we pick up enough we'll see but the performance was there today.

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
I’ll do my player ratings later but have to confirm what everyone is saying about Foster. He’s struggled since coming back which is understandable but he was absolutely brilliant today.

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Trafford 8 - made a number of very good saves. His distribution was also pretty good, a couple of excellent passes to pick out Vitinho.
Vitinho 6 - a number of sloppy touches and passes but stuck at the task well.
O'Shea 7 - solid performance and dangerous on set pieces. Needed to be more aware of where his full backs were for their second though.
Beyer - n/a
Taylor 6 - generally a very solid performance but culpable for their third, he got beaten a little too easily.
JBG 7 - good assist for Fosters goal, used the ball well and hiw discipline and positional awareness really helps us shore up the midfield.
Brownhill 7 - plenty of effort, some good interceptions, perhaps could have done slightly better with his chances on the first half.
Berge 6 - he was having a solid game but silly for the second yellow.
Odobert 7 - always a threat.
Amdouni 7 - took his goal really well but why did he leave the cross which Foster played to him in the first half? Probably should gave released the ball for the disallowed goal earlier....
Foster 9* - fantastic performance. His pace and power are a huge asset for us and he and Zeki are forging a good understanding.
Delcroix 5 - unconvincing. Is Ekdal injured?
Overall a very good performance and I thought we were a little unfortunate to go in behind at half time. The defending for both of their goals was a little naive. We are however improving hugely, the shape of the side was generally very good. The none decision re the red card for the intentional hand ball is nothing short of negligent.

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Hard to bear. Really battled well, just the wrong side of 2 offsides and a soft pen. When they nicked the second we were playi g some lovely football - we are getting better but desperately need a leader in the middle. Crap ref - homer doesn't really cover it but hey ho.
Trafford 8 - great performance
Taylor 6 - struggled against Bailey but 2nd half was overloaded
Beyer - na (worrying injury again)
O Shea 8 - battled hard and starting to look a player
Vitinho 5 - struggled like Taylor but very wasteful on the ball
Odobert 6 - did ok but needs to protect the ball better
Berge 5 - not a great game caped by 2nd yellow although that throw form harkie left him in it
Brownhill 7 battled hard especially 2nd
JbG 7 - stuck to his tasks and a lovely flick for the 2nd
Foster 8 mom - might have had 3 on another day. Made them look ordinary at best at the back
Amdouni 5 - good finish, rest of the match was typical - some decent touches but sadly plays for about 5-10 mins a game
Delcroix 5 - regularly gave the ball away in dangerous positions (including their 1st)
Ramsay 5 - was doing OK but essentially cost us another goal with a shite touch in the area to let them snaffle a 'penalty'
Tresor 5 not sure if he really made any difference - needed Redmond for his experience
Roberts 6 decent enough

Trafford 8. Not that much to do and no chance with goals
Vitinho 5 I prefer Roberts at rb
O’Shea 6
Delcroix 4 not a pl player
Taylor 5
JBG 5 inc 1 for assist. Otherwise wasteful
Brownhill 6
Berge 4 Prob cost us the game. Hope he is available for Luton
Ogdobert 4 disappointing today
Amdouni 6
Foster 9 MOM could easily have scored 3 apart from fractional offside and shocking decision by Attwell ( Luton fan )
Tresor 3 no effort whatsoever
Ramsay 3 a long way to go. Villas must be laughing at us
Overall a great effort by most of the team. Difficult to get a result when it’s 10 v 12 !

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Trafford 9 - Superb today, played a style much more suited to his strength
Vitinho 5 - Struggled today in the first half but got better - tough day out defending against Watkins who likes to pull wide... maybe time for Roberts?
O'Shea 7 - Have no issues with Dara now. People need to stop Scapegoating - him and Ekdal are our best two CBs for me.
Beyer N/A
Taylor 4 - Shite today sadly, though Bailey is a top player
Berge 3 - Woeful - moronic bookings and terrible on their second goal
Brownhill 7 - Everywhere, good attempts on goal and linked play well
JBG 7 - Showed why he is favoured in that 4-4-2
Odobert 6 - Bit quiet but moments of genius
Amdouni 7 - Brilliant finish, bit anonymous otherwise
Foster 9* - Superb, like prime Drogba out there. Did not deserve to be on a losing team.
Delcroix 6 - Will be scapegoated but did nothing wrong. No worse than Beyer has been at centre half.
Ramsey 4 - Miles off it, I admire VKs desire to bring youth on but this kid isn't mentally ready. Been a liability off the bench.
Roberts 6 - Could be pushing for a start? Tenacious today
Trésor 6 - Some good touches - want to see him start 'in the ten'

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Trafford 8 - faultless really, kept us in it and nearly got us points
Vitinho 5 - mistake after mistake, and, frankly, has to be upgraded ASAP, fine as a squad player
O’Shea 6 - had to carry players either side of him and he isn’t good or vocal enough to do it
Taylor 6 - not his best game and was booked early which didn’t help
JBG 6 - selecting him felt right and had a good game, I said before the game he creates more chances than almost anyone in the division and he assisted what should have been the point winning goal
Brownhill 7 - battling effort avoided us being overrun
Berge 5 - not his best game before the sending off which really cost us, happy if it means he missed Spurs not Luton but it should have been on 89 minutes.
Odobert 6 - fairly quiet and he does drift out of games too much
Amdouni 7 - in and out but a good finish and well needed
Foster 9 - tore them to bits with their silly high line coupled with offside trap. Really unlucky not to have 2, arguably wasted another couple of chances
Delcroix 5 - ok but struggled, unclear if it is not having much football in recent years because he does have a Belgium cap
Ramsey 5 - appears far too lightweight for that battle which isn’t his fault, there weren’t the right subs on the bench, Massengo would have been perfect, Kompany’s big mistake
Super encouraging and IF we see Forest lose it has been a good day. We are competing in every game and it gives me confidence we can get 2 wins from the away games left as well as 5 wins from home games, which MAY be enough.
Foster showed us what we have missed and with our weakness statistically being goalscoring and chance creation we now have 2 in both away games since his return. The Luton game will be the key litmus - spank them and we’ll know we can stay up, fail to win and its beyond us.
The result today - robbed by luck, silly VAR rules, diving and bad refereeing which fell for cheating. That’s what I hate about this league, it exposes smaller clubs to all of them. The “clear and obvious” rule is so subjective it brings in big club / home bias, e.g. our winner at Forest was deemed a clear and obvious error, whereas the handball red card today and dive from a minor touch of boots was not. That’s why this league is corrupt, they set the rules in a way that favours the bigger clubs.
But we crack on.

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Foster was excellent and it’s great to see but if he hadn’t hesitated to appeal for the handball rather than capitalise on the error he wld have had more chance to have a proper shot at goal rather than a late stab. Just saying.

Not getting the 4’s for Delcroix. Certainly not that bad in my opinion.

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Trafford 8 Best performance of the season. Made good decisions in possession and only flapped badly once.
Vitinho 4 Garbage, the way he deals with the ball over his head is lower league level. He panics and has no clue where its going so cant head it. Then compounds the error by continuing to panic and diving in. Crossing again woeful, passing erratic at best. Hes like a poorer version of Mo Camara. His pace is the only reason hes playing.
Taylor 5 kept at it but really struggled against a really tricky winger in Bailey
O’Shea 6 Think he did ok and is starting to emerge as the leader of the backline over Beyer.
Berge 5 Thought he had started to play well then made the stupid decision to get himself sent off.
Brownhill 6 His running stats must be really impressive, vital to the team even though he lacks quality. He is the leader of this team.
Gudmundsson 7 Hes in the team because his defensive positioning and work rate is fantastic. Also popped up with an assist. Taking him off for Roberts made no sense to me because JBG does such a good job defensively, id have preferred Roberts for Vitinho.
Odobert 5 not his day and got away with switching off defensively a few times. Bringing Tresor on for him when defending a point with 10 men was utter madness though.
Amdouni 6 - Right place right time for once, the rest was ok.
Foster 9 - Absolutely fantastic strikers performance. We havent had a striker like this since i started watching Burnley in 2002. Pace, power, great with his back to play or driving forwards with the ball and a very good finisher. Akinbiyi is the only one i can remember with similar qualities but at a lower level. Id be temped to go 451 with him up top, hes the perfect striker to lead the line and allow us to bulk up midfield slightly.
Delcroix 6 Awful until half time, especially on the 2nd goal but i thought he was good 2nd half. Still dont think he shows the aggression we need.
Ramsey 4 - another goal given away by him. He needs to go out on loan or play as a number 10 in a role with less responsibility. Cost us the result and id blame Kompany for that one. He should have moved him to the left instead of putting Tresor there. Jbg could have gone central.
Decent performance but i think we lost our defensive solidarity when Beyer went on. Unfortunately we have a few too many players that arent good enough for this level at this moment and it catches us out regularly. Kompanys subs were absolutely dreadful on top of that unfortunately.
Best display from a number 9 ive seen from us for a number of years. Him and Odobert could make us 70 to 80 million in the summer which will give us a decent budget to come back up.

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
I have posted my own opinions - Ramsey was abysmal. That’s an unforgivable mistake today and it’s not the first time his messing about has cost us.
I genuinely thought it was a typo from you but if you genuinely think he was better than Brownhill, who was one of our better players today, then I give up.

Undone by an incompetent display by the Ref

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Trafford - 8 Growing on me every week. Did well again today. Some great stops and he is starting to move the ball quicker.
Vitinho - 5 he has to stop the silly lunges. Covered really well a couple of times including right at the end.
O'Shea - 6 big mistake allowing Watkins to runs across him unchallenged. Just has too many arrows in him for this level.
Beyer N/A
Taylor - 5 struggled with his man but kept at the task and started to impress himself on him and then the sending off happened.
Odobert - 5 we can afford a winger who doesn't work hard in tracking back. Going forward he is great, but today he struggled a bit.
Berge - 4 what was he doing? He didn't even look bothered. He was poor all game, never got into it.
Brownhill - 8 he was very very good today. Broke up tons of play and even created himself a decent chance.
Jbg - 6 really sloppy with the ball too often, but did work hard off the ball.
Amdouni - 7 always looks out most likely goal threat, but doesn't offer enough support ok the midfield.
Foster - 9 absolutely outstanding. Battles for every ball. Wanted every ball. Chased everything down and created numerous chances for himself and others. Brilliant.
Delacroix - 5 just don't think he is Upto this level. Deer in the headlights.

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
When it comes to Ramseys part of it. Whether its a penalty or not is irrelevant. He took a really unecessary touch under pressure, wasnt aware of his surroundings and thrn kicked the player. Whether its a penalty or not is up for debate but it doesnt change the fact that its a woeful and naive piece of play from a player that has previous for doing that kind of thing.
Im starting to wonder whether Ramsey is as talented as i originally thought. Good midfield players dont get caught in possession all the time and usually have really good awareness and touch. He doesnt really seem to have any of those attributes.

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Doesn’t matter if it was or it wasn’t.
Trying to be fancy and taking a (heavy) touch in the box at 2-2 in the 90th minute, on the road against a top team, whilst playing with 10 men when we’re absolutely desperate for points is brain dead stupid.

Re: Aston Villa v Burnley - Player Ratings
Me neither, thought he did fine considering the circumstances (up against the quickest front 2 in the league, first game at cb for months, sub for our main defender half way through a game). He’s actually pretty decent on the ball too, I find his passing quite crisp and purposeful.
