January wishlist

Post by Belgianclaret » Sat Dec 30, 2023 5:34 pm

Two strong defenders for me please.

If we can shore things up at the back we’re still in with a chance

Totally agree with the above…. If say we had mee and Tarks at the back we’d be nowhere near the bottom

We’re weak as owt in the middle. We need a leader in the middle of the park.

Left back is a major issue for me, absolutely leaking goals down Taylor’s side all season long.

He doesn’t have the ability to pass the ball, he’s too slow to everything, he’s incredibly one footed and lacks attacking threat.

His defending for that third goal today was absolutely pathetic, he easily gave Bailey half a yard then started walking

Physical centre half
Upgrade right back
Left back (succession planning at the very least with CT probably leaving in the summer)
Centre forward
Physical midfielder

We MUST use our domestic loans.

Some bloody experience down the spine of the team.

CB and CDM who are streetwise and battle-hardened. Will quite happily settle for loans, just don’t spend anymore money on prospects.

Might not (very probably won't) happen all in January. But...

Two central midfielders.
A left back.
A right back.
A striker.
A centre half.

And, it's mad to say this, but if none of the wingers we've signed can get in past Gudmundsson (who wasn't good enough two years ago and isn't now) then a winger also.

3 good quality signings would do it for me:

- A Matic/Fellaini/Soucek type of holding midfielder

- Backup / new left back

- Center half

I'd like to see Beyer to right fullback and have O'Shea and Ekdal in there - I think Beyer will be more suited to fullback in the Premier League

RIGHT BACK. This Vitinho madness needs to stop.

Then a cente back (Eric Bailly?) and possibly a centre mid.

I see us getting one at the most so it has to be a right back. Its an absolute joke that Vitinho is still playing, hes so far off the standard its laughable. I stick up for Kompany a lot but not on that one, its a shambles. Id be fuming if i was working my arse off for the team and then see Vitinho undoing everyones work week in week out with pure incompetence.
He has done nothing to deserve to play at this level.

We're a Tarkowski and a Mee short of being a decent team, Taylor and Roberts are fine.

Vitinho and Delcroix are dreadful.

We're dreadful at full back. Vitinho was a bit part player last season at the level below. He's miles away from being a starter at Premier League level but hey here we are.

And we all know Taylor is playing because he's simply the only option. And no, I'm not including Delcroix.

Leander Dendoncker (Villa - Loan with view) or Harrison Reed (Fulham - Loan with view)
Luke Ayling (Leeds - Loan)
Sergio Gomez (City - Loan with view) or Aaron Cresswell (West Ham - Loan or Perm)
Danny Ings (West Ham - Loan)

Punt….

Toby Alderweireld (Antwerp - Loan/Whatever and I don’t care that he’s old)

Excellent post. Experienced and battle-hardened players only.

Let's actually have a go at trying to stay in this league instead of writing off the season in the name of giving kids a chance to potentially improve.

Ive no issue with Taylor tbh. Makes us a lot more solid imo, nearly a 3rd centre back these days which i think we need.

Yep some good reliable players there. Id probably stay away from Ings, hes lost all of his pace and doesnt really play. When he does play regularly he gets injured, hed be one of our highest paid players too. Id actually prefer Cornet on loan, can play either side or up front

If we had decent money to spend I would go:

For left back: Gijs Smal I think he’s perfect for us. Only got a year left on his contract so could probably get him around 8m.

For Centre mid: Joey Veerman would be a marquee signing and a real sign of intent.

Stiker: Adams from Montpellier. Perfect foil for Foster

We'll also need to get a good handful of players out of the club this window, even if only on loan.

Al-Dakhil needs a loan somewhere to regain his confidence that was absolutely shot after the first 10 games. Obviously dependent on us being able to bring in a much-needed experience CB.
Ramsey needs a loan somewhere, if only to stop VK from being able to bring him on to see out a result. He needs to learn big time.
Zaroury is clearly not going to get a game anytime soon, so best he goes out and actually gets some minutes.

Ahead of any new signings I'd like to see some discipline and organisation in our defence.

Man marking at set pieces and some far better organisation in following runners off the ball.

These factors have been somewhere between non-existent and dreadful all season.

That’s a couple of times that I’ve seen Ayling mentioned. He’s bobbins! My Leeds supporting mate would drive him over to Turf Moor.

Two full backs, dominant centre half, proper box to box midfielder who can use the ball and a striker.

Yes, the players and coaches need to put the graft in on the training ground when it comes to the defensive stuff. Not for the first time this season, our defensive line for their second goal was amateur stuff.

Half my family are Leeds season ticket holders (in fact…I’m actually going to Elland Road with one in a couple of weeks when they play Preston, shhh!) and they love Ayling. He’s lost his place as he doesn’t suit Farke’s system in the slightest but he’s a pure defender with brilliant organisational skills. He won’t set the world on fire in the slightest but he’s a solid leader who would do a job there for half a season. I’d have him in at right back ahead of what we have and I’m trying to think of players who wouldn’t cost us anything as we need to not have any more overhead if we get relegated.

Apparently this season is only about blooding young players. I wouldn’t waste any money in the window. We are going down anyway and should have a competitive team/ squad in the league below as it is.

I’d be thinking of him as a CDM to try and help our defence. We’d have to sacrifice Amdouni from the starting 11 for it to be possible though (unless he could play wide). Utterly hypothetical and pointless but, this is what I’d hope for:

———————————Trafford
Ayling———-O’Shea————Alderweireld———-Cresswell
——————————Dendoncker
——————-Berge———————Brownhill
JBG—————————-Foster———————-Odobert

I like the fact he’s 6’3 ish, gets his foot in and is experienced at this level. I think you’d see us see out so many games with this sort of spine.

He's had one bad game today Mr.Positive

Anything but leaking goals down his side all season
What do you mean Mr Positive? I was the biggest Dyche whinger on here towards the end and one of the most vocal about my dislike of the ALK finances.

Adingra scored against him at Brighton, Kudus won West ham the game. Salah should have had a couple. Today another 2 goals.

Can’t even be arsed to think of more but he’s awful, slow and offers nothing going forward. I liked Taylor too been a good servant for us but he’s washed and finished.

And I think Taylor has been finished as a left back at this level for quite some time, Pieters was considerably better in Dyches last 18 months.

I think it’s more to do with the system. He’s someone that should be a back up for us and no more.

Taylor can’t offer us what we need from a left back.

Watching Forrest here and Aina going forward offers them so much.
