Haha - she obviously is a little too greeen to understand her mistake. Surely, someone around her would be able to check before going live! She thought it was a penalty, too.
1st up.

Emery playing down expectations saying Villa weren’t considered for top 7 at start of the season.
William Hill were only offering 11/4 against a top 6 finish for Villa. They were definitely contenders.

Dion Dublin explained the rules that unless dive and few rolls holding foot like you’ve been shot .: you won’t get a penalty .: that’s cleared that up

Re: Match of the Day
our coverage was the usual insipid slop.
Had that have been arsenal getting beat like that , there would have been about 20 minutes of analysis on how bad it was for them. Instead they had us down as petty minded because we had the audacity to point out obvious handball, ridiculously soft pen for them. But, that satisfies the big boys in the league, we are treated with a pat on the head for trying. absolute disgrace of a programme thesedays.
we were clearly robbed of a point at least.

In layman’s term that means you have to cheat and that’s exactly what he did.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 10:51 pmDion Dublin explained the rules that unless dive and few rolls holding foot like you’ve been shot .: you won’t get a penalty .: that’s cleared that up

Re: Match of the Day
The game is becoming a farce. Orchestrating a foul by an attacker has become as key as overall tactics and coaching. If the foul that led to the pen happened in a Man City Liverpool game it would still be being discussed until next Saturday. MOTD brushed over it in seconds

Re: Match of the Day
Dion Dublin hurt my ears with his nonsense explanation of the 'handball' incident.
Re: Match of the Day
Lineker with his grovelling Yes Mr Emery ,No Mr Emery ,then a patronising little nod to Burnley ,what a prick, just started calming down after today’s injustice then that prat comes on,don’t know why I watched but expected a more reasoned report .

Sloppy, lazy research. Can you imagine if she'd said Billy Bumner or George Breast for example.

Re: Match of the Day
Like I said on the PGMOL thread, the media to an extent create the inconsistency in decisions. An incorrect call against the big boys is microanalysed by 'experts' on the TV but the same is not done for the unfashionable clubs.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 10:56 pmThe game is becoming a farce. No matter how much people say the club badge means nothing to the man in the middle, it adds pressure and to a degree the threshold in their minds for making calls.
VAR now rubber stamps this unconscious bias by just sticking with on field decisions.

Dion Dublin's like James Cleverley on speed. He does well to remember his lines for Homes Under The Hammer. Unfortunately he is ignorant of his limitations.

Said we played well and called out the penalty as a dive. That not enough for you?

What about the handball ,I only generally watch MOTD if we win but it always seems more than an afterthought with Lineker to mention us.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 11:40 pmSaid we played well and called out the penalty as a dive. That not enough for you?

Re: Match of the Day
It’s MOTD - it’s been decades since it’s been unbiased, fair or honest.
Semi-literate pundits don’t provide the level of insight or detailed analysis that a multi-million pound business needs, they just say what they’re paid to say.

He said that the ref got the handball decision wrong and that we should have been awarded a free kick, which we should.

Re: Match of the Day
I thought the analysis was spot on to be honest. Dion Dublin is a pretty useless pundit and even worse co-commentator but I think he summarised the key incidents accurately.

Imagine being so blinkered by Lineker's views on immigrants that you don't listen to what he actually says.

Re: Match of the Day
Seems all the pundits have forgotten that recently - can’t remember if it was the start of this season or last - PMGOL made point of stating that penalties would not be given on the basis of contact alone. There has to be some level of force involved. Seems nothing has changed, but nobody’s calling them out for it.

Re: Match of the Day
I can see MOTD fading out soon. Its overshadowed by the coverage from SKY and as has been said on this thread the current level of pundits being used is at an all time low, and proves the bar is very low to qualify and appear as a pundit. Ashley Williams and Dion Dublin being two examples

This link is old - 2011 in fact, but this is what Graham Poll said on penalties in the premier league and it is still the same -Goody1975 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 11:28 pmLike I said on the PGMOL thread, the media to an extent create the inconsistency in decisions. VAR now rubber stamps this unconscious bias by just sticking with on field decisions.
"Let me guarantee you this: none of the penalties given to Wigan Athletic, Stoke City or West Bromwich would have been awarded against Manchester United and yet they were against Norwich City. So are match officials really biased, do they deliberately favour the big teams?
The select group of referees which I served with did a lot of work with a sports psychologist, the excellent Craig Mahoney. He explained the difference behind conscious decision making and sub-conscious and that you can only really control conscious thought. I don’t believe that any referee consciously goes out to give soft penalties against small teams but I know that they only give stone wall penalties against the biggest ones.
One of the reasons for this is that they know the fallout, from the managers and the media, if they give a soft penalty against one of the big teams and the sub-conscious mind kicks in to afford the referee a level of protection, quite naturally"

I remember now .. good point .. otherwise we have players diving to the ground when a defender touches them on the back .. and VAR looking for contact ..I’m going to have turn Talk sport off soon if they carry on saying he got kicked xx there was the slightest contact and if he wasn’t in the box he wouldn’t have gone down like that .. why can’t people understand this is cheatingscouseclaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 9:26 amSeems all the pundits have forgotten that recently - can’t remember if it was the start of this season or last - PMGOL made point of stating that penalties would not be given on the basis of contact alone. Re: Match of the Day
I agree with you on this point. I genuinely cannot recall the last time I watched MOTD. Most comments about it seem to be regarding the pundits/presenter and commentators rather than the actual sporting content. A tired programme maybe and likely to go the same way as Question of Sport?warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 10:53 amI can see MOTD fading out soon. Re: Match of the Day
Unfortunately the majority of people involved in the game have been brainwashed into believing that the slightest contact in the box should be punished with a penalty. It’s quite odd but we are where we are.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 12:02 pmI remember now .. good point .. otherwise we have players diving to the ground when a defender touches them on the back .. and VAR looking for contact ..I’m going to have turn Talk sport off soon if they carry on saying he got kicked xx there was the slightest contact and if he wasn’t in the box he wouldn’t have gone down like that .. why can’t people understand this is cheating
