I think the chant ‘They only sing when they’re winning “ was aimed directly at Liverpool fans ,Jurgen having to wind them up .

It’s an absolute joke!

Atwell on VAR. Will want to be justifying his ridiculous decision on Saturday.

More cheating from Premier League players and another penalty given. Why on earth does Jota need to dive there? Embarrassing.
Because players know if there is any sort of contact they can throw themselves to the ground and at the very worst VAR will award a penalty. See Duran for Villa against Burnley.

He dived when he could have just put the ball into the net. Cheating at its finest..VAR is ruining football along with very poor referrees..I'm at a loss what they will come up with next..

It's pathetic that minimal contact warrants a penalty yet you can wrestle someone to the ground at corners, ruining football.

Neville saying it shouldn’t be a penalty as there wasn’t enough contact.,changes his mind more than the chuffing wind.

It’s almost instinctive now. Could’ve just tapped the ball into an empty net but felt the touch, had half a second where he was in 2 minds then threw himself to the floor.

It’s getting difficult to watch games as a neutral with the incessant cheating and the utterly inept idiots operating VAR.

I honestly don’t know the rules anymore.

So ANY contact no matter how small after the ball is played is a penalty… is that the rules?

If there is contact and you don't give it, then you are essentially saying you can read the player's mind and they could have stayed standing but chose to fall over.

Would you rather we just give pens for contact, one rule for all, or we claim we know people's thoughts and apply the rules arbitrarily based on the ref's mind-reading skills?

I think the keeper’s contact resulted in one of Jota’s legs slightly clip the other, so he was arguably off balance which may have made the shot harder. But he dived. And this should be penalised.

So if we give a pen for any sort of contact under that premise if I put my little finger on your back it’s an automatic penalty because I touched you ,there has to be some sort of intuition by the officials of how much pressure is being applied or else they’ll be a dozen pens a game.

It’s very definitely a dive.

He takes an additional step after minimal contact and isn’t falling. Realises he isn’t able to put the ball in the net quite as simply as he wants to and throws himself.

It’s cheating, plain and simple.

Trouble is the pundits don’t have the bootle to call players cheats ,a few years ago the odd player got picked out for diving and all of a sudden they started being scrutinised and their diving temporary stopped.

You can see his foot is knocked sideways by almost the whole forearm of the keeper, as the same the next step is taking place because of his momentum. It's a foul in the box, penalty.

Dive.

Interestingly they’ve just shown the Longstaff one at the other end. Minimal contact on his foot, goes down, not given.

We can add inconsistency to incompetence for the officials.

That's a dive pure and simple - he puts two feet onto the floor with no issues after ther contact and then thinks " balls too wide now ,down i go" Its disgraceful and needs calling out.

I think as well as golden boot and golden gloves of the season the media should have a table showing the teams and the players with the most contentitious penalties they’ve won over a season,it will probably very similar to the top six in the Premier League ,and also the official who’ve given the most contentious penalties is Attwell ,Jones,Tierney.

Another blatant dive, not called out and punished by the completely incapable officials. All that technology to help them and they're still choosing to ruin the game by endorsing cheating.

It’s a quite clear dive. The second angle is the giveaway - his facial expression is unchanged by the keeper’s forearm, he carries on for a brief moment, then flings himself to the ground.

1) was contact and a penalty… just no. Minimal if any contact. He choose to go down, you need to be brought down.
2) if no contact he would’ve put the ball in the net… just no. He pushed the ball to far, therefore wasn’t in control anymore. Hence his decision after another couple of steps.. to go down and see what would happen.

Listening to Beglin's co-commentary just highlighted everything that was wrong with Jota's dive. 'Because the ball went a bit further than intended, he then used the opportunity to hit the ground'.

There was a visible gap when you could see he was making his mind up. The stupid thing is, he could have just as easily scored.

Not mentioned above is that although these players are "running at speed", they still manage to dangle a leg out to make sure that there is contact there before throwing themselves on the floor.

VAR + offside =irritating.
VAR + diving for penalties = ruining the game.

It's about time that somebody with some degree of authority made a bit of a stand. If they say too much after the game then they end up on a disrepute charge, but managers go to games not involving their own teams, so they can see what is happening as an (almost) neutral, and the product is being damaged for the likes of sky.
