Re: strange substitutions
Any substitution that involves leaving Jay on the bench is a good one. He’s been bloody woeful all season.

Re: strange substitutions
You wanted Roberts and Jay on for what? to stink the place out again? Have we not seen enough of those two?
I liked the decision to put Al Dakhil left back and not disturb the central two by moving Delcroix out wide.

Re: strange substitutions
Larsen on paper has all the attributes to deputise in the role - decent height, reasonably pacy, shown he can finish, shown he can get in behind, reasonably two footed, decent passer and dribbler. He's also played up front before in his career albeit not a ton.
Experiment didn't work at all tonight. I'd like to see it with our first eleven against a team that's more for the taking like Luton or Forest before writing it off though.

Re: strange substitutions
No issue with the substitutions at all tbh.
Though if we’re desperate for a goal last 5 we could do worse than sticking Muric up top

Re: strange substitutions
Jay should have been on for Foster he's a striker so what's the point in sitting on his arse on bench he gets paid..

Re: strange substitutions
Jay should play long before Redmond who offered little again .
Re: strange substitutions
I think the plan was to keep a quick player up top to beat the high line of Spurs which, with respect to Rodriguez, hasn’t got the pace to do anymore.

Re: strange substitutions
And then Redmond went on wide and Brun Larson down the middle..
Re: strange substitutions
Bruun Larsen was simply dreadful up front.

Re: strange substitutions
We are simply short of proper strikers. Rodriguez not the answer and offers no threat and can see VK fading him out like he has with Cork.He has has numerous chances to impress and has one goal and one penalty. Sadly JBG is too pedestrian too, I appreciate he was not on the bench, but far too slow in this league. The mystery for me is having spent money on Obefemi in Summer, and he appears now to being match fit, why he could not have done a job last night instead of the disappointing Larsen. Obefemi is both quick and aggressive but appears to have been discarded. Roberts has to start v Luton as Vitinho does not have the discipline of defending required by a PL full back, and we need to cut out Luton's crosses

Re: strange substitutions
Can Tresor play down the middle?
For the last few weeks (first, when Foster wasn't available and more recently when Foster has run out of steam) I have been wanting Tresor on down the middle. It will allow him some freedom and he has the pace to at least trouble the defenders and make them wary of him. But VK must clearly only see him as a winger.
JBL offers no physical presence whatsoever and a complete lack of pace (and desire) when he’s put down the middle. Literally could be putting ANYBODY else up there and we would get the same effectiveness.
Not sure what it says for Jay and his future. That’s 3x games on the bounce now where he hasn’t come on when we’ve needed forward subs to come on and impact the game. Could we see Jay move on this month….?

Our preferred forwards at present seem to be, in order-
Foster
Amdouni
Brunn Larsen
Redmond
Rodriguez
Obafemi
Things had better change quickly

Re: strange substitutions
Jay hasn't stunk the place out. He's not the player he was albeit one or two on here seem to want to claim he has improved under VK, but the he's done fine and once Foster went off we were always one mistake away from an undeserved defeat.

Re: strange substitutions
I don’t agree with that at all and I was mystified that JBL was used in that position when Jay, who the manager was recently heaping praise on, sat there watching.

I get the feeling VK wasn't happy with Jay not taking his chances v Wolves and Brighton, seem to remember him mentioning them specifically in his post match press conferences.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 5:10 pmI don’t agree with that at all and I was mystified that JBL was used in that position when Jay, who the manager was recently heaping praise on, sat there watching.
Very harsh imo, neither of them were easy despite what people on here said.
Also may have wanted pace on the counter against Spurs high line which is fair, it just didnt work because JBL was pretty useless when he came on

Re: strange substitutions
Not easy chances? the goalkeeper was led on the floor 1 yard out and he still missed at Brighton. He’s 5 yards out with zero defensive pressure at Wolves and hits it straight at the keeper.
2 absolute sitters yet Amdouni gets hammered for missing harder ones. Funny ain’t it

Although Amdouni's chances in the Spurs game looked easy to the eye, on closer inspection both balls were slightly behind him so probably tougher to convert than they first appeared.

Re: strange substitutions
Amdouni's second chance was definitely more difficult than it first appeared to me, and it would have been a great finish had it nestled in the top corner. His first chance was made more difficult by a couple of really poor touches, we've got to be putting chances like that away. Credit to him though, he does have good movement to get into goalscoring positions.ClaretOfMancunia wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 10:05 amAlthough Amdouni's chances in the Spurs game looked easy to the eye, on closer inspection both balls were slightly behind him so probably tougher to convert than they first appeared.

I'll credit him when he starts sticking the ball in the back of the net.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 10:15 amAmdouni's second chance was definitely more difficult than it first appeared to me, and it would have been a great finish had it nestled in the top corner. Re: strange substitutions
At least Jay would have given us a bit of a presence up there. Larsen offered us absolutely nothing and just looked like a fish out of water.
