Looking forward to this. Hoping for a Sunderland win but probably Newcastle.

I think this is the first game I've got up at 4:30 am for this season. Atmosphere as expected, could do with Sunderland taking the lead to really ramp it up

Re: Markets v Geordies
My Mackem mate is gutted he hasn’t been able to get a ticket for this - first time ever he’s been unable to get a ticket for a home game that he’s wanted to attend
Instead he’s gone up to watch South Shields and is watching this game beforehand in their clubhouse

We were linked with Trai hume the Sunderland right back last season. He looks good so far.

Anyone know how Jobe Bellingham has played this season? Imagine he will have a very inflated price due to the name.
Re: Markets v Geordies
It’s ridiculous especially when clubs insist on bringing out three kits a season. Their navy or green shirts would be much better for not just those watching but for the players and officials too.Mrpotatohead wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 12:49 pmSocks aside, I'm finding it difficult to tell which team is which at first glance.

Re: Markets v Geordies
He has done OK, seen Sunderland a few times this season on TV and he has never set the world alight, granted he is only 18 so potential to get better, but his form this season has shown he is a decent Championship player right now, with the obvious potential to progress higher in the game but not to the level of his brother, probably forge a career as a decent mid table Premier League player, if he is lucky with injuries.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 1:08 pmAnyone know how Jobe Bellingham has played this season? Cannot believe that wasn't a penalty to Newcastle

“6 of 1”!! How is that not a penalty? The defender put his arm across him, grabbed his shirt and then leant into him!!

Re: Markets v Geordies
Knowing VAR probably, for me the right call though, both players involved in pulling and grappling with each other. How good is it though watching a game knowing when a decision is made that is the final decision and no sitting and waiting for VAR to get involved.

Wasn’t a penalty because 1) it was outside the area and 2) wasn’t a foul

OG oh dear
Re: Markets v Geordies
This is a great game of football.
An absolute throwback to how football used to be with brilliant atmospheres, full-blooded challenges going in all over the park, and no VAR to ruin the game.
1-0 Toon as I type.

0-1 Toon og.

Own goal, I guess he had to try and stop it getting further across the goal.

Ballard initiated the contact and made no connection with the ball though. If that was inside the box in a PL game, VAR gives that as a penalty.

it's only 1-0 but the gap in quality between the PL and the Championship is there for all to see

Two of the most unlikeable players in the league at Newcastle. I don't think I've ever seen Almiron or Gordon get fouled and simply get up. Every time they go down in complete agony and roll about the floor only to get up 5 seconds later like nothing happened.

Yep started really brightly then got caught out a couple of times. Better than what weve got but another that is still young and developing.

Re: Markets v Geordies
I know it's very hard to judge players on one half and you have to take the team he plays in into account but the first half did nothing to help Sunderland get 20-25 million for Clarke...

Re: Markets v Geordies
As already mentioned the gulf between a Premier league team and a Championship team is there for all to see. Sunderland have hardly been in the opposition's penalty box. Anonymous players running around unable to get in the game. Must be so very disappointing for Sunderland fans especially with the big build- up to the game. A stroll so far for Newcastle.

You just get the impression that Toon could step it up a couple more gears and still not break sweat.

This lad not used to derby policing. Decent kid though TBH.

Re: Markets v Geordies
Couple of Sunderland players who have really impressed me (not Clarke, he’s been poor):
1. Dan Ballard - despite the OG, he looks an assured defender.
2. Dan Neil - absolutely holding his own physically against a monstrous Newcastle midfield and getting some good passes off.
