Re: Guess who Spurs have in the FA Cup
If we’d beaten Spurs then it would have been City for the fourth time in seven seasons.
Re: Guess who Spurs have in the FA Cup
Didn’t we play them years ago on The Turf and Colin Hendry was playing for them?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 8:01 pmIf we’d beaten Spurs then it would have been City for the fourth time in seven seasons.

1990/91 and he scored the goal too. That was the only time I’d seen us play them in the FA Cup until 2017/18, then 2018/19 and then 2022/23. At least we’ve been spared that again.

Were we guaranteed to be the same numbered ball as Spurs? I never know how they work these things!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 8:01 pmIf we’d beaten Spurs then it would have been City for the fourth time in seven seasons.

A decent draw.
Spurs v City
Newport or Eastleigh v Wigan or Man Utd
West Brom v Brentford or Wolves
Potentially some good games there but watch it be something like Fulham v Newcastle on TV.

I reckon some balls are hot and some cold ,I noticed yesterday some media super fan at Arsenal was suggesting the FA Cup should be seeded so the big clubs should all get to the 1/4 finals, another stick to beat the lower teams with ,used to love when the lower div teams were drawn against the big teams at home and they’d play for a draw so they’d get the share of a big gate .fidelcastro wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 8:07 pmWere we guaranteed to be the same numbered ball as Spurs? Yes. The numbers are allocated as per the order of the previous draw and we were the seventh tie out for the third round.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 8:07 pmWere we guaranteed to be the same numbered ball as Spurs? I never know how they work these things!

That is exactly what a seeded draw would do? Guarantee a lower level team will draw a big Premier League side.Westleigh wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 8:13 pmI reckon some balls are hot and some cold ,I noticed yesterday some media super fan at Arsenal was suggesting the FA Cup should be seeded so the big clubs should all get to the 1/4 finals, another stick to beat the lower teams with ,used to love when the lower div teams were drawn against the big teams at home and they’d play for a draw so they’d get the share of a big gate .

Is it just me, or has Gary Mabbutt morphed into the late Bob Monkhouse ?
Re: Guess who Spurs have in the FA Cup
Chelsea seem to get a hell of a lot of home draws.

Re: Guess who Spurs have in the FA Cup
Although superficially true, in the alternate reality where we won against Spurs, all subsequent events would be altered, including the order in which the numbered 4th round balls were drawn.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 8:01 pmIf we’d beaten Spurs then it would have been City for the fourth time in seven seasons.

Re: Guess who Spurs have in the FA Cup
Is this when we (season ticket holders) got kicked out of the Cricketfield stand to make way for Citeh fans? If so, I seem to recall that Rocket Ron missed a chance to equalise in the final minutes. I could be wrong, though. It's over 30 years ago.
Re: Guess who Spurs have in the FA Cup
Yes but following on from that they’ll be no replays .claretburns wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 8:15 pmThat is exactly what a seeded draw would do? Guarantee a lower level team will draw a big Premier League side.

Re: Guess who Spurs have in the FA Cup
Thanks for that. I was right about Ron's chance near the end. It's amazing that I remembered it, given that the tie was an early kickoff on a Sunday and we had been at a wedding the day before.
