Northampton Town (a) 1986 - assistance needed please
We played the Cobblers away twice in 1986, in January (85/86 season) and again in the autumn (86/87 season).
I went to both which we lost, with a friend. One of these was a midweek evening game but I can't find out which one.
Need to know to settle a (very friendly) argument !
Thanks in advance.

I was at the 2-0 and it was definitely a Saturday. Memorable for an exchange at half time between some of our more vociferous followers and ex chairman John Jackson, which ended with JJ being moved on by the Police.

So the evening one was October 22nd.
Thanks !
Thanks !

I was at both games. We were lucky to get nil in the 85/6 game - a dreadful performance. Northampton were the outstanding team in the division in 86/7 but at least we managed a couple of goals through James & Hoskin. It was a long journey home that night.

Back then Northampton always turned us over that's until one Mike Conroy s converted full back turned striker scored a last minute winner in our march to promotion.

Surprisingly, we did actually beat them at home in 86/87 when they won the league easily. A win which later turned out to deny them a 100 pts total and was also a fairly important 3 points for us in the end.

Was that at the start of the season or was that the season before? Seem to remember going 3 up and they pulled a couple back.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 5:24 pmSurprisingly, we did actually beat them at home in 86/87 when they won the league easily. What year was it when Rocky got arrested?
Re: Northampton Town (a) 1986 - assistance needed please
That was the opening game of the 1985/6 season. You're quite correct with the score. We were 3-0 up before they got 2 back.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 6:05 pmWas that at the start of the season or was that the season before? Seem to remember going 3 up and they pulled a couple back.

I used to love watching the end of season video and seeing the guy with the crutch celebrating.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 4:17 pmBack then Northampton always turned us over that's until one Mike Conroy s converted full back turned striker scored a last minute winner in our march to promotion.

Pretty sure Rocky got arrested in the Waddle 97/98 season when we won 1-0. Wasn’t he watching outside the ground and cheering us on?
