Happy Clappers.

Post by burnley007 » Fri Jan 12, 2024 11:11 pm

As a fully paid up member of the Happy Clappers Union, I'd like to say I'm looking forward to the Championship next season.

It'll be fun.

We are 100% relegated this season. This team is a long way short of what is needed unfortunately. I really believed in us, until tonight.

Let's hope we can lick our wounds and learn from this disastrous season and come back better prepared.

Onwards and upwards etc

Think i'm with you. 100% positive happy clapper. That was bad. The Prem really isn't that much fun, fantastic earner, but we have to go away, learn and grow.
Championship is ace anyway.

It was bad, no doubt, but when you’re playing against 12 men it makes it impossible

So if we manage to get out whose going down instead of us?

I'm neither here nor there, I like to think I'm a realist but I'm looking forward to any game we play in where VAR isn't involved

I don’t think VAR can be blamed for us only getting a point again a relegation opponent that dominated a large chunk of the game with 2 decent footballers and a load of grafters.

Honestly shocked people thought there was a chance before tonight.

Even if we’d won tonight I’d think the same.

Likewise cannot wait for a year in the Championship. Just wish we could fast forward to August now. Honestly no point at all in loan signings in my opinion. I’d rather sign younger players we’re going to play in the Championship than develop Chelsea’s youngsters for them.

Yes, I'll have a go.
We simply aren't going to win enough games to stay up.
Our only hope is for one of the teams above us to go on a disastrous run of defeats, combined with an unexpected flurry of coupon-busting wins for us.

Any clearer?

I don’t think we’re too far away when our squad is fully fit, a couple of key injuries and we look miles off it. I thought we did more than enough tonight to win the game though.

I think the slow start has cost us badly, VAR hasn’t gone for us all season, injuries to key players hasn’t helped and I think we’re probably a couple short.

I think we’re a competitive team at this level, we will give most teams a really good game, we just come up short in those vital moments that decide a match.

What’s so funny/wrong?

We’ve been competitive at this level for a while, we just aren’t capitalising on the big moments.

Spurs away in the cup 0-1
Villa away 2-3
Fulham away 2-0
Wolves away 0-1
West Ham home 1-2
Luton home 1-1
Liverpool home 0-2

And more, we are no longer getting destroyed, we’ve improved, we just haven’t capitalised on moments in games to turn the performances into more points. Liverpool at home Gudmundsson misses a sitter to make it 1-1. Rodriguez misses a sitter at Wolves to put us 1-0 up. West Ham we’re winning 1-0 with 5 to go, nerves kick in and we lose 2-1. Tonight we had more than enough opportunities to double our lead and win the game then we get suckered at the end.

How many chances did Liverpool miss to put us away before the half hour mark?

But that’s what happens when the very top play the bottom sides (and even mid table sides) to get anything against Liverpool/City you have to pray they miss a ton and you take your 1 or 2 chances. that’s how football has always been

I don’t know why we aren’t ruthlessly taking glaring chances, seem to be on the end of dodgy VAR and we still can’t seem to get our best side on the pitch due to injuries.

It all just isn’t going our way, it sounds like excuses and maybe it is. I do think a proper right back, a starting nailed on right winger (Koleosho? ;) ) and a CDM to play alongside Berge transforms this side

When are due our rub of the green? Dodgy penalty for us or a red card for our opponent. Feels like every big moment just goes against us wether it’s VAR or our own undoing/miss. Almost destined to go down

Central midfield is the main issue for me, followed by full backs. We’re often overrun in midfield in games and tonight was a prime example. There was one good midfield player on the park and he didn’t play for us.

The right midfield position doesn’t seem to have anyone nailed to it. Koleosho and Odobert have real potential to own those positions but I can’t see both staying beyond the summer, regardless of division, and we probably lose both if we drop. So we probably lose both.

I don’t know if we were overrun or just chose to be more passive and structured because if we chose that approach, it worked, we limited them to nothing at all.

We absolutely missed Berge tonight but even with the injuries I thought we more than deserved to win that game (and I don’t think we were good tonight). But again, a big moment for whatever reason we concede.

Looking at our next 4 games, even if we beat Fulham, we would need 8 wins from our last 13 games to get to 36 pts and even that might not be enough.
Championship next year and I am not too sure this team would be good enough for promotion

Unfortunately we have given ourselves to much to do, I doubt our form is going to rapidly change to win at least 8 of our remaining fixtures, which I think is what we will need, if we do stay up then I think VK can be classed as the new Messiah.

Agree that we’re now extremely likely to go down.

It’d be lovely to think we can turn into a bit of a berserker and wreck a few weekends for the other sides, whilst continuing to improve.

Main thing for me is that we don’t start turning back into a soft touch having at least been more competitive in the last few months.

Looks like we are likely to go down now, but this season will turn out more than valuable in terms of getting the experience in the bank and we will be back stronger than ever (if we do go down).

They just need to ignore the nay sayers and hissy fitters, as difficult as that may be, as they will be the first ones bouncing about upon promotion next season giving it that they always trusted the process.

I think next season will be tougher than some think and I can see several deals needing to be struck to offload players. However, we should still be in a stronger position squad wise than most of our Championship competitors and one of the favourites for promotion.

There are no guarantees of course.

The game last night cruelly exposed the team's fallacies. Weak in possession, easily bullied off the ball, wrong pass choices, overhit balls and bad luck too. Perfect examples of why we are sadly going down. I have accepted our fate.

There could be a big turnover of players again. Hopefully Kompany has realised you need some steel/backbone somewhere in your side.

Losing games by the single goal is being competitive. We are 2 or 3 away from survival. We are in games, just not taking big moments to convert into wins.

We have lost 15 out of 21 games this season. In what stretch of the imagination is that being competitive?

We've been bullied all season and the same thing will happen next season unless there's a third year of mass transfers.

Year 3 of the project will see the club needing new signings and a debt of around £200 million, gaining promotion is going to become harder and harder. We've seen this before with many other clubs and how it ends, sadly it's becoming more and more apparent what is going to happen to us.

I look forward to the Championship. I utterly hate this division and it saddens me that we’re in this cycle of needing a promotion every couple of years to stave off financial stuff. Aside from the security of the club I’d happily never see us play at this level again, such is my disdain for VAR and the general circus surrounding the top clubs. It feels like it’s all so pointless (in most games, literally…). The amusement and wonder of the Premier League lost its allure to me many, many seasons ago.

We have lost 15 out of 21 games this season. In what stretch of the imagination is that being competitive?
He means we have become competitive in individual games over the last 6 weeks or so whereas earlier in the season we were being torn apart easily.

I don't get the original post though - how can you be a happy clapper and say we are 100% down in mid Jan???

Again you purposely misrepresented what I said, the start was atrocious. Losing by 1 goal is being competitive, competing in games, not far off getting points. These days we are competitive in games just not converting those performances into points.

Hang on a minute!

We are 4 points from Safety.loads of games left and we are 100% down..I can't get my head around that. Can you explain 🤔
I know what you are saying but let's be honest with ourselves. There are too many things wrong with the team both individually and collectively.
Whatever was the thinking this season it has fallen well short of what was needed to stay up.

I don't really understand or like the "can't wait for the championship" attitudes.

The championship is just like any other league, it's crap if you don't win games- it's good if you do. It seems the attitude is entirely based on the notion that we'll take the division apart which is not a given considering there is likely to be a better side than us coming down and there will be at least one or two other strong teams still left in the league.

A better sentiment would be I can't wait to start winning games- but then we could drop down to League 1 and really pummel some sides and it would fit the criteria wouldn't it?

I want to see us compete at the highest level possible, forgive me but with 17 games remaining or whatever it is I'm not about to start pining over playing Plymouth away.

I’d be surprised if we win any more than another 2 or 3 games this season. We are so weak and powder puff.

I’m not overly convinced this squad does anything in the championship either. We are going to need a good few transfers to balance the squad up and there are certain players who will not fancy a slog next season.

This so called project and having faith, sorry for me there is none. We just seem too scatter fun and I’m not convinced Kompany has the tools, especially now since everyone knows the blue print to beat us. High press and physicality.

Exactly my thoughts. I really enjoy the Championship but hate the thought that doing well means we will be propelled back into this circus. It almost negates the point of competing.

Maybe a European Super league is the way to go for the rest of us???

Part of me is uplifted thinking of a season in the Championship with Koleosho and Odabert running teams ragged as we storm back to promotion.

The other part of me wonders about all these loans, banking arrangements, debt and the weird contracts we seem to get tied into - like being obliged to spend 15 million this summer to turn Tresor's loan into a permanent deal.

We will have to sell some players - Koleosho and Odabert are probably the only two who might bring a profit on the basis of performances so far - although Koleosho's long injury absence probably makes even that unlikely.

We'll probably sell what is left of the old guard - Roberts, Taylor, Cork, Jay-Rod, Brownhill and JBG. We might have some players with Weghorst clauses in their deals who get loaned out. We might get some money back on Berge for example or maybe O'Shea. Maybe a Bundesliga team will come in for Beyer.

Zaroury and Benson's futures seem uncertain after the way they have been treated this season.

We'll have to decide what to do with the players we have loaned out - especially Twine.

We'll fill the gaps by signing some more 'exciting talent' from Belgium, France and other places and see if they can gel into the third team in three years.

All this presumes that VK is still the manager of course.
