Re: What is acceptable
It would have to be promotion, the budget he’s had dwarfs anyones in that league
Re: What is acceptable
Can't be anything other than promotion, but I fully expect to read posts on this board along the lines of "this team just needs another season in the Championship to gel" if not.
Re: What is acceptable
I can see this being the case aswell.
For me we need to be in touch with the automatic all season, playoffs at a bare minimum. If we fall outside the playoffs after the first 10 games then serious questions need to be asked.
Having just watched QPR/Watford game the quality was very poor ( apart from Livermore’s strikes ) and we need to be above that level.
Re: What is acceptable
After the fire sale it'll be a struggle for top 6. Won't be a walk over like last season people are in for a shock
Re: What is acceptable
Has to be promotion ( but I’m not sure we’ll achieve that). He’s had an easy ride from the board this season and been given far more of a chance than he’d get elsewhere. He’s also had a huge budget by our standards.

Re: What is acceptable
It won't be a walkover but we'll certainly be up there in the top places. Far too much talent in this side to be anywhere else.

Re: What is acceptable
Interesting to think what will be acceptable in the summer. If Kompany really believes in having huge turnover every year, and as well as losing the players who have done well enough to earn a move away we also decide to replace more of the incumbent players who we know are good enough for the Championship it will create higher stakes before a ball is kicked.

Re: What is acceptable
I’m not sure Kompany believes in this high turnover thing. When discussing it, it’s been in reference to how it’s been for him so far. He said he liked it in context of being able to imprint his style and build a squad in his vision quickly. The Prem then represented another reason to improve the team, replacing loanees etc. I can’t see how it’s sustainable, at all, to do that every year. The core of this team must stay together if their plan is to bounce back stronger.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 2:41 pmInteresting to think what will be acceptable in the summer. Re: What is acceptable
I hope he doesn't believe in it because as you say it definitely isn't sustainable. But judging on actions and words, he rather seems to.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 2:46 pmI’m not sure Kompany believes in this high turnover thing. Re: What is acceptable
The point is that VK has had to go for high turnover so far.
I would imagine there'll be a few players leaving to raise money on sales or by savings on wages and the glaring weakness in midfield rectified by a couple of incoming players.
Another large turnover of players is not necessary., his rebuilding bar the midfield, will be enough for that league.

Automatic promotion. Anything less and he will have taken us backwards.

Re: What is acceptable
Not sure about that but, yes, you'd expect us to be in with a darn good shout.
Re: What is acceptable
The best outcome possible for this season is Leicester and Saints to go up and Leeds to win the playoffs, will make next season much easier, it certainly won’t be a walkover like last season, we don’t play like that anymore.

Re: What is acceptable
We don’t play like that because we’ve had to stop because of the quality of the opposition we’re playing.
At the start of the season everyone was calling for Kompany to change system/formation for the PL to stop leaking goals and he has.
He’ll revert very quickly to his old system for the Championship.
Re: What is acceptable
Indeed. We certainly don't want a situation where 101 points isn't guaranteed to get you promoted if a couple of other sides are capable getting that number.

Re: What is acceptable
In theory with the squad we have promotion.
Who will leave between now and next season?
My concern is the players who were integral parts of the promotion team but have been somewhat discarded this season, what will their performances be like back in the Championship, it's easy to look at Cullen, Benson and Zaroury as the players from 2022/23 but will they have the same drive when promotion sees them kicked to the kerb once again?

Knocking around the top couple of spots at Christmas and ultimately promotion in May.
