Ian Woan's chewing
Bored, watching Everton V Villa.
Ian Woan's chewing, when chewing his chewing gum, is irrationally annoying me. So pronounced and doesn't close his mouth.
I've nowt else to moan about, it's been a lovely day so far.

BFS used to do this as does guy at Brentford
Re: Ian Woan's chewing
File under BFS, Dean Smith and Eddie Howe. Horrible to look at.

Yeh, it’s much better losing nine out of eleven home games isn’t it?Vincent'sCap wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 3:14 pmI'm certainly glad we don't have to watch Dycheball anymore

We are basically playing a Dyche esque system now anyway. With certain players that dont have the mentality to do so.

Remember when Dyche got grief for his substitutions
Re: Ian Woan's chewing
The dross we served up on Friday night was every bit as bad as some of those 21/22 performances I’m afraid.Vincent'sCap wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 3:14 pmI'm certainly glad we don't have to watch Dycheball anymore

Is that a sly dig at Kompany?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 3:16 pmYeh, it’s much better losing nine out of eleven home games isn’t it?
I'd sooner watch a Kompany team over a Dyche one anyday of the week.
Re: Ian Woan's chewing
Last seasons VK team was better than anything served up under Dyche. This season.. I’m genuinely struggling to separate them. Being objective about it, Dycheball was more effective at this level.Vincent'sCap wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 4:26 pmIs that a sly dig at Kompany?

Kompany play is so boring. Pass pass pass forward then back. Nothingness.Vincent'sCap wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 4:26 pmIs that a sly dig at Kompany?

Dyche was get the ball in the box and havecplayers ready to fight for it. Prefer that for the unexpected outcomes.

Re: Ian Woan's chewing
Fine. I’ve not enjoyed watching this team playing in the Premier League this season. Losing game after game I find less than enjoyable. If you prefer it then good for you but I certainly don’t.Vincent'sCap wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 4:26 pmIs that a sly dig at Kompany?

Re: Ian Woan's chewing
last season was easily the most exciting I've ever seen from a Burnley side, I was really hopeful going into this season although suspected we would massively struggle due to the lack of experience and physicality. I didn't expect the absolutely nonsensical transfer window in the summer and this season has been awful for the most part. You can't dress it up as anything other than majorly disappointing

Unfortunately, dressing it up is exactly what the manager and board are trying to do.
Re: Ian Woan's chewing
I used to say last season that I didn’t mind if we lost because it was so exciting ,well that’s come back to bite me on the backside,I would love the next 8 home games to be boring 1-0 wins.

Re: Ian Woan's chewing
The team we had in 2021/22 was one of the weakest collections of players the PL has seen in a number of recent years, with the exception of Pope, Tarks, Mee, McNeil and possibly one or two others. The fact we took it to the last game of the season before being relegated proves what a good job SD , followed by Mike Jackson, did that year. Everton this year are certainly not one of the most exciting set of footballers but SD has got them organised and they are hard to beat, as they showed again today v Villa which they could have won. With a bit more investment and with SD's experience we might never have got relegated. The last season under SD turned me against him,it was painful to watch, but having watched his management of Everton he has gone up in my estimation. I thought he was going to struggle in his next job in the PL but as shown he is now one of the strongest English managers in the Prem

Had the foul on Vydra actually been given at Norwich, or Cornet scores the 2 sitters he missed, we may even have survived.

How anyone can criticise SD after his nothing short of magnificent time here for the best part of ten years I really don’t know.

Re: Ian Woan's chewing
How have you worked that out, it was basically the same squad that had done so well in the seasons before. I actually think it was one of the better teams to go down in recent years. We were a decent side that were just coming out on the wrong side of the fine margins.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 8:54 pmThe team we had in 2021/22 was one of the weakest collections of players the PL has seen in a number of recent years, with the exception of Pope, Tarks, Mee, McNeil and possibly one or two others. The fact we took it to the last game of the season before being relegated proves what a good job SD , followed by Mike Jackson, did that year. And he chews with his mouth closed. My mam would give Thomas Frank a bloody good clip behind the ear.

The Vydra blatent pen, the Bamford scrappy equaliser, the Cornet pen miss, the Cornet sitter, the Weghorst Villa debacle.
Still have nightmares.

Re: Ian Woan's chewing
You have answered your own question -"the same squad that did so well in the seasons before". The only difficulty being is we did not strengthen it, unless you include Stephens, Peacock Farrell, Cornet & Weghorse as key improvements. Where are all these guys now. Our players were getting older and less effective, coming to the end of their careers and we stood still in a Division where you cannot stay still. We simply extended contracts of ageing players rather than invest and strengthen. The season before relegation we finished 17th.Goliath wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 9:54 pmHow have you worked that out, it was basically the same squad that had done so well in the seasons before. Re: Ian Woan's chewing
Id say Cornet was a big improvement to the squad and was our best outfield player in that season.
A team with Pope, Tarkowski, Mee, Cork, Mcneil, Cornet, Wood, Rodriguez as a spine should never have been relegated. Unfortunately complacency along with bad luck and a strange fixture schedule did for us
