It won't have helped, but it's been struggling for longer than that. It's a real shame.

I should’ve put a culmination of factors (as summit has said). But that part of town is a blag to get too. On a non-match day, there’s nothing worth venturing down there for.

It’s a useful building and would make a great community asset if owned by BFC . Supporters clubs could have a proper base!

Used it a few times on match days, back in the day.

Really? How on earth has that happened?

I see the committee have said it’s the reason, but it’s highly doubtful. They are hardly likely to suggest it’s down to anything else when another “excuse” is on their doorstep.

Sure they'll be lots of factors but I have seen the taxi trying to pull infront between the cones (only moving in one direction) to pick older customers up since the road works started. Would you bother if you were an older patron? The pavements have also been absolute joke and still are.

The current roadworks have had absolutely no impact whatsoever on my ability to get to the 110 Club whenever I’ve wanted to.

What has limited my visits to the 110 Club is that apart from Burnley home games I’ve next-to-no reason to consider a pint in that bit of town. I suspect that’s a bigger problem for most people than the roadworks.

It's a shame to see it's closing, but I doubt the club relied on passing trade. I've had pints in there on match days, apart from that, over the years, I think I've been in maybe a handful of times.

I'm not having a go at the KSC Club here, and it's sad that another local institution has gone. Thing is, I don't really do clubs. Far too cliquey for me. I remember going into one Burnley club, only to be told that we were sat in John and Joan's place, or whatever they were called.

Another time, on a quiet Sunday evening, we were sat in the lounge of a local WMC when the people on the adjacent tables started muttering about none-members coming in and taking places that weren't theirs. My point is, some clubs hardly encourage new people, unless you're related to someone who's been drinking in there for years. And if they do try to drum up more trade, it's usually because the place is already on its arse.

When most of your members are pushing way past retirement age, and you don't like new younger faces unless they are related to someone who has been a member for years, then you will struggle when those older people start to become too infirmed to go in, or die off.

Oh, and another WMC that shall remain nameless.

We went to a Christening just before the first lockdown. The gathering was in the 'do' room. I'd already bought a round in the main part of the club. When I bought my next round, in the 'do' room', it cost about 25% more. So the next time I went to the main bar, only to be told by a 'committee member' that this wasn't allowed. The bar staff looked on in embarrassment. Would we book another family 'do' or drink in there again - nope.

Committee members, eh? Now there's your problem - too many jumped up little nobodies sticking their oar in, instead of letting the bar manager/steward get on with it.

It is s shame. Mrs CM had her 21st do there and used to go the club many times in the past. I suppose that the Kearby roundabout fiasco won't have helped but suspect that, like many places, the ready availability of cheap supermarket booze will be the main cause.

It became a bit of a dump, I went before Christmas for the first time in about 15 years, it looked exactly the same.

Look across the town, there aren't many pubs making a good do and the only ones that are have to work really hard to keep them busy.

There certainly isn't many decent WMCs anymore, I don't think they appeal to many folk under 60 these days.

I only ever went in on match days but was the club Irish Catholic based on non match days?

Just wondering if the town has that much of an Irish contingent anymore? The Irish League's in both Burnley and Padiham went long ago.

Wasn’t Irish catholics as such - might have been originally 60 years ago but when I used to go in it was just known as a catholic club and part of the Knights of Saint Columbia group.

Used to be a really busy place - most nights the bottom floor and top floor was full. Top floor has snooker tables and darts. Middle floor was mainly a function room but they opened it up with both other floors on match day.

Like most working clubs (and pubs) it just got less and less busy as people got cheap booze from the supermarkets.
It’s almost had to close a few other times in the past too but been saved by donations.

There was a time when a lot of young people would go in the KSC and other working men’s clubs before going to the bars in town. You’d start off there around 6pm as it was much cheaper and not empty like the bars at that time. You’d leave around 8pm / 9pm and the older regulars would just be left. Again all this changed with the extended licensing hours and people not going out till 11pm…..that has killed off so many clubs and Covid and much higher energy costs have just been the final nail for so many

Nothing to do with the closure, but the term Left footers for Catholics came from the superior Irish spade imported into England. It was favoured (and superior) because of it’s reinforced left side; stronger and more comfortable for digging than the English spade of the time.

It was a matter of time, firstly it was a bit of a dump and secondly times have changed, these places have had their day. I'm quite surprised it lasted as long as it did. We now have the Fanzone, Park view thats been done up quite nicely, Vintage Claret, Ruby&Claret, The Turf and Royal Dyche on that approach along with the Miners round the corner. That's probably too many as it is, I'm guessing one or 2 of those will close down in the next few years as well. Vintage Claret for one always looks empty.

When places like this go there's always lots of moaning but how many people actually make the effort to support them? It's a shame for the regulars but a sign of the times unfortunately.

Me and my dad used to go in there before the games.

There were a couple of ladies who used to do the food in the kitchen at the back who were lovely. I think they were sisters and one may have been called Barbara but I stand to be corrected on that.

Only been in a handful of times in the last 20 years. I recall it being busy once (on a non-match day - quite possibly a Sunday afternoon). The other times I’ve been in it was dead.

Still been busy on match day, I'd started go back in over the last two seasons with my son. The second floor was certainly busy however things like the football screen were not in good nick.

Have to see where the group we meet in there end up.

After the Talbot closed we moved to Mojitos. But since the cask/real ale side of the pub has folded, we now frequent The Swan. Nice pint of Thwaites Original.

No pubs left open on Church street -
Talbot, Sparrow, Coach and Horses, Keirby, all the way up Colne Road.
Only one pub open between Padiham and Burnley town centre- the George IV and that's not open full time. All the old pubs along Padiham road now shut. Tim Bobbin still awaiting new management.
Only the Ighten Mount and Ighten Leigh clubs left where you can get a drink.

Rising costs and easy cheap drinking at home with the world at your fingertips, are the reasons public drinking establishments are disappearing.

The young uns will never know what's like to walk from t'Turf o'er tops to Nelson and have a pint in every pub along the way.

It's just a long sober walk now.

This doesnt really sound like a bad thing. Why do we want 18 year olds drinking as their man form of socialising. Lets hope they can find a better way.
