I think this has been mentioned before, but why was part of the crickefield end shut- Was it punishment for something or other?

A few grounds were like that for a period around that time, such as Everton. I think it was connected to objects being thrown at goalkeepers?

A very rare headed goal from Gordon Harris......then it all kicks off !!

Remarkably we played Arsenal three times within a week, the league game at the link was on a Saturday sandwiched between a league cup game the previous midweek and the replay at Arsenal the following Tuesday.

Arsenal had 3 players sent off over the course of the games. Bob McNab in the 3-3 League Cup draw, then both Frank McClintock & Peter Storey got their marching orders in our 1-0 league win.

That's really good but I didn't know they added in crowd noise? (Or someone has). I kept hearing a yell and when I focused on it its the same thing every time. Obviously most of the noise is real but they've added some yells in?

1:58. 3:53. 4:52. 5:11. 5:31. 6:28 and every 30 seconds to a minute thereafter.

Once I knew I couldn't stop listening for it!!

Nice assault by Andy Lochhead on McLintock (?) feet up, late and aimed at his nadgers, don't think our Andy would have finished too many games with VAR.

Interesting to hear chanting Arsenal fans and it looked like some of them were next to the tunnel area.

It was for 'foul and abusive language when protesting about the validity of Harris's goal.'

An interesting little thread with a link featuring some terrific Burnley players from a few decades ago and a memorable league game against Arsenal.

But, for balance, it would be inappropriate not to say a few words about the Arsenal 'keeper that day.........a certain Jim Furnell........JIm is a local lad, born near Clitheroe, and as a young 'un he wanted nothing more than to keep goal for the Clarets.

He got his wish when he signed as a Junior back in the mid-1950's and for the next eight seasons or so he learned his trade at the Turf and soon became a more than proficient goalkeeper. Problem was he was behind the likes of great 'keepers like Colin McDonald and Adam Blacklaw and played just a handful of games.

He was too good not to be playing regularly and in '62 joined Liverpool where he played lots of first team games before joining Arsenal a couple of years later and had a decent time at Highbury until Bob Wilson came along.

Jim remains a sprightly 86 years young and I think still lives in the area.

I was at this game, stood behind the fenced-off area behind the goal. Unbelievably I couldn't remember it at all, which is wild considering Arsenal had two sent off. I only knew where I was stood because I always watched the game from there until they removed the fences.
