The World Service is excellent, I listen lots. Feel like it's a bit of a hidden gem bizarrely. Some good documentaries on there and important to hear lots of different voices from different places, and news and topics discussed without a British/Western gaze.South West Claret. wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 9:10 pmListening to the radio, the world service being my favourite for its variety of subjects broadcasted.

Yes absolutely I first discovered it when I was working nights back in the 80s.Pickles wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 9:24 pmThe World Service is excellent, I listen lots. We find it very helpful in getting to sleep at night if we’re having trouble doing so.

Interesting you say cricket is your favourite sport, Tony?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 10:47 amMine have changed as I've got older to some extent, or should I say reduced.
I try to do some walking now - and my diabetic says it is the best exercise I can get
Music - concert days over, but I just have music playing virtually all of the time
Cricket - probably my favourite sport
The list does reduce as you get older
Have you fallen out of love with football?
I can’t remember the last time I watched a full football match on tv (bar Burnley), yet I would happily watch cricket or golf for hours.

Re: Hobbies outside of Football and Burnley FC
Not fallen out with football at all TsarBomba. I was brought up by a sports mad dad who took me to the Turf all year round, either to watch the football or the cricket. If I'm being honest, I rarely go to cricket now, but watch so much on TV. I'm going to try and get to more cricket matches this year.
The two sports are so different and I can't imagine not being able to watch either of them. I played both in the local leagues, my cricket was not that good but my football was worse.

Cycling and watching my boys play football.
We have horses so they take up the rest of the time.

Usual stuff like Cinema, reading and gaming, spending time with the kids/grandkids
Also into cars and just planning my first ever project car to start beginning of next year
Was going to be a this year thing but I’m about to start work at Jaguar Land Rover and they’re already going to honour this years 3 holidays I’ve got booked, so I don’t want to take the mick there when I want approx 7-10 days off to do the project

Not like I had but can still move a bit.
Lost a yard when having my knee done in my early 20's but it was mainly acceleration that was affected rather than speed.
I enjoy it and it gets me out of the house.

Re: Hobbies outside of Football and Burnley FC
Being a church leader takes up varying amounts of time, depending if I have anything to prepare for or not.
Music (listening), I sill love going to gigs and have a few lined up this year.
Music (playing) not so much now as I have arthritis in a hand so I can’t really practice and it hurts to play if I’m not careful.
Cricket is now probably my favourite sport and takes up most of my time, not just watching. Over winter taxiing my youngest to training (3 sessions for the next few months) with occasional sessions at leisure box if there is a gap between courses.
Over the cricket season itself, a couple of nights a week helping juniors, plus as many outdoor nets as I can fit in with my youngest, 30mins bowling isn’t a bad work out, even if I’m no longer competitive enough to keep up with him now. Ironically I’ve watched/listened to more coaching in the past couple of years than I ever got when I was young, I’m improving but not quick enough to keep up.
Playing pool, reading (if I’ve got time), we try and fit a couple of board games in each weeks as well.
I don’t really have much interest in football outside of Burnley now.

I've done helvellyn 4 times and blencathra via sharp edge so I'm OK with ridge walks. Hoping to get crib goch ticked off as well this year.Loyalclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 8:59 amCMD arete is great route up Ben Nevis and it's not as daunting as some of the pictures/videos make out. Enjoy

I found it a lot wider than Helvellyn. Crib Goch is a different kettle of fish! As part of the Snowdon Horseshoe, it's my favourite day of walking, especially scrambling Y Lliwedd on the return whilst hugging the edge of mountain side, slightly off the path.
