Eight Years Ago Today

Post by ClaretTony » Sun Jan 21, 2024 2:25 pm

Nothing dramatic like the Spurs game in 2009 but a significant day all the same.

21st January 2016 at 7 a.m. - Up the Clarets was launched with a fixture list, league table, squad list, some ticket information for forthcoming away games and an empty message board which, by the end of the day, had 740 signed up.

It felt dramatic at the time, and you and the others have done a superb job.

Well done to everybody involved.

You really ought to have some kind of "buy me a coffee" account for us to show our appreciation.

I can't be the only one who feels incredibly grateful for all the hard work that goes into this site and the gratitude doesn't get expressed enough.

Funnily enough, I was thinking earlier about how I’ve been posting on this board, and ClaretsMad before that for over 20 years now.

That has flown by as well!

I'll echo Rowls' comments as well; this really is a fantastic site for all things BFC and still has a sense of community with the fan groups etc.

I won't rant but It's imperative that sites like this keep running and keep a decentralised platform for their respective community - far better than any of Zuck or Elon's messes (that I do encourage posters to try and get off or at least post less on).

Kudos CT & all those involved in the upkeep of the site.

Wow.
Those eight years have passed quickly!

As as been mentioned, this site plays a big role for Clarets living miles away from the Turf.
Must be lots of hard work & headaches behind the scenes casual users like myself can't really imagine.
It's all very much appreciated.

HAPPY EIGHT BIRTHDAY.

No mate, there’s another Rowls who’s posted just before you did, he wants to buy Tony a coffee 😂

Like another poster not quite 20 years over the two sites but 18-19.
And I'm grateful it exists. Some of the fan sites you see out there just don't have the same sort of traffic this gets, especially for what people would call a small club. That's a credit to this board and the fan base of our club as a whole.

Here’s the inaugural thread, which I had the honour of posting. The plotting that went into that switchover…. 😆

Interesting seeing some of the users who posted or liked the thread.

Well done Tony, it’s a fabulous site and I know how much you put into it.

Brilliant site, congrat's Tony. I don't post much these days but read daily. Mucho good information on footy and other subjects.

Can only add to the complements for keeping this site running - to all those involved but in particular ClaretTony. Especially from 'down under' this site (and the previous one) are a rewarding constant link to life 'at home'

For that very reason. I had no control over it and it had been ruined by the company who were running it and a couple of people in particular. When friends tell you they can no longer use the site then something has to be done. It was all set up initially by DiBraidio, I got some basic stuff on the site and then got a few people to sign up and test. I think it was Christmas Eve when I was able to register for the board so it all went live within a month.

Been with this and the previous site for over 20 years. An integral part of daily life and allows exiled fans the chance to keep up to speed with goings on at the club and also met some good people both old friends and new faces. Keep up the good work

22 years I've been posting on the old site and this one, which is more than half of my life. I look at it most days.

CM became unusable with the ads and bots so this site was a welcome change. Well done DiBradio and CT.

Evidence if needed that negativity is contagious. Im actually starting to go off the football culture for this reason. It revels in misery and disappointment. Im fact this country has become very good at that in general.
The comments on the positive thread i started after the game yesterday were eye opening.
