He did both quite regularly. Him and Tarks were always straight in there with any scuffles between players. He was a first class wind up merchant.hetheclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 9:19 amBarnes channelled his aggression into his play, and it is what made him a good player, even if technically he was nowhere near premier league standard. I think it was van Dijk who said he was one of the strikers he found most horrible to play against? Barnes may have been aggressive but I don’t remember him getting involved in petty handbags that often.

Re: Roberts behaviour
He did absolutely nothing wrong last night in that incident.
Where else was he supposed to run ?
It was City who started this. Ederson was the only one who should have got booked.
The leniency shown by officials on City under Pep never ceases to amaze me. The most cynical team in the Premier League. Every single one of their players is under a very clear instruction that if City lose the ball then they bring down the opposition player at all costs rather than let them break on you.
For what ever reason they don’t pick up anywhere near as many yellows and reds as other clubs would do for doing the same thing.
Yet you accidentally run into one of their players like last night and everybody is waving their arms around.
Unfortunately you would never get VK speaking out about this because he is no doubt indoctrinated by the same philosophy.

My point was that sort of thing made Barnes a better striker. It does not make Roberts a better defender.ClaretOfMancunia wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 9:37 amHe did both quite regularly. Re: Roberts behaviour
They're both playing mind games and unsettling the other team. I don't see how you count that as an attribute for Barnes but not for Roberts.hetheclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:24 amMy point was that sort of thing made Barnes a better striker. It does not make Roberts a better defender.
I would have been far more disappointed if Roberts had shrunk away last night. He didn't do anything wrong in my eyes.
Re: Roberts behaviour
Joey Barton did similar in his hey day but on a larger scale. Robert’s get stuck in unlike some of the others. I like the lad. If he’d have taken out a Blackburn player last season he’d be a cult hero. I don’t understand why some dislike him.

Think he was so annoyed and tetchy last night because he knew he was getting sent to Leeds? 🫤

Smoking his pole ...BrilliantClaretOfMancunia wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 8:12 amYet when Barnes did it you were all smoking his pole.
Nothing wrong with showing a bit of spine, suggest the only wetwipes are those getting upset about it.

Re: Roberts behaviour
Didn't mind him trying to get something going last night. He's a bit of an oddball though, watching him warm up with BPF at half time was always interesting, the both of them just completely acting the goat. And let's not forget his stupid action where he reckoned to handball the ball on the line against Middlesbrough, which he got erroneously sent off for.

Re: Roberts behaviour
If this is the last we've seen of Connor (hope it isn't, be a shame for that to be his last game for us) then I hope we remember how good he was after the World Cup for us last season - he was yet another that was instrumental in our Promotion... did some seriously good work at right back.
In fact, I do sincerely hope that any and all that played last season will always be talked about fondly, seen far too many downplaying that achievement and just how good that team was.

From what I saw of it, the yellow for Roberts was justified but I thought Ederson could have got himself a red. Nothing here to condemn Roberts for though.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:22 amHe did absolutely nothing wrong last night in that incident.

Does anyone purposefully and intentionally go to Leeds?
I think you’re given a very clear indication of where you are in the world when you’re a professional footballer.
There’s stories enough to show that you are and can be ‘told’ to go.

Re: Roberts behaviour
I like Roberts a quality player if not top drawer.
Like most players he needs a system that suits his style, and neither Dyche or Kompany have got the best out of him. It's partly why he has always looked better playing for Wales.
Last season, against inferior opposition, he fit in well, but this season the whole 'team' has fallen off a cliff.
We have quality, we are crying out for experience and I can't see how losing Roberts improves us as a team.

Couldn't agree more, nothing more tedious than people hammering players with negative comments is there.

And he does take the occasional good throw in ,which can’t be said about the rest of the squad.

We are a team full of little maggots with no back bone or fight. Roberts was the only one with any . Doomed I tell you we are doomed
