I am not sure why, but this signing is potentially very exciting.

Welcome to Burnley, Lorenz.
Apologies if I've upset anybody tonight. I know I posted a bad taste joke on a thread that's disappeared. It's easy to post without thinking properly and I'm sorry the thread disappeared, especially if my post was the reason.
Goodnight everybody!

That was central midfield. Still a big gaping hole.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:29 pmThe key position to fix this window has been done. Good luck to the lad.

Re: ARTICLE: New full back Assignon signs in from Rennes
I dunno, I think as long as move to a three that we can at least compete in there. Amdouni needs to come out and one of Massengo or Cullen should come in, in my opinion. Vitinho tries his best every week but he was getting roasted every single time he was run at, it was becoming too easily exploited.

Re: ARTICLE: New full back Assignon signs in from Rennes
Fantastic news. I was baffled by the lack of right back links before today. Assuming he hits the ground running (which is a big assumption) we can now put out a first 11 that can compete at this level in every position. Thats a start

Re: ARTICLE: New full back Assignon signs in from Rennes
He won’t move to a 3. Cullen isn’t good enough at this level. Massengo in completely untried. Brownhill has been poor for months, and is quiet as a mouse on the pitch despite being captain.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:32 pmI dunno, I think as long as move to a three that we can at least compete in there. Number one priority (again) in the summer is a captain and general in midfield. Whatever division we’re in.
Then a fecking left back!

Yeah I definitely don’t disagree on the leadership front. I think Taylor is adequate enough at left back to see the season out but is clearly not VK’s man and will also need replacing in the summer.MDWat wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:33 pmHe won’t move to a 3. When they played Scotland fairly recently, I noticed that Berge captained his country.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:36 pmYeah I definitely don’t disagree on the leadership front. Has Kompany considered the idea of him captaining his club?

Not a bad point that actually, if we have a solid right back it may leave Benson free to do his stuff without relying on him to track back as much.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:24 pmPraying a decent RB will get Benson back on the pitch.

Feels positive this one. Fairly quick, decent crosser and dribbler. Tall for a full back. The step up may take a few weeks at least so we have to be patient.

Re: ARTICLE: New full back Assignon signs in from Rennes
Agreed Jedi. Both new defenders need to start v Fulham. If fit, Cullen needs to start in front of the back four (he was great against Spurs recently). Brownhill and Berge to be the other two midfielders but Berge (who is a different player when he runs with the ball in a more advanced role) can now play the Amdouini role. That leaves 3 positions free for Foster, Odobert and Forfar. With that starting eleven, I fear no team in the PL, bearing in mind we have played Man City twicejedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:32 pmI dunno, I think as long as move to a three that we can at least compete in there. He'll need to duplicate what Dyche did in bringing in Barton i feelMDWat wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:33 pmHe won’t move to a 3. Cullen isn’t good enough at this level. Massengo in completely untried. Brownhill has been poor for months, and is quiet as a mouse on the pitch despite being captain.

Re: ARTICLE: New full back Assignon signs in from Rennes
No there isnt. Our player of the season is playing in there alongside Brownhill who isnt great but offers legs which we definitely need alongside Berge. It sounds like the system you should be moaning about not the individuals.
We could use Ramsey in the 10 role instead of Amdouni which would bolster the midfield slightly or even move Brownhill forward again and bring Cullen in supporting Berge.
Cullen falls massively short when being asked to be the 'pivot' receiving the ball off the keeper and defenders all the time at this level, however if we leave that to Berge and just have Cullen keeping it simple and playing in the Brownhill type role he would probably be ok.
Either way i'd be getting Amdouni out of the side.

Hope he's coached to not dive in so much or he'll be roasted alive over here.
Re: ARTICLE: New full back Assignon signs in from Rennes
Looks a decent signing in a position we needed to improve upon. He and Estéve need to be superstars though if they're going to make us better in central midfield, left back and up front as well.

Don't know anything about him, but from the obligatory YouTube clips he looks to have some good attributes. Pace, power, reads the game well in the tackle.

Re: ARTICLE: New full back Assignon signs in from Rennes
I personally have no issues at left back if Charlie Taylor returns shortly and stays fit till the end of the season, Foster is playing well and now has a fit, strong athletic understudy.
I agree about central midfield though, the issue is exacerbated by Amdouni playing in the number ten role. Brownhill added stability to the central midfield last season in that role but we are easily overwhelmed with only two in there this season.
I think Amdouni takes a lot of stick and a lot of it unwarranted, this is an observation not a dig at him.
