One club man

Post by Westleigh » Fri Feb 02, 2024 10:38 pm

Oh for the old days when we had one club men apart from when they were in the twilight of their careers.
Brian Miller
John Angus
Jimmy Adamson,
Tommy Cummings
And those who left and came back because they loved the club and the town
Alex Elder
Jimmy Mc
Jimmy Robson
Arthur Bellamy
Willie Irvine
Brian Flynn
Andy Lochead
Les Latcham
Freddie Smith

So not one-club men at all

Why all this weird longing for the old days?

Time moves forward. Everything changes. Adapt or be disappointed.

Applies to everything- accept that things change and you’ll be a lot happier.

Jay Rodriguez has played for us for longer than other clubs combined, not sure why he wouldn't be in the second group.

Definitely, but a previous poster was talking about having a disconnect with the present team ,how things have changed when the players didn’t think twice about jumping on a bus to go to a game ,they say change is for the best ,but would love our kids and grandchildren to have had the chance to wait on Brunshaw rd waiting to get the players autographs ,of todays players half of them wouldn’t give you the time of day.

They don't owe you their time.

No slight on him ,I just couldn’t remember all of them ,however Jay went away to richer pastures where a lot of them were moved on to keep the club financially viable,

On holiday recently, I saw a billboard by the side of the road which read:

"Don't look back - you're not heading that way."

It's made me reflect quite a lot ...........

They kind of do ! Not that that really matters when the poster is just referring to decency and good manners.
Mind you I don’t think there is any evidence indicating our players would behave poorly in this respect is there ?

No ,but lots of young kids idolise these players and a bit of their time wouldn’t go amiss ( this wasn’t a dig at our players )

Why do 90% of posts on this board which aren’t controversial at all lead to people wanting to start an argument ,I know I like a good argument but for goodness sake just accept a post as it was posted,

Rightly or wronlgy football is a business. An entertainment business first, a sport second. Money will always win. Such is life.

Adapt or be disappointed.

Daniele De Rossi was the last of them, sadly.

Nothing wrong with reflecting on times gone past - not everything was sunshine and rainbows but memories are all we have at the end of the day..

Alex Elder never came back. He moved to Stoke and then continued to live in Staffordshire before he and his wife moved to southern Spain. They have returned to England now but back to Staffs.

Surely, Leighton James deserves a place on any list of players who returned to play for the club. He was even part of the team which played against Leyton Orient in May 1987.

I've heard nothing but good reports when kids have approached the players and management for autographs both this season and previous seasons ,so where do you get that they wouldn't give them the time of day?

There won't be many of us who work for the same company as when we left school.. we move where opportunities arise.. same in football.. it's only us fans that go thru the thick and thin
