I get it Zlatan, you have met me in real life, on a handful of occasions, and certainly not enough for you to form your view point of me so you keep making those subtle digs in at me which by the way you were totally out of order to do last time. If you unblock me on Facebook and fancy a chat, or see me on a match, you know where I am.

Just making a point here that I'm sure most people will recognise.

You know that Post Office thing that's been in the news a bit recently, do you know what that was once branded as? Yep you've got it- A conspiracy theory.

Being easily lead and lacking capacity to make an informed decision could lead to some people "going down the rabbit hole" but the same flaws make people at the opposite end of the spectrum go - "oh yes there's no way the post office did that, have you not seen they arrested several postmasters!?"

I think it's best to accept that there will be some "conspiracy theory's" that are close or closer to the truth than the accepted narrative. There have been countless examples that prove this over time so I whilst I can understand dismissing some, those who just dismiss all without actually weighing up the evidence available and making an informed decision are just as barking as those that wear tin foil hats.
The only post worth reading on this thread.

Based on a few posts on this thread? Ok then.

That’s fine, it’s up to him if he wants to block me because of my viewpoints on the vaccines. I would have much rather him message me directly if he has an issue with anything I am saying rather than hiding behind a username which he did at the time. I’ve no issues with him or any axe to grind.

Of course some 'conspiracy theories' turn out to be true. However, some crackpots believe every single conspiracy going; from 9/11 being an inside job, to 'chemtrails', to Covid being fake etc... And when that happens, they lose all credibility, thus, me calling you a crackpot.

I think it's just that certain people tend to believe a lot of consipracy theories. Rather than believing the official account of any given event they choose to disbelieve out of principle.
I don't disagree with this at all. It's all about making an informed opinion and being able to hold balanced views, which those you have mentioned above surely do not. But neither do the people who just dismiss anything because it's not the official line.

I stopped listening after his third sentence; "considering nobody in the Royal Family ever gets cancer".

Just goes to show how little research these bullshit merchants put into their Internet brain-farts.

you may be confusing or conflating me with someone else, I am not on Facebook. Happy to talk, but I have tried that approach with others and quite frankly it is a lost cause. The amounts of pseudo science that people spout at me about various subjects that understandably I cannot disprove (basically because the content is designed to be ambiguous and misleading) and I put forward actual scientific arguments based on scientific principles developed over millennia that are dismissed because it doesn't support their narrative - it is tedious and tiring and I'm happy to be quite these days.

Have we genuinely got more than one person on this board who thinks there is a global conspiracy led by Bill Gates?

I’m not Zlatan. I know exactly who you are and you did have me on FB at the time because I’m your rant at me on this board last year you said as much. Now I may have got the wrong end of the stick and took you coming off FB as you blocking me, either way, you know where to reach me if you fancy a chat.

Don't suppose that it even crossed his mind that Charles' maternal grandfather George VI died following cancer, as did his brother Edward VIII. (Albeit they were both smokers).

Well yes...and no.

Obviously it was just a recent example, and I can't pinpoint a day in time where someone said "this is a conspiracy theory". But logic and evidence suggests that's exactly how it was treated.

For example Postmaster X is charged but says he did nothing wrong. The community then ostracised Postmaster X because they didn't believe that the post office was at fault. Postmaster X then kills himself because everyone thinks he's making it up and he's been ostracised by his community. 20 years later it's finally admitted that the postmasters did nothing wrong except be a victim of crappy software and yet the full legal system, their community and the majority of people in this country believed they were at fault and the post office was nothing to do with it.

This is the definition of a conspiracy theory: A conspiracy theory is an explanation for an event or situation that asserts the existence of a conspiracy by powerful and sinister groups.

I'd argue this fits the definition perfectly. A powerful organisation covered up the truth and there was a theory/explanation that did not fit the official narrative. I don't doubt that some people doubted that narrative, but you don't think everyone did do you?

Just to mention I'm not a conspiracy theorist myself, I just enjoy these kind of debates. (Well aside from the response from the guy above)

I'm not sure enough people knew about it for it to be a conspiracy theory.

Well, why?

I don't think you can go back in hindsight and say it wasn't because it turned out to be true.

Up until recently many people have challenged, and have continued to challenge the official line- With resistance And that's especially important because it shows people did not believe them.

How does that not meet the criteria for being a conspiracy theory? I mean I've already googled it and you can see that term has been used about it in various media sources over the years anyway.

As I have said previously, masks are next to useless to prevent transmission or infection from an airborne virus. Anyway don't listen to me, listen to the 'experts'. Please watch the short video clip and pay particular attention to the last 20 seconds or so. This will explain to you why the global policy on mask wearing changed and it had absolutely nothing to do with public safety.

Not as a rule as I’m vaccinated, but should I test positive I will wear one if, on a rare occasion should it be necessary, as I am a responsible human being who is willing to do what is needed to stop transmission to others.

How very sweet of you.

If you're that bothered just stay at home, rather than wearing something thats effectiveness is now disputed at best, and has only succeeded in making a few rich people even richer!

How very sweet of you.

If you're that bothered just stay at home, rather than wearing something thats effectiveness is now disputed at best, and has only succeeded in making a few rich people even richer!
Yes the science is wrong there's stacks of overwhelming evidence that the masks help create a barrier of defence.

Spain must think they work as they brought them back a few weeks ago in medical establishments, and then removed them as infections fell.
Which ones?

The crappy blue ones that you could still smell farts through?

Or the ones that wouldn't look out of place at Chernobyl?

I'll look out for you at the next home game then. You'll certainly stand out!

I'm not bothered these days because with the emergence of the vaccine nobody really bothers anymore but back then the masks helped that's the point I'm making. To say the masks don't/never made a difference is foolish at best when you've got scientists & irrefutable evidence suggesting otherwise.

The vaccine doesn't stop you from getting COVID or passing it on. We were told that from the very outset of its discovery.

Given that fact, shouldn't you be still wearing one, just in case?

The general idea was to stop the spread or at least try to minimise it & the masks were 1 of the measures to implement amongst others such as social distancing. The measures when combined together reduce the likelihood nobody ever said masks alone will solve everything & I would still wear 1 today if I was around vulnerable people.

How do you know everyone at the Turf isn't vulnerable?

Even if there are any though, it seems it would be pointless wearing a face nappy anyway...
