Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
When I walked my dog in Towneley I always had with me poo bags, treats, a lead, a poo bag with a tablespoon of ground white pepper in it and a 4 inch long screw. Poo bags and lead for my dog, treats for all dogs, pepper to bomb on a pooch misbehaving and the screw as a last resort (stab a latched on dog in the rectum with that and it lets go and legs it). I’m not sure any of those would be effective with the timescales some of these dogs turn.

Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
Gary Delaney. The funniest stand up I have had the pleasure to see. Bought a ticket for a comedy evening in Ware in December with no details as to who was on the bill. Ticket was a tenner. They announced the headline 2 weeks before the date and it was GD. Rest of the bill were OK but no one I had heard of. Delaney was off the scale funny.Woonderbah wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 9:47 pmI accidentally kicked one in the nuts and it started to attack me.
My mate : 'That's karma'
Me : 'No if anything it's made it worse'

Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
Perhaps you can direct us to the statistics which show that more people have been killed/maimed by the owners of this breed rather than the dog itself.Shaggy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 5:30 pmIt’s not the dogs it’s the humans who breed/own the dogs which is the problem.
The xl bully is bred to be a trophy dog. Not my cup of tea but every one Iv met has been fantastic and well behaved.
Go after the rogue breeders and make people with large dog have a license to keep them in which they have to pass certain criteria much like a owning a shotgun.

Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
There are a lot of people who share your opinion. The issue isn’t so much that they are an angry dog (as any dog can be angry), it is that when they attack, they are so muscular and driven that it is almost impossible to stop them.Shaggy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 5:30 pmIt’s not the dogs it’s the humans who breed/own the dogs which is the problem.

Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
Bad owners don’t help with any dog but there is something very wrong with this type of dog. They shouldn’t be pets. If there was a range of dogs that had been badly kept this is the type i would least like to come across. There’s no need for them other than for chavs to pretend they look hard.
Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
Certain types of dogs have certain instincts. For example, Border Collies have an instinct for rounding up sheep (or other animals). Part of this, no doubt, is the way they have been bred.
XL Bullies have been bred to be fighting, aggressive, violent, lethal. So it is no surprise that they have that instinct. It's as untrue to say that XL Bullies are no problem with a good owner, as it would be to say that Border Collies would only herd sheep with a good owner.

Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
It's hard to say that this breed of dog has the characteristics to randomly attack people when they are in good owners hands, due to the fact that you have to be an absolute chav moron to want to own one.
Has anyone actually seen them in the company of someone with any degree of common sense?

Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
Xl bullies haven’t been bred for fighting at all. They have been bred as trophy dogs. The APBT and staffies have been bred to fight by some people.dsr wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 12:18 amCertain types of dogs have certain instincts. The dog itself is like any other in that you socialise, train and treat it correctly it’s going to be a lovely dog. The problem is the people who are drawn to owning these dogs because of their image. The don’t tend to look after them correctly and that’s when the behavioural problems begin .
Bit like a child. You find the ones that are semi feral and a pain in the arse have chav parents who don’t not care about them, or provide any guidance and may even abuse them.
Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
I hear your view and it is a very valid point. I would counter that though by saying that there are way bigger, more powerful dogs owned by people in the UK than XL bullie’sThe Quattro wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 11:39 pmThere are a lot of people who share your opinion. Capable of way more damage and destruction.
You look at anything like a Boerbul, Rottweiler, Mastiff, Akita etc
Why aren’t these dogs also targeted as if they attack they are way more capable of inflicting damage than an XL bully.
The main reason is the people who own these types of dogs are responsible owners who put time and effort into training and socialising their dogs.
Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
I was attacked by two dogs whilst out running, fortunately they were Scottie’s, so was pretty easy to boot them off.
There aren’t many dogs that I couldn’t fight off, but I couldn’t fight off an xl bully.
Luckily I don’t see many where I live, although every time I go to Burnley I seem to see one.
The sooner they are all gone the better. You wouldn’t own a lion as a pet and these beasts are as dangerous.
If my next door neighbour had one of these dogs I would find a way to kill the dog. I’m not even joking. I’ve got two young kids, I’m not taking any risks

Keep an eye on The Mail. How to kill one may be the next article on the series.Inchy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 7:23 amI was attacked by two dogs whilst out running, fortunately they were Scottie’s, so was pretty easy to boot them off.

No, that's bulls you're thinking of rather than XL bullies and the newspaper of choice to use is the 'Diario de Navarra'. Actually, you shouldn't hit/poke the bulls with it either, the theory is that by waving the newspaper, its movement distracts the bull's attention from you.Croydon Claret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 2:10 pmHit it with a rolled up copy of the Daily Mail or, if browsing online, an iPad will perform the same function

Great, isn't it. As if we don't have enough problems already in this country.Robbie_painter wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 10:12 amThey won’t stop at xl bully’s,beware the rise of the cane corso.
Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
That's no more true of dogs than it is of people. You wouldn't say that people who have been well brought up in a good household could never be a violent criminal, and it isn't true of dogs either.Shaggy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 4:43 amThe dog itself is like any other in that you socialise, train and treat it correctly it’s going to be a lovely dog. The femoral artery is the major blood vessel in your upper thigh supplying blood to your legs. I certainly won’t be offering my thigh. Dog cuts that and you might be dead in a matter of minutes.

A pen, pencil, or key in its eye might help.
Re: How to Fight Off a Bully XL
I can't understand for the life in me why anyone would want one of these dogs. You can argue that they "can" behave and that the owners are an important factor, but the fact remains that any dog can "flip" (for want of a better word) and the problem is when these dogs attack they can kill, as we've seen in the news far too much in recent times. The XL is the very definition of a dangerous dog and is nothing more than a status symbol for many owners.
Basic risk assessments / hierarchy of controls tell us that the most effective approach is removing the hazard completely. In this case, you eliminate the breed, which will happen as a result of the enforced neutering of the breed by the end of 2024. I'd argue that isn't soon enough though as there will likely be more deaths in the meantime. Owners will continue to play the victim in this, but tell that the many families who have lost loved ones to this breed of dog. Given the huge number of dog breeds available to our dog loving nation, I see no reason for anyone owning an XL given the evidence of their vicious attacks.

Stephen Lawrence died from a knife wound to the Femoral Artery, I seem to remember.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 4:48 pmThe femoral artery is the major blood vessel in your upper thigh supplying blood to your legs. I’m sure they thought their dog wouldn’t hurt anyone. They all need putting down as do most of the idiots that own them.

Anyone who decides to have one of these dogs now they've been banned should be up on a manslaughter charge if it attacks/kills anybody.
