VAR Is working apparently....
But they do admit that Berges goal was wrongly disallowed.

Re: VAR Is working apparently....
Back of a fag packet numbers. They’ve made 57 correct interventions in 230 games. If the ref makes a decision every minute, some including play-on. We have 20,700 decisions. This means the game is going to hell in a hand cart for the sake of 0.00005% (I made that number up) decisions.

Yes, but apart from getting the wrong goal scorer for the wrong team the sentence is 100% accurate! Pedant!

The sooner they give up the whole ridiculous VAR idea the better.
Even if they just have it as a backup, if the referee requests it.

Re: VAR Is working apparently....
We know they got it wrong, have they explained how?
How did the bloke in the VAR room look at it multiple times and decide it was a free kick and how did the guy on the pitch do the same?

Re: VAR Is working apparently....
My argument with VAR has been the same from day 1. We are not in any better position, getting decisions correct than we were before it, in terms of the number of controversial decisions being made. Yes, we have got rid of the blindingly obvious incorrect decisions, but we now have a seemingly equal number of blindingly obvious incorrect decisions being made after VAR has intervened. Before mistakes were soon forgotten, now they are talked about for days, if not weeks and months and analysed to the nth degree.
You will never eradicate mistakes totally (even obvious ones apparently) because the decisions being made, whether on the field or at Stockley Park are made subjectively.
The difference now is that the game is being ruined by VAR for supporters.

Re: VAR Is working apparently....
you'd like to think that on a discussion about accuracy in the game Sky would make an effort to get the details of the article correct, especially considering it has been their "product" over the years and their money corrupting it in the first place.

Well they wrote a letter and apologised to Sheff Utd but just as they were licking the stamp the assistant of the assistant VAR official noticed it was the wrong club. They then reviewed it again and decided rather than highlight their mates error they protected him and all agreed to send it to Sheff Utd anyway.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 9:27 amSo they couldn't even get that right!!!!? Re: VAR Is working apparently....
With at least 3 people involved in every decision and all the technology possible, then to smugly market that it is going so well - only 20 wrong decisions so far. Just inexcusable incompetence.
Re: VAR Is working apparently....
If we go in to the Forest game 6 points behind them it will be very frustrating.
Surely there has to be financial recriminations if it turns out that a decision as bad as this costs us Premier League status. Its not just an on field decision, its the fact they've gone back and reversed the decision wrongly which makes it even more baffling.

Re: VAR Is working apparently....
The name Video 'Assistant' Referee should be just that, the referee of the match should make the final decision, not handed off to a faceless group in Shockley Park who are miles away watching on a screen.
The more you take the decision off the pitch and the more people are involved it's open to misinterpretation.
VAR needs either binning as it is or, only using it for offside decisions with the technology significantly improved to show exactly if the player was offside or not, none of this line drawing business. If the boffins can do it for goal-line technology, tennis matches etc, then they should be able to produce a better solution that's accurate.
As for decisions regarding handball, penalties then that should be the officials decision. That's their job. To officiate.

The vast majority of fans are in favour of VAR? I know a lot of football fans and not one of them is in favour of it. They are probably using votes from armchair fans, you know, the ones who really matter

Just making these numbers up. I've stopped watching other PL games mostly now as they are generally determined on what mad decision the ref and VAR come up with and not quality on the pitch.

Re: VAR Is working apparently....
I’m interested in who the 17 were where VAR should have intervened but didn’t.
If the Ramsay tackle at Villa Park isn’t one of them I’d question the accuracy of this PL analysis, because Webb’s own guidance was that VAR should intervene for going down after too minimal contact.

Saying "the majority of fans are in favour of VAR" is like announcing the results of a Russian general election. You struggle to actually find anyone who is in favour despite the "landslide" verdict.

To suggest that the majority of fans are in favour of VAR is just downright ridiculous and I'm far from happy that my name has been put to that statement.

Re: VAR Is working apparently....
I only know of one fan that was still in favour of VAR, and that was last season, so his view may have changed since then.
I'd love to know who these fans are that they're asking!

Re: VAR Is working apparently....
If fans were given an opinion poll where the only option was "I am in favour of VAR", and no other vote would be counted, they would still struggle to find a majority. I think it would be a 0-0 draw. I don't know anyone who is remotely in favour. One or two who say it could work but the current system is rubbish, but if the PL are counting that as a positive vote ...
Re: VAR Is working apparently....
Out of interest, how many VAR locations are there, do they have multiple to check a couple/few games, or are they watching five or more? I'm thinking there is not one VAR centre for each game being played?
Musing further, it seems I'm continually hearing different names in the VAR location, I'm thinking it might be better to have people dedicated to VAR, that are always there, watching and providing a more consistent view and decision making. Having a few dedicated VAR personnel, that are consistently reviewed and attend training/feedback sessions. Plus, a weekly meeting with the selected referees for the past week and up and coming games, might and I only say might, improve consistent decision making.

So, let's have a straw poll on here.
I'm 100% against VAR in any way shape or form.
I would guess most other replies are going to be a jumble of this bits ok or that's OK if etc etc.

Unless you think the officials are corrupt, there is no need for it.
