Blue card
Good for dissent, the cynical fouls part will get them into a whole heap of trouble though, not sure Man City will have any players on the pitch

Sin bin certainly works in Ice Hockey but not sure it does in Rugby.

Re: Blue card
So 5 minutes to go and a team is 3-0 they could then call Rob Jones a cheating d**khead and you would miss the last 5 minutes of the game ? Sounds good value.
Or would you have to miss the first 5minutes of the next game ?

Re: Blue card
I was just thinking that what the game needs is some more added layers of complexity, ideally around rules and officiating.

Is this actually coming in or is it being tested at non-league level first?

Re: Blue card
Would a second offence not warrant a yellow card? If not then surely a green card would be the half-way house.

Re: Blue card
Deliberate cynical fouls need stamping out.
Maybe even red card them.
The harsh punishment you can get for accidental handball or genuine attempts at the ball, deliberate fouls need a harsher punishment than that.

Re: Blue card
When has dissent ever run a football match? Refs should just take control. Though that said, remember when they were booking players left, right and centre for petty stuff like nudging the ball away after giving away free kicks and throw-ins at the beginning of the season.... they don't do it now?! They're not consistent.
I'm sick of referees thinking the game belongs to them. I wish they'd just **** off.

Re: Blue card
Similar to rugby they should have the ability to upgrade a blue card to red if required, to keep the game flowing.
Ref thinks potential red and issues blue, VAR then look at it whilst the game keeps going and upgrade if required instead of the game stopping for 5 mins whilst they replay 15 angles at different speeds.

Re: Blue card
What problem that isn’t covered by yellow and red does this solve?
Exactly….
Drawing our attention away from the cluster **** that is VAR.

Re: Blue card
The game is a quite simple one, why complicate it with new rules......what was wrong with 22 players, 1 ref and 2 linesmen.... and come to that, just the 1 sub.

Re: Blue card
Stop a certain goal in return for a 10 minute break - no brainer!
Re: Blue card
It's like the old joke, player goes up to the ref and says what would you do if I called you a w@nker? Ref says I'd send you off, player then says what would you do if I thought you were a w@nker? Ref says nothing as you cannot read minds so thoughts are OK. Player says oh that's good, I think you're a w@nker.
If they are going to introduce this there needs to be clear guidelines and consistency.
TBH I think it's long overdue but has to be implemented correctly.

Re: Blue card
When you thought football couldn't get any worse, the self proclaimed authority comes up with more rubbish to make it worse.
Although they could have come up with rainbow coloured cards to rub fans up the wrong way even further.

88 minutes, the scores are level, cue all the diving to get players sin binned.
11v11 for the whole 90 minutes is over.

Re: Blue card
Brilliant idea, but I think they’ve missed a trick… the referee should hold three cards and the guilty player has to pick one to decide the punishment. While we are at it there should be a second referee; the first reverting to all black kit, the second to all white. When the referees disagree they could put on sumo suits and fight it out in the centre circle, with the winner being decided by VAR before the game resumes. To get everyone back engaged in the game after this should be a ten minute period of multi-ball where three balls are put into play and only VAR know which is the ‘real’ ball’. You could also have a gold card, any player picking this card can for the next five minutes use their hands. This would do away with the need for additional breaks… as popcorn sellers could be scattered around the touch-line and stands offering in game refreshment for both fans and players…

Re: Blue card
Dissent should be a yellow card every time, that would make a real difference to players' behaviour.

What's wrong with a yellow card being 10 minutes in the bin?

Re: Blue card
The same problem will surface, mainly consistency.
I can imagine teams at the bottom having players sin binned, whilst players from the top 6 get away with it. Just yet another reason to stick it to us.
There are already rules in place to deal with dissent, all it takes is referees to implement them.
Thankfully it looks as though the idea has been binned......for now.
