Premier League and Championship club chiefs met at a dinner this week in an attempt to get the new funding package for the lower divisions across the line.

Burnley’s owner, Alan Pace, organised the dinner, though some Premier League clubs — mainly those who don’t think they should hand over any more cash at all to the EFL — chose not to attend.

This was the first such meeting between clubs from the first and second tiers, and sources said it helped settle some differences and clear up some misunderstandings. More such meetings are now planned.

The dinner was arranged with the support of the Premier League, which has so far failed to get its 20 member clubs to vote on the deal, which would mean an extra £125 million per season is filtered down to the EFL.

The Premier League’s latest shareholders’ meeting on Friday ended without a vote on the New Deal though afterwards it insisted there had been progress on “plans to move towards a new financial settlement with the EFL and to agree a long-term deal for the good of English football”.
The Premier League added: “A desire to seek a resolution on remaining issues was reiterated in the meetings, including a commitment to a process and timeline, with the continuation of discussions between the leagues.”

Business men are always going to act in their own interests, and it is in Burnley's interest to get that money flowing down the leagues.

It cannot be possible that he might be doing the right thing for football and he must be working in his own evil self interest.

if the Premier League gets what it wants, in regards to financial rules, meritocratic distributions and retaining parachute payments, then it will greatly favour relegated clubs and the bigger EPL clubs. All designed to make the Premier League stronger

The more I think about it, it's probably best for Yo yo clubs like Burnley to restrict it's competitors money.

We can't compete with the big clubs, as this season has shown. So starving the competition to our route back to the honey pot, would be best for Foreign owners and ultimately our club.

It's horrible for the football pyramid though, but why should investors care?

That’s kind of what Andy Holt is writing in his long thread, i.e. everyone looks after themselves and if we get some scraps from that top table we will try to hang onto them at the expense of the others. Needs a regulator ASAP and, frankly, also needs Everton and Forest severely punished because breaking the rules makes it even more distorted and farcical.

I don't think that's specifically aimed at Burnley. They're just an illustration of a club that has spent more time in the football league than premier league but, because of the timing, will get to vote on this deal whilst other clubs in a similar position (e.g. Leicester) won't.
