Vincent Kompany...
...will now have a touchline ban in the home game against Arsenal thanks to picking up another yellow card today.
Not good enough is it?
A bit embarrassing the amount of cards he and Bellamy have gotten this season.

Re: Vincent Kompany...
Lord Dyche served a touchline ban today for the same reason. Wouldn’t call it embarrassing.

No problem with passion and frustration, especially with some of the awful decisions we have been on the wrong end of this season.

Hmm, I'd prefer more making a point in pre game / post game pressers and not getting booked on the side of the pitch when he's got a team to manage.burnleymik wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 6:40 pmNo problem with passion and frustration, especially with some of the awful decisions we have been on the wrong end of this season.

So you want him to just stand there and say nothing? I don't quite follow you here CC. It was a pivotal point in the game and he was right to make his point with passion. I have absolutely no problem with that, especially when you consider just how many times this has happened now.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 6:44 pmHmm, I'd prefer more making a point in pre game / post game pressers and not getting booked on the side of the pitch when he's got a team to manage.

Never said that. Sure there's a better way than getting carded though? Think making some proper points in a presser would be more poignant than going at the 4th official as well.burnleymik wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 6:48 pmSo you want him to just stand there and say nothing? I wish he was banned from picking the team too so we might get to see Muric.

Surely it's more understandable, and certainly not embarrassing, that Kompany reacted instinctively in the moment, rather than in the media afterwards risking a ban for such an incident alone, which is what happened to Klopp.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 6:50 pmNever said that. Re: Vincent Kompany...
Pick your poison.
I'd prefer some composure and leadership in game and to really make a point when afforded the opportunity with a well thought, articulated point.
Not going mad at the forth official - maybe a bit less of that and a bit more of actually managing the team?

They all do it. As we've just seen in the Forest v Newcastle game. I'm surprised you find it embarrassing.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 6:59 pmPick your poison.

Re: Vincent Kompany...
Can't agree with this.
We've had some shocking, shocking decisions this season. Don't think that was the deciding factor today although it happened at a time that certainly swung things, but I cannot begrudge a manager for being irate at what's been going on. Everyone always thinks they're hard done by (Bloody Klopp moaning over a throw-in 5 minutes after their foul-goal) but I'd take that level of passion over boredom or indifference.

Re: Vincent Kompany...
All he said was, “that’s a foul”. He said it twice so deserved a card for repetition.
Re: Vincent Kompany...
He’s getting frustrated because he’s out of his depth. All teams suffer from officials’ decisions. This team has had far greater problems this season.

Another week goes by, another easy ride given in the pre match press, and other display of inaptitude.
He HAS to go!
He HAS to go!
Re: Vincent Kompany...
What are we even complaining about here, does anyone even know why he was sent off, even Klopp said he didn't know why, so its amazing that people on here know.
He's shown great restraint in the press conference again as well, i think it-s an absolutely dreadful decision not to disallow the goal with VAR. Their player has virtually volleyed Ramseys shin, it's an absolutely blatant foul. If anyone ever asks me again why players go down easily, i will just show them that.

Re: Vincent Kompany...
I wouldn’t criticise him for nutting the inept officials, so I’m not going to criticise him for having a bit of a whinge.
Persisting with players who really should be dropped is a different matter, though.

If he complains to the media he gets an FA charge
If he doesn’t complain, you’ll probably moan about it
I don’t think it matters what he does but we’d rather he moaned instead of taking it with no complaints

I’m surprised so many keep mentioning Trafford, for me Amdouni has been really poor for the best part of 10-15 games now and he seems to be a certain starter regardless of performance

Re: Vincent Kompany...
I thought first half Amdouni and fofana held the ball up well and caused problems, Amdouni just plays on the edge in the wrong part of the pitch and loses the ball to much. But he’s not the one rushing out his box to claim for a ball, running into his own player and then claiming he was fouledNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 9:34 pmI’m surprised so many keep mentioning Trafford, for me Amdouni has been really poor for the best part of 10-15 games now and he seems to be a certain starter regardless of performance

A bit of an odd OP considering the same poster was bemoaning the lack of fight and old Burnley values, if you will, not so long back. Ironically our previous manager was also serving a touchline ban today. There’s a lot to criticise Kompany for this season, but showing some emotion? Justifiably too. Come on now.

17 managers in the league have all got at least 1 yellow card this season it’s the new rules

Do you find the use of the word “forgotten “ and “ill-begotten “ embarrassing as well? They all come from the Old Norse root verb “geta “ whose past participle is “geten, which leads to the English word “gotten”. The Oxford English Dictionary attests the first use of the word “gotten “ to the 4th century and the word was used by Shakespeare, Bacon and Pope as well as in The King James’ Bible.AmbleClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 10:51 pmI find using the word "gotten" to be rather embarrassing.

Use "got". Gotten is a word that seems to have slipped into general use only recently, American influences via the likes of Netflix, Disney etc. Not necessary to change a really useful word like 'got' in my humble opinion.Vino blanco wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 11:49 pmDo you find the use of the word “forgotten “ and “ill-begotten “ embarrassing as well? Re: Vincent Kompany...
You misunderstood. “Gotten” was the original past participle of the verb “get” and was in use for many centuries before being shortened to “got”. When the first English settlers opened up the colonies in America and Canada in the 17th century they were simply using the correct form of the past participle of “get” which was “gotten”, and this was still being used in Britain at the same time and well into the 18th century. This means the Americans and Canadians are actually using the original and correct past participle today. They never changed to “got” which was a much later shortening of the word introduced first in to British English in the late 18th/early 19th century. “Gotten” was still used regularly especially in Northern England as late as the 1960s. Iremember my grandma would say phrases like “wheresta gotten yon coyt fra?” (Where’ve you got that coat from?).AmbleClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 11:56 pmUse "got". It certainly accepted that got is now the regularly used past participle, but I believe it is nothing to be embarrassed about.
