JJ Watt...

Post by CoolClaret » Sun Feb 11, 2024 11:37 am

... on CBS Sport Golazo mentioning that he's over for the entirety of March and will be taking in five games or so live.

Pressure on VK? Or just discussing next seasons plans.

Wonder if there's something in the works.

Guess it's because the American football season has ended by then so he will have less commitments in the US.

Loving the way he is always banging the drum though

No pressure on VK
JJ watt is super super rich - like loose change to the rest of us being here for weeks.
Wish he would buy the club from AP who has no money and spending the clubs money to keep going .
JJW isn’t going to put millions in and never get it back and have no say in running club
Not Rocket Science

Hmm I think there is pressure - especially if he doesn't hit what the owners deem an acceptable points tally.

Just had a quick google JJ Watt is worth around 70 million US dollars ,not enough to buy Burnley FC.

Maybe he’s just coming to Burnley because the American football season finishes tonight.
He clearly enjoys it here.
He enjoys watching the games and meeting the fans.

That would seem a lot more of a logical explanation than he is coming to discuss his investment in the club or some kind of made up points target for this season.

But hey ho it’s fun to assume that everyone involved in the club is as downbeat as some of our fans

I think he is probably on point in their 3 year vision. A teams form will really have little to do with the resale value of the individual players in my opinion. 'We are going to make loads of money' was the quote in that video!

I mean wouldn't you expect a part owner to discuss / evaluate the season and performances and if any KPIs etc have been met?

That's all I was getting at, pretty routine stuff across any business, no?

It's likely a drastic misunderstanding of JJ Watt's investment to think he has any say whatsoever in Kompany's future.

Are there genuinely people that believe that an employee getting paid millions, who is performing shockingly bad after getting the owners to spend 100m on players his company has identified isn’t under pressure?

Coming to Burnley for a month to apply pressure    I’ve read it all on here now.

On another note - well done JJ. So good to have him on board and hopefully a new face and his positive attitude around the place will help.

The fact that you use terms like “KPIs” just shows how far you are away from reality.

But you crack on with your view as to why you believe he’s coming.
Maybe they are going to have a brainstorm or a thought shower with Vincent as to why have been a bit sh-it this season

What are you on about?

There's snippets all the time that come out about managers having so many games to save their job - wasn't it reported that Heckingbottom would get canned if we beat Sheff United?

I never said that is the sole reason he's coming - I'm posing a question on a messageboard to erm.. stimulate some sort of conversation?

I just noticed that it's a prolonged period to be here. I'm sure he will be involved with a lot of discussion/planning going forward.

Rich people don’t get Rich by squandering money … he will want a return in his investment otherwise he might as well just buy a season ticket .. VK might not be under immediate pressure but I be interested to see how much money he will have to spend this summer

Maybe he’s furious about all the cards Kompany is getting and feels he needs to come over and put a stop to it?

So, we get relegated which is what will probably happen if your scenario plays out, who would you prefer as manager, someone who cruised to the title a season ago in that league... Or someone who didn't?
I cannot think of anybody better to manage us in the championship.

That will be the card KPI ?

He’s on amber for that one and JJ Watt is flying over thousands of miles to ask Vincent for his action plan to get this back to green.

The way VK is blowing up on the touch line tells me he might be feeling the heat … everyone is dispensable and football is a results business with a lot at stake . hope VK can work it out what needs doing to save his job and continue with his plan … he can see what everyone else is seeing

Depends what the long term goal is, if it's to be competitive in the PL then maybe not - not to mention that squad last season had significant influence from Dyche's tenure - I think all of them will be OOC so I'm not sure who's providing that solid spine,

Anything under 25 points would be a monumental failure for me and that would carry on to the next season.

It's not like a brand new fresh start like it was in summer 2022.

You’re right, you asked if his coming over was a sign of pressure on VK.

So were you think thinking he’s decided to come over because there is a an existing pressure on VK?

That he could be he coming over to add to it? Or maybe help relieve it?

Or is he coming over to create pressure?

I’m trying to work out how you linked the news of an extended visit from a heavily invested part-owner to the possibility of pressure in VK?

That’s hilarious.
How could you tell ?
Did he slightly raise his eyebrow ?

This board never ceases to fail in adding 2 plus 2 and getting 78

It seems very likely that his role is just PR. We don't know the details so speculation is necessary if we want to discuss what he's doing, but the idea he has any sway in club decisions is a little beyond speculation and straying into fantasy.

If he was perfectly calm he would be criticised on here for not caring for the club or being too laid back.

Considering how much he clearly does care for the club and how much he wants to succeed he is very much like Dyche in how measured and calm he manages to keep himself (including last year when we were winning)

That's not quite what I was alluding to, no.

JJ's over for an extended period, not just a one off game - it's the business end of the season and come the end of March we will probably know where we're more than likely to be playing football next season and it's likely a time where plans for the summer/following season are discussed. I'm simply suggesting that JJ may be involved here.

Then I suggested if there may be some pressure on VK and posed the question to the forum.

Unfortunately KPIs is a term that is regularly used in reality, usually by tossers in the workplace who are seeking to elevate their profile by spouting a load of corporate management speak.

I know. I worked in one for 32 years and was surrounded by this nonsense on a regular basis.
But as a pleasant distraction for a few years I was also involved in the football sector of finance and not once did I here them mention KPIs !!

Not entirely sure what’s wrong with the concept of key performance indicators which I would imagine perform a pretty important role in terms of setting targets and assessing under performing areas in business. There’s a specific section dedicated to them in pretty much every major company’s financial statements.

The problem is that people know that your narrative is wanting VK sacked. It's a constant with you. So, whilst you do pose the 'pressure' question to the message board, you were provided with responses that don't agree with your thoughts. This is highlighted after only a few posts down from you're original post, when DaveTheVicar said he didn't think there was pressure on VK, to which you replied that you think there is. So, is there really any need to debate it any further, as you clearly state that you do think VK is under pressure?

No one, only those with any inside knowledge (JJ himself, AP, etc), knows the full reason as to why JJ Watt is coming over for the month, apart from everyone just speculating.

However, what's more intriguing is at the end of your original post, after you throw the 'pressure' question open to the message board, is this:

"Wonder if there's something in the works."

Hmmm, care to elaborate us with your thoughts on what you're wondering? Hoping they talk about sacking VK perhaps? 🤔

I think you're confusing me with another poster DD (CooClaret)

I've never once called for VK to be sacked, though I think he's massively underperforming and making some baffling decisions.

On the rest of your post - simply opening a question up to The Beehold End for any thoughts on the matter.

He may well be coming over to teach some of our defensive players how to man up in a crowd so we stop conceding in set plays?

Or perhaps he’s coming over to watch the games like all fans do

Apologies, I more thank likely have got you mixed up with Cooclaret.

Yes, we established you were opening up the "pressure"question to the message board (which you replied to in the negative, after DaveTheVicar, said he didn't think there was pressure on him).

However, you haven't answered the last question I posed to you from your original post, that says:- "Wonder if there's something in the works"

So what exactly is it you're wondering?

I will also add CoolClaret, that you don't exactly help yourself in being highly critical of not only VK, but young players like Trafford and Amdouni. They are not only young men, but are trying to adapt to life at a new club, a new country (in Amdouni's case) and the Premier League. Not easy by a long stretch of the imagination.

FWIW, I'm firmly behind VK and whether you believe in the plan or not, imo it does seem like we peaked at least a season too soon by winning the Championship last season. Maybe the plan was to expect to stay in the Championship and go again this season, buy the players he bought this season and develop them in the Championship. However, it hasn't worked like that, as we find ourselves in the Premier League with those same players, so now we need to play them in the division higher. If we survive, bonus. If not, we go again in the Championship next season with these same new players, but with added experience and another chance to get promoted with a view of staying in the Premier League and adapting from there.

Not entirely sure what’s wrong with the concept of key performance indicators which I would imagine perform a pretty important role in terms of setting targets and assessing under performing areas in business. There’s a specific section dedicated to them in pretty much every major company’s financial statements.
Nothing wrong with it.
But football is not a normal business.
I have never seen anything that JJ Watt has posted about Burnley which for one second would make me think he would be coming over to Burnley in March to go through KPIs with VK.
It’s pretty clear why that particular poster mentioned this - let’s not pussy foot around this by pretending he was just putting it out there to generate debate.

It's the Premier League mate.

I don't think the side is performing like it should and these are highly paid professionals. I'm critical of Trafford because I don't believe he's done anything to warrant his continued inclusion at all and I'm more than happy to be proven wrong on that.

Same with Amdouni - the 15 minute man. Again, these aren't plucky youngsters on a Cup run - they're highly paid professionals and I just don't think it's good enough.

Nobody has a clue why hes here for a month. The most likely reason is that he wants to spend a longer time here and get more ingrained within the club rather than just making passing visits. Simple things like attending meetings in person, getting to know staff in and around the club etc.
There's also probably an important meeting that hes tieing it in with. Maybe potential budgets for next season being finalised etc.
All speculation though.
