Player Injury Information
Player Injury Information
Why is VK reluctant to give the press and fans clear information and updates on player injuries and how they are progressing all we get are Fosters as an injury no explanation has to what type of injury it is, Beyer- it’s going to take longer than estimated, Charlie Taylor how near is he to returning—no information etc etc. I now live in the S/West and have been a Claret for over 50yrs but i find injury updates hard to get, when I watch a VK interviews he seems reluctant to give clear answers when questioned the lack of transparency is frustrating. Am I the only one who thinks this?

Re: Player Injury Information
We’ve been through all this before
Maybe, Vinny has been told not to give out any details
If you rang in sick, would you want your boss telling the customers what was wrong with you?

Think we’ve gone from too much info to not enough ,surely saying player A had a muscle strain,or player B has had a knock on the ankle isn’t revealing too much it’s not as though they say player C as an STD.

It’s very strange how reluctant we are to give out info.
I can fully understand him not mentioning Foster being injured before Liverpool and would expect that but to be so reluctant to give out any info after the game I find really strange.

Re: Player Injury Information
I agree with medical records not being revealed, without players consent, but if they would tell us the estimated return to first team availabilty it would put a lot of minds at rest.
Re: Player Injury Information
I presume its so the opposition has difficulty working out who's going to be fit to play the following week. Im guessing Aesenal are having to prepare to face Foster next week as they wont know the severity of the injury.

Perhaps an update when players are back in training, but that should suffice.

The odd thing is that pretty much all other clubs are open about it, e.g. Haaland’s stress fracture.

Really? ‘I was going to go on the Arsenal game on Saturday but I don’t think I’ll bother now because the club haven’t announced whether Foster will be fit or not’. Fit, in contention or unavailable is really all we need to know - anything else is just being nosy.gtclaret wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 6:35 amThe club is not allowed to give any medical information without the players consent. However we are paying customers therefore are entitled to know the quality of the product we are paying to watch. So it is important to the if and when a player will be available.

Fit, in contention or unavailable is all i'd need, but it doesn't feel like we even get that these days. "Back on the grass" is starting to feel like a detailed medical report by comparison!

We don't really need to know though do we. I'd rather keep the opposition manager unsure of our team, although it probably doesn't make much difference atm.

Should we all hang off buying season tickets then ? How are we to know who will even be at the club next season but we will be renewing before this season ends.

I understand not giving the information out beforehand, but once it's known that a player is injured, there's no harm stating the injury, and how long they will be out for.

I’m more bothered about the amount of injuries our players seem to pick up.

At least then you knew they were injured and you wouldn't be seeing them anytime soon. At present players you're expecting to play or at least feature from the bench just disappear from the matchday squad without warning.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 9:39 amBut wasn’t ’back on the grass’ just as unhelpful and misleading? An example is Obafemi- we knew he was injured in pre-season, he came back for the Sheffield United game, then the next we heard of him he was going on loan to Millwall. No idea if he was injured or just out of favour in the interim.
Very good point about the injuries picked up in training (assuming that's what's happening!)

Re: Player Injury Information
I can see why Newcastle might not want to say too much about Nick Pope's current shoulder injury, as he had previously been out for almost a season following a shoulder operation, and that could all aversely affect his future value. I can see why Burnley FC were furious when Steve Bruce said Charlie Austin's knee was a mess, which showed up with his medical at Hull. There are simply times when you just need as a club to remain quiet.
However being so vague or non communicative about more routine injuries is really hacking fans off. We absolutely understood the almost silence when Foster was struggling with his mental issues. However Beyer got a knock almost several months ago, was " almost ready " for a game in January. Does anyone know the issue. Delcroix was not available after the Spurs cup game, and no one knew why after he had played so well, and there have been countless others. In my personal opinion I feel this is VK being very cagey and having the upper hand. He does however need to appreciate the importance of paying fans, and the importance of communication re availability. He is giving fans right now another reason for disliking him. We don't get this caginess from Klopp, Pep, and just about all the other PL managers .

Is it really pretty obvious ?
There’s a hell of a lot of breaches in most of the other managers press conferences then.
There will be reasons for being more guarded about this information. In the odd case it may well be about data protection and player consent but generally I think it’s just a change in approach for whatever reason VK and his team have.
Compare this to clubs like City and Liverpool where Pep and Klopp will often give a player by player update on those players out injured. I think with the big clubs in particular you would struggle to get away with what we are doing now. Manchester Evening News have almost a daily online feed on injury updates on United and City players

What does it really matter what type of injury it is? Makes no difference to us other than knowing estimated time frame, some don’t want to believe anything from the club or manager. To busy correcting the team tactics & scouting the hidden gems.

If you buy a match ticket you are entitled to entry to Turf Moor for that match. If you buy a season ticket (for this season) you’re entitled to get into Turf Moor 19 times. Nothing else.
We had years of Dyche batting off injury enquiries with ‘touch and go’ and it was seen as a running gag. Kompany does the same and it’s another stick to beat the new regime with. Get over yourselves lads, it’s getting dull.

Yes, I agree with this. If a paying customer comes into your place of work only to find that the employee they need/want to see is off work sick, does this give the customer the right to know exactly when they will return or what the illness is? Clearly not!Enola Gay wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 3:24 pmSorry but this is rubbish.

Re: Player Injury Information
In the NFL, teams have to publicly report all injuries. Largely due to the impact it can have on betting markets I believe. Although the NFL will say it’s so teams are all in the same boat in terms of strategy.
It’s incredibly strict though.
“In accordance with the Personnel (Injury) Report Policy, each club is required to file a Practice Report with the NFL Communications department by 4:00 p.m., New York time, (or as soon as possible after the completion of practice) every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for a regular season Monday game; Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for a Thursday game; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for a Friday game; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for a Saturday game; and Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for a Sunday game.
Each club must also file a weekly regular season Game Status Report with the NFL Communications department by 4:00 p.m., New York time (or as soon as possible after the completion of practice) on Wednesday for a Thursday game, Thursday for a Friday or Saturday game, Friday for a Sunday game, and Saturday for a Monday game. An update must be reported if there is any change in a player's condition after the initial Game Status Report is filed.“
I remember the falcons were punished earlier in the season -
“The NFL has fined the Falcons and head coach Arthur Smith for violating the league's injury reporting policy in Week Seven, when Bijan Robinson's illness was not properly disclosed. The league fined the Falcons as a team $75,000 and Smith individually $25,000”.

We are told a player is injured and then, when he's fit, he returns to the squad.
In the meantime, VK and the other players work around it.
It's not that difficult to comprehend.

The poor feedback on injuries, illogical team selections, puzzling substitutions and transfer strategies has all left me cold this season. I've got to the point where this regular confusion seems to take some of the passion I used to feel from a fans association with the club has been downgraded. Maybe just me.
