Why's my milk not going off?
In my fridge at work, I have a half-used 2-pint bottle of Daily Manor semi-skimmed milk. Its 'best before' date is 06 FEB. It's been opened before that date but used only to drop milk into tea, and it lived entirely in the fridge... and it's still fine - nine days later.
My motto in life is, 'If in doubt, use your snout' - much to the disgust of many people who refuse even to entertain consuming something past its Best Before date, but I do worry, what preservatives are being used to keep this milk going? Or do I have a magic fridge? Is it because I'm opening it for just a few moments and keeping it cool? Will it just suddenly 'turn' in an instant?

I understand these differences between Sell By, Best Before and Use By, but usually with milk, you can smell it going off certainly after 4 days at least

Lidl semi skimmed milk is water with a bit of pva glue for colouring, so it'd be fine in another 100 years.

nope, no chance. not over something that costs a few pence.
Re: Why's my milk not going off?
Bit harsh. He wouldn’t have got anywhere near the bottle.
Re: Why's my milk not going off?
Milk lasts for ages in a fridge and then....one day.
Time to renew.

Reading some of the comments on the Trafford thread everything would have turned sour very quickly, so he cannot be responsible for keeping milk fresh.
Probably down to VK, he likes to put out a fresh team every match day.

Muric would have saved the milk
Re: Why's my milk not going off?
Dropped his milk getting it off the shelf
Re: Why's my milk not going off?
In the old days when fresh milk was delivered to your doorstep direct from the farm you were lucky if it lasted until supper. You had to be up early as well to take it inside before the blue tits got the cream off the top. Good old days eh

Re: Why's my milk not going off?
I believe it's the advent of 5G radio waves.... it eliminates semi skimmed milk bacteria, meaning your milk will never go off.
Or they fry your brain, so you can't smell off milk any more.... maybe that's the situation.

Re: Why's my milk not going off?
The stuff that was originally added to make long life milk, is now added in smaller doses to ordinary milk, which is why it lasts longer.
As for going off, there is little danger in drinking sour milk. You can buy it off the shelf. And even if drinking sour milk is in some way bad for your particular stomach, it's still possible (given a normal sense of smell and taste) to know when it's gone off. It loses its taste long before it becomes dangerous.

Re: Why's my milk not going off?
I've looked at the label again. It says its Homogenised Milk
Advantages of Homogenising Milk
Homogenising milk makes it possible for milk to stay longer while still fresh.
Homogenised milk has fat cells of uniform size; therefore, the milk can stay fresh for a longer period compared to the milk you receive directly after milking your cows. Homogenising milk involves the removal of the cream that appears as a layer at the top of the milk, which makes the milk lose its freshness very fast.
This milk won't die.

Why the hell are we talking about milk? Is this the calm before the storm that will erupt on this board around 1515 on Saturday ,you know milk always goes off when it thunders.
Re: Why's my milk not going off?
I was also brought up on a dairy farm when they used to whitewash over the cow muck halfway up the walls when the milk marketing board inspector was due.A bit of cow muck never killed anybody.

Re: Why's my milk not going off?
I think DD is right, some of these skimmed/semi-skimmed milks are hardly milk at all, just coloured water.
That's why they never go off.

Re: Why's my milk not going off?
Exactly that!
By 1515 Saturday Trafford will have made the first of two penalty saves, while Amdouni will have scored the first of his four goals of the afternoon as we go on to beat Arsenal 6 - 0. This forum will be going mental with everyone raving about how good the Board/Coaching Staff are and assuring us that their snide comments about the players were in fact typos/misconstrued and that they've known all along that we were winners.

He would have distributed it immediately, and with pinpoint accuracy.

Can you recycle waxed milk cartons?

Don't worry about it. I don't fret over words on a message board.

I won’t be taking any notice of keyboard jockeys at 15:15 on Saturday as I will be sat in my seat on the Turf.

Re: Why's my milk not going off?
I've had a little time to think it over.......
Funny how quick the milk doesn't turn sour, isn't it, isn't it?
Your face has been looking like that for hours, hasn't it, hasn't it?
Promises, promises turn to dust
Wedding bells just turn to rust

Yes, I'm deadly serious about suggesting someone is not living life to the full because they choose not to consume out-of-date food. Or, I might being making a playful, yet preposterous contribution to a mundane topic
This comment may also be sarcasm.
