Brownhill

Taken a long time for a lot on this board
to realise that Brownhill is at best a poor
championship player.

He’s a good championship player. A very good one even.

He’s just not good enough for this level.

The puzzle is why is he still taking set pieces?

Effing pointless.

It is very informative that Brownhill is a really good Championship player either playing behind the striker or as a proper central midfielder and yet is nowhere near good enough for the Premier League anywhere on the field.

The side improved immediately he came back into it and he was one of the best midfield players in the Championship.

I think he's a PL squad player and by all accounts he would be snapped up if he becomes available.

But he's not going to thrive in a 4-4-2 with Sander Berge nor is Cullen because they are up against some of the best players in the world.

He's an extremely good championship player. Unfortunately, he's like a good number of players who are not and never will be that huge level above which is the PL.

Love Brownhill as a player but I feel he suffers as a result of carrying the captains armband. He needs releasing from that responsibility but I’m not sure who would be suited to take it.

I like Browny and I think he gives his all. I’ll be glad to see him lining up for us next season in the Championship.

But in basic terms I think the biggest reason we went down the season before last, and will repeat that feat this year, is our failure to replace an £8m midfielder with someone better.

When you consider our central midfield two cost £20m vs Arsenals three £207m (Rice £100m, Odegaard £30m, Havertz £67m) it’s easy to understand why they brushed us aside.

He’s lacking in too many areas at this level. He’s not good enough on the ball and all too often chasing shadows, or the ball, when out of possession.

I can only judge based on what I see from the stands, in terms of leadership. I just don’t see a player a leading by example on the pitch in terms of his own performance. Nor do I see a player that’s looks particularly motivational, cajoling his teammates, lifting the younger players or dragging a performance / demanding more from everyone when things aren’t going to plan.

Leadership comes in many forms, so I may be doing him a disservice, but his meek claps and a few words as we were about to restart after another goal against, looked insipid at best.

This team needs a proper leader and one that stays well away from set pieces if he’s remotely as bad as Brownhill is at them!

A solid championship midfielder, a million miles off being a half decent premier league midfielder, sadly.

They are an incredible team, and midfield, however other teams have recently found a way to either beat them or contain them to a marginal defeat. WHU, Luton, Newcastle , Villa have all given them a hell of a game recently. I think Luton lost in the last minute of injury time. Yes Arsenal are formiddable but lets not hide behind a gutless and shocking performance by our guys.

He needs to play within a solid structure, otherwisr he isnt good enough, similar to Dean Marney.
However his personality is vital, he will.maintain good habits and discipline on the training ground and that is as valuable as anything.

I do worry some of our fans just don’t understand football at all when I read things like “Brownhill is a poor championship player at best”.

They obviously have no clue what they’re talking about.

True enough. You've clearly forgotten last season when he proved himself to be a very good championship player. Those of us with longer memories, memories that go back a full season or more, haven't yet "realised" what you have "realised".

informative, loads of fat slobs who never kicked a ball deciding the barriers between championship and premier league levels for our player.

Right, so we ignore the more recent 6 0 battering at home for that? Slightly misleading.
Thats like saying we comfortably beat Fulham 2 0 and completely ignoring the 2 2 last week
