If we'd signed no-one else?
Would we have fewer points?
At a guess, we could have lined up on the opening day with:
Muric
Al-Dakhil Beyer Ekdal
Roberts Cullen Cork Brownhill Taylor
Foster Rodriguez
The likes of Benson, Zaroury and JBG on the bench.
With the amount of money we've wasted to be sat on just 13 points, I honestly think that team would be no worse off.
Or is that just my cynicism?

Could well have seen some 7-0 and more scorelines, but I see why you are asking

If we'd have signed nobody else our injuries would have been even more of a problem.

I get that, but we obviously wouldn't have let the players go out on loan that we did.
I'm not suggesting for a minute that squad would be good enough, but fewer than a paltry 13 points?

We can’t be much worse off.
I think we’d have conceded a lot more goals and I do t think we’d be any better off.
One things for sure - the hate Pace would be getting for not investing would be absolutely next level on here.

Agreed, and people would also say we needed to spend around 100 million strengthening the squad and we'd be just fine!

I think the simple answer is we're probably getting relegated with the current squad and would've done without the signings.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 10:11 amI get that, but we obviously wouldn't have let the players go out on loan that we did.

Personally, I feel the biggest mistake was not allowing the lads who brought us up to start and then let the competition for places begin. He should have given them a chance to carry on with what they did so brilliantly last season. Obviously with having to address the holes left by loanees leaving and injuries.

Spot on, and we’d all be saying that VK has such a good track record signing players that took us up last time that if he were given £100m he’d have taken us to Europe.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 10:16 amAgreed, and people would also say we needed to spend around 100 million strengthening the squad and we'd be just fine!
Crazy some of these debates happen.

Absolutely. There were plenty on here already predicting a top ten finish at the end of last season!

No one thought he'd whiff £100m in positions that we didn't need, that's the difference.

At least we would have gone down with a ton on cash

Re: If we'd signed no-one else?
I think I’m right when I say that only Brownhill yesterday was a player who was in our regular starting eleven that won the Championship in such glorious fashion last season. How on Earth can that have happened? Who, in their right mind, thought it was a good idea to spend a so-called £100 million on untried, inexperienced players to compete in the PL, replacing what on paper was a bloody good team? I really am at a total loss to understand this: last season I looked forward so much to every match so I could watch my new heroes play and entertain me...now I am simply starting to feel sorry for these young lads who are wearing the claret shirt, it’s not really there fault they have been selected to match up every week against bigger, more athletic PL professionals. Our summer recruitment and the need to try and fit these players into some kind of new system has been an unmitigated disaster. I am also sure that Vincent is also feeling this and hurting, he an intelligent and good man who has always been a winnner in football. I just hope he can make the right changes to the team so that we can finish of the season with some pride and build for the next.
