As much as I’m fed up with it, I am now planning to go to Chelsea with my Dad. My Dad is 75 and I’m 50 and we were talking earlier and saying that we missed the day out together. It’s far more important than the result so I get your comment on Palace. The last game was Millwall last season so fingers crossed we can get a ticket!

Had anybody actually asked VK why so many players of last season are being left out completely?

Don't think you'll struggle getting any away tickets now. Easter weekend as well so likely to be a nightmare getting down on the train.

He said a couple of weeks ago about Benson that there is no shame in struggling in your first season in the Prem. of Zaroury he said earlier in the season that we now have players as good as him. I’m not sure anyone has asked about Muric.

Yes, as CT says, some mystifying stuff gone on this season.
All culminating in the garbage we were served yesterday .

In over 50 years of being a Claret yesterday was the most despondent I have been attending a gameI left the ground as the 5th goal went in something I very rarely do but I wasn't getting wet throughto watch anymore also I never watch highlights when we get beat but did this morning and saw we were far worse than I thought watching it live.Over the years I have witnessed many drubbings and embarrassing performances 6-0 at home to Hereford 5-0 down the road countless ones to City 5-2 home to Reading 5-1 at home to Wolves I could go on and on but I honestly feel yesterday tops them all.But by next weekend all will be forgot and I will be back hoping for a much better performance and dare I say a win

I think when CT writes a report like that it absolutely confirms how bad the season has gone, and there is nothing in the narrative that can be challenged or disputed

Square pegs in round holes sums us up, even the square pegs in square holes are a terrible fit. Kompany has gone from hero to zero, appalling management. If he doesn't get it right next seasonit will change from appalling management to manager

Yes a very good report on a horror showing, it couldn't have been easy to write.

We just turn up, watch the goals go in and now just shrug our shoulders. A complete different team, no passion and less belief. I have honestly no idea what this season in the Premier league has been all about.

I said to jdrobbo yesterday that I didn’t have a clue what to write. His advice was to get down just how I feel which I’ve tried to do. I don’t know what it’s been about either other than wasteful.

Good report as ever Tony - particularly nodded at not feeling anything when the goal went in. I’d have absolutely left early yesterday but for being in the corporates. Dreadful day, dreadful weather.

Things will get better.

As usual CT a fair and honest report.
After the highs of last season, I struggle to comprehend how the current management has managed to so completely trash that legacy. The disconnect between the fans and the team / club, is so dispiriting. What has happened to our club?

The level of change from last season is truly baffling, and whilst I’m still (just about!) willing to give VK the benefit of the doubt, I think he owes the fans an explanation (or maybe an apology…)

So, only Brownhill started from last seasons team but 8 out of the 9 subs did. Work that one out if you can.

But according to the manager, they've either been given a fair chance or we have players as good now!

Okay then, Vinny! 😳

Just a minute or two before we entered the ground, we said hello to Willie Irvine and of course to CTID, who was doing everything he could to give his dad a good day out at the football.

When people ask why we keep going to the Turf, just remember that… It gets under your skin and for many, it’s in your blood. You just can’t stay away.

For many, there are many other important things in our lives….family and friends being an obvious few…But seeing your team play, whenever you can, remains very important to many. Sending very best wishes to Willie, Darren and family 👍🏻

Just read the report having returned home from attending a gig in Manchester. It sums up, I think, how many of us are feeling at the moment. Yesterday was only the second time in over 60 years that I have left a home game before the final whistle. The last time was the Celtic game where I genuinely feared for my life. As bad as we have been, and as crazy as it sounds, if we get results from our next 4 games we are right back in the mix. It's the hope that kills you! UTC!!

Decent report and telling how it is , as i watch from a far i can only think that something is not right at our club as the players from last Season aren't given a chance for all the effort they put in to getting us promoted, which is a shame..UTC..

Good summary Tony on a match that can't have been easy to report on - from our point of view!

I think everyone is of the same opinion now - why dismantle a side flying with confidence and replace them with players that, on the whole, are no better? I just don't get it

One thing that isnt really commented on is the fans.

The only time i can really remember the fanbase turning was Laws. Relegations with Dyche, were met with an understanding fanbase. Hardly any dissent.

This season is remarkable how little stick the team has had.

Other fanbases would be rioting now.

VK, compared to Harry Potts, is getting an easy time!

Was in a restaurant last week in Tenerife and Willie’s son Jonathan was there ,our son used to play football with him ,was asking his his dad was ,said he was struggling but still seemed to enjoy going on the Turf.

Good report CT. I’m pleased to see that despite the woeful football on display, going to the football still serves as an important social event for you and many others which is what it’s all about ultimately.

The reference to Brownhill being the only player from last season who started is at the root of the problem for me. It takes time to build a team and a rapport with the fans and that has not been possible. Of course if the team had been winning the the feeling would be different but given that it was likely to be a season of struggle it would have been much easier to get behind last year’s squad with a few experienced additions.
I was reassured to read about the lack of feeling when the first goal went in - I thought it was just me!

I know in many ways we have little choice but to stick with Kompany. but I want him gone. He does not deserve to be here. That he has completely drained the huge reservoir of goodwill he accumulated last season is scarcely believable, Yet he has been that bad. On the law of averages I think even a decent League 1 team would have got more than two points from teams other than Luton, Sheff U and Fulham

Totally agree with CT report and your reply, basically what Luton have done, and its working well for them.

It would be great to know if it is all down to kompany ditching the players that got us up and if he had a say in bringing in all these new players on the basis he thinks they are better, or is it (as suggested on here) that his hands are tied in terms of the model of the club now, in that he's had to play these young players to try to get the return on investment in summer.

I suspect it's purely Kompany s decision on who to play which makes it even more baffling. How can he say Benson isn't good enough for prem when he's barely played, yet tresor and co got loads more match time to try to up their game.

I accepted relegation months ago, but it will surely be remembered for what could have been after the buzz of last season. Why start again with a team that did so bloody well. How could he not see what the experience of players like Barnes and Taylor did for the team?

And finally if there was a chance that Tella could be signed then it is unforgivable that we let him slip through the net.

The social aspect of it is so important. I was thinking last night about the 2020/21 season we played behind closed doors and how it lacked so much because we couldn’t be there. I was fortunate to be able to go to the Liverpool game at the end of the season and I found it so emotional, seeing good friends again for the first time in over a year and sitting with my brother who I’d also hardly seen in that time.

Brilliant report! Sums up my feelings, especially 2 points made. Firstly, the feeling of apathy towards it all now. Secondly, the decision to throw a load of money at essentially dismantling an excellent team.

Good report CT, you told it exactly as it was. To me there is just no identity anymore, previous years under Dyche etc you felt attached somehow to the players, I feel we’ve lost that. Our coats are just about dried out now. It was my first game for sometime since the knee op so I could only wear track suit bottoms, boy do they absorb water, it was horribly uncomfortable in the car coming back.

Had anybody actually asked VK why so many players of last season are being left out completely?
I saw a bbc interview with him(possibly for radio lancs), and he was asked about Benson, with the journalist quoting fans’ frustration, and VK said he didn’t want to talk about individuals, only the group as a collective.

After that performance, I am assuming that the manager was misquoted when he said that the defeat to City on the opening night was the worst we'd be all season?

🤔

When you leave Martin Odegaard with acres of space around your box there will only be one outcome.

Surely the coaching staff identified him as being their main threat (admittedly there are a number of others) and so detailed one of our midfielders to ensure they got in his face ? Criminal that first goal.

What coaching staff, you mean the ones that coached us how to set a wall up against City from which they promptly scored?

Honest report Tony.
I too walked out early for the first time after the 5th goal.
I watched Luton v Man U on TV yesterday. I was struck by the 100% commitment by the Luton players in closing down Man U.
We seem to have completely lost that commitment and that is what hurts.
If we go down and Luton stay up, that, I would say is the difference.

The same ones who thought you could be offside from a throw in, as expertly demonstrated on the fifth goal.

Yes Luton giving it a good go - like we used to do.
