Parking on outskirts of London - tube station

Post by GetIntoEm » Sun Feb 18, 2024 4:27 pm

Anyone recommend somewhere to part outside London. We are staying at Tower Bridge next weekend but would like to dump the car Friday rather than driving in.

People have recommended Brent cross or Finchley but just wondered if anyone else had any opinion?

We rent out our driveway on an online site.. we’re in Windsor and have had a few people park for a few days and get the train in. I bet there’s loads within walking distance of a tube. If you Google park on my drive there’ll be loads. Most areas round here are restricted parking on the streets.

Watford Junction on Tube and also (mainline into Euston) not sure how much parking charges are for long term/weekend stay but have used it for London Footy matches

Used to always park at Stanmore, right at the bottom of the M1.
Then a trip down the Jubilee line.

You could try Mill Hill Broadway, a few minutes by train from St Pancras International. 5 minutes off the A1 just south of M25 J 23. Blue Badge Holders can park for free at given times. Local parking via Just Park App. Check for ULEZ.

I think Longsidebovril’s parking on the drive suggestion could be best? Alternatively put a shout out to fellow clarets on here who live in North London and have got room on their drive.

When I was working , 4 years ago,and going to London, I regularly drove to Hillingdon on the Piccadily and Metropolitan line, and never failed to get a spot in their cark park. In those days it was £5 for all day. If you get the Metropolitan , there is a very fast version that will take you to the Baker Street or Kings Cross tubes, from where you can travel anywhere else. Hillingdon is on Western Avenue, the old A40 that leads to the M40/M25s

When I went to the play-offs v Sheff Utd I used Stanmore tube and parked in a side street, then getting a tube to Webley, but you can obviously go south into London

Edgware is just off the Motorway, has a large park and ride car park next to the Tube/Bus station and the Northern Line runs from there right through the centre of London all the way to Battersea Power Station.

I did the exact same trip September 2022.

Hayes and Harlington just off the M4, on the Elizabeth line and has a car park. It’s quite residential with Just Park app for parking on drives close by.

We tend to use Hillingdon when using the M40 or Stanmore if going down the M1. Never seen Hillingdon anywhere near full but don’t know how much it costs on a weekday.

I have used Gerrard's Cross a few times in the past. There are regular trains into Marylebone and Baker Street tube station is just around the corner from Marylebone station.
Trains usually take about 25-30 minutes into London from Gerrard's Cross.
The big advantages for me are that I find the M40 a much more pleasant drive than the M1 and Gerrard's Cross is the last junction before the M25.
Depending on what time you are travelling on Friday I can almost guarantee that the M1 and M25 will be horrendous. It is also a big car park at the station.
Good luck whatever you decide.
I still haven't decided whether to drive down on Saturday morning or jump on the train.

I use the M40 and park on the NCP at Richmond Station.

I’ve stayed near Tower Bridge recently and paid for a garage nearby. I’ll try and find it. Wasn’t expensive

Looks like that place is booked, but go on the JustPark app and you’ll find loads of places between £7 and £20 for 24 hours.

A decent alternative to the tube is the Thames link train. I usually park at St Albans and get the train in from there. 25 minutes to St Pancras, 35 to London Bridge. 3 or 4 trains an hour to go for and a decent car park too.

I’m diving down to palace for the game, usually park somewhere on the outskirts and use tube etc to get to grounds in London. Any suggestions where might be best to park for ease of getting to and from Selhurst park?

Be aware of ULEZ, especially if your vehicle has diesel engine. All the London boroughs are inside ULEZ. You can check your vehicle on-line. Some of the parking recommendations on this thread, NCP Richmond, for example, are inside the ULEZ area. Fines for not paying promptly are expensive.

I find yourparkingspace decent parking app.

See you at the game. Let's get 3 points at Palace, like we did a few seasons back, March 2017, was it?

i've decided to drive all the way in to tower bridge, i've found a park on my drive thing. being there all weekend it works out cheaper than parking and getting the train in.

car is a brand new petrol so no ULEZ, and will skirt round the congestion zone hopefully.

This, though I'm not sure you can park for free on the street anywhere there whereas if you go to Canons Park, one stop down the Jubilee Line, Ive found that you can park on the residential streets round the back of the parade of shops which the tube station is at one end of.

On a different note. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel for the West Ham game. Taking the misses into London on Friday and Saturday but I'm also taking her on her first away game on Sunday. Need a very nice hotel near West Ham Stadium for Sunday night. 5 star if possible with with a superb restaurant (Michelin). She deserves it for putting up with me.

There is a Premier Inn at Westfield, Stratford which I've used a few times which is very handy.

The Renaissance at St Pancras is a short journey on the high speed line from Stratford.
