Half time entertainment v Arsenal
Apologies if this has been covered already. I was absolutely fuming on Saturday by the performance but I think I was more angry at the half time entertainment. The “drop it like it’s hot” fiasco was so embarrassing. First the added penalty taking (Bella? Bee had no chance). Secondly the wet penny drop board thingy - only one prize mentioned and all contestants won said signed shirt by pushing penny down into slot 6. Then of course we couldn’t even see all of that due to useless hand held camera work. Finally to really finish it off, we had a draw for two raffle prizes with no announcement of the prize. You couldn’t have made it worse if you had tried. I bet the Arsenal fans were really impressed! I certainly wasn’t. Rant over.

I think the concept itself is OK (aside from the new added 'jeopardy' of beating Bella Bee from the penalty spot. But the execution is atrocious.
It also baffles me why we don't have the ex-player interview on the big screen. Clearly there was a camera person there filming the coin drop nonsense (albeit from about three-and-a-half miles away) so why not have the interview up on the big screen?

I am not beating the club with a stick. Just commenting (it’s an opinions board isn’t it?) on what I believed was totally amateur. It needs improving.

And the poor kids taking pens to the right of the goal as far as I know didn't even get a shout-out as to who they were, their 5 mins of fame on the pitch and they just walked off with no applause. How do they get it so wrong! And while I'm complaining the tannoy is far too loud and they should have turned Andy Cooke to face the camera.

Whilst it’s obviously not important, it is amateur at best and doesn’t reflect our Premier League status.

Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
I need to pick you up on your non league aside CT.
Most non league clubs don’t have naff half time entertainment, they have a half time draw plus drinks and food at non extortionate prices often served by local volunteers. You can also buy a beer in a cosy friendly club bar with teles on to watch the half time scores. If you so wish you can sup your pint outside wherever you want as well as walk round the entire perimeter of the pitch to get your steps in.

Nothing will be as amateur hour as Wrexham away circa 2000 when they held a pretend wedding for their two robin mascots.

Leave non league alone! The subs just go out and have a respectable kick about while everyone else goes into the clubhouse for a pint and a pie!

For me the bloke shouting down the microphone needs to turn it down a couple of notches, I couldn't hear my mate complaining about how bad the team was.

That’s true, but is discussed extensively on here.
I’m surprised more wasn’t made about the Snoop Dogg track which originally accompanied this game which contains liberal use of the word ni**er.

Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
They did have it on both big screens. However, to add to the already embarrassing debacle, the fell filming it remained in position in front of the JHL, towards the corner flag so we were treated to the back of Andy Cooke’s head. Clearly incapable of moving to an angle whereby we may actually get to see his face - it’s pathetic. It really is. It couldn’t be that dire if they actually tried to make it that bad!!!Ightenhill_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 12:38 pmI think the concept itself is OK (aside from the new added 'jeopardy' of beating Bella Bee from the penalty spot. I would have made the players do it as a punishment for the first half display !

Tony's thoughts on this are just what I was saying at half time. It's non-league standard.

It was cringeworthy. Totally amateur and badly thought out. I said to the guy in front of me I didn't know which was worse the first half or the half time entertainment. He said well we've got the second half yet as well. Oh what little did we know.....
Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
Despite the deafening announcer, we couldn't hear a word Andy Cooke was saying.

Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
I've said before, but I really don't see any need for "half time entertainment". The vast majority of people are under the concourse getting drinks, food or the loo. It's so packed you can barely move down there. Those left in the stands are almost all checking their phones or discussing the footy with those close by. It's a daft concept to believe we need entertaining at half time. (Imo)

I'm not familiar with that track, but given how bad the tannoy is, I doubt anyone else who doesn't know it would realise what the lyrics are.
Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
That half time entertainment is an amalgam of toe curling Partridge and vintage Phoenix Nights, an absolute parody of itself.
I had a guffaw when the disc thing wouldn't move cos the board was wet.
Dark cloud - I would check my phone if I could get a signal in the BL.
Surely things can only get better from here on and off the pitch.

It needs scrapping. Makes me wonder whose idea it was and why they are still employed. What standard of 'entertainment' were the ones that were rejected?
Was on the 'ground tour' last week and throughout It the message being conveyed was one of 'the whole match day experience'. Call me old-fashioned but that used to be the minutes either side of half time. Cringeworthy and crass.

Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
What about the terrible advert with Trafford and a couple of others. Its getting towards the chicken one.
Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
We all said around where we sit that it was dreadful, why bother. Why not have a 5 aside in the centre of the pitch by school children, local clubs etc, at least then both sets of supporters have a good view and can enjoy it.

Agreed Beddie. Think about what it means to the kids to get to play on the Turf. Make that the focus of the half time entertainment.

I found it hilarious it was so bad, and it’s very lower league to begin with.
They all just slid their coins down, picked 6 and got £150 or something like that.

Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
All the local clubs have had a go at playing on the pitch, but the price will have gone up and up.
The clubs will find it hard to sell the package to parents now, once they have been on once already.
Especially if they're already Season Ticket holders.
Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
I don't think it's meant to be taken too seriously, hence grown men taking pens against a mascot, and the end result being fixed....we laughed, and importantly the kids loved it and wanted to be entered for the next one.
Does any club have serious halftime entertainment?, most I've seen are just for a laugh and not to be taken too serious

He said he had been really really excited to sign for Burnley because it was a big club with a great tradition with a great bunch of lads and they were the best days of his career…….and I couldn’t hear him either because I was down on the concourse.
Oh, and the interviewer asked him which, of all his goals, was his favourite.

Needed a new PA system since this one was first installed.
Awful sound quality and to mask that they turn the volume right up. Can barely hear yourself think let alone the person next to you.

Presume it's just a chance to bring in a few quid from 'Heatable' for having their name plastered across the ground
Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
I remember many years ago being at Bradford and they drew tickets out from either set of fans. They then had a penalty shoot out against the second keepers that day. Sure ours was Chris Pearce but may be wrong, it's a long time ago. Bet they wouldn't allow that now, it was great.

A group of us like to have a half time chat and a coffee but we find it impossible with Mr Shouty.
And if he tells me one more time to "Make some noise" I would quite happily stick his microphone where the sun don't shine

A few years ago, my Leeds supporting mate went to Bradford City v Shrewsbury.1882 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 3:10 pmI remember many years ago being at Bradford and they drew tickets out from either set of fans. They had a half-time penalty shootout in front of the Kop at Valley Parade, one home fan and one away fan.
One of my other mates was the announcer at Bradford City at the time and he picked the fans from both sides. Not sure how, but he spotted my mate in the away end, so picked him.
He strode up, slotted his penalty home and gave the Leeds salute to the Bradford fans, before being quickly ejected.

Re: Half time entertainment v Arsenal
The funniest HT entertainment I’ve ever witnessed was away at QPR a good few years back. Blokes were made dizzy by running repeatedly around a corner flag planted in the centre spot before setting off towards goal with a ball at their feet and attempting to score past a keeper. The dizziness made them run/fall over like comedy drunks….. top notch fun for all the family.

I noticed in the Longside quite a few people had hands covering their ears, I was one of them, it forced me to move to the concourse to get out of earshot.
And no I didn’t buy anything.
