Post by ClaretTony » Tue Feb 20, 2024 11:19 am

Former German international full back Andreas Brehme has died suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac arrest at the age of 63.

Scored the winner from the spot in the 1990 World Cup final and scored the goal in the 1-1 draw v England in the semi final.

Very sad and so young. He was a brilliant full back for Germany. RIP Andreas.

Sad news. When in the schoolyard we used to choose who we wanted to be between him, Lothar Matthaus and Jurgen Klinsmann - 3 outstanding players for West Germany at the 1990 World Cup.

Scored the winner in the 1990 World Cup Final with a penalty taken with his right foot when he was left-footed. Puts a lot of the many one-footed left-backs of today to shame.

An incredibly talented footballer whose name has often gone under the radar. Germany really have had so many gifted players in their ranks over the years. No wonder their tournament record has been so impressive. RIP Andreas Brehme.

And we can add players like Litbarski & Völler to that team too. Not too often full backs stand out but Brehme very definitely did.

63 is no age. Decent player on his day this lad. RIP

At the weekends game between RB Leipzig and BMG, there were TWO cardiac arrest deaths in the crowd. 🤔🤔 obviously that was all over the news…

And just hearing of the young strictly professional also collapsing and dying this week.

Excess deaths up massively since 2021.

Far too many “sudden deaths” happening recently. Wonder what could be causing it? 🤔🤔🤔

When AC Milan had the Dutch trio of Gullit, Van Basten and Riijkaard, their neighbours Inter had Klinsmann, Matthaus, and Brehme. 6 fabulous footballers, when the worlds’ best all went to play in Italy.
