90s Burnley footage
Hi all, I was just going down a daily youtube rabbit hole and came across this video about the stadium redevelopment at Turf Moor.
It’s before my time in terms of being a supporter or going on but what are peoples memories of this period?

Re: 90s Burnley footage
I’ve not watched the video yet but will do later on.
From memory, the Longside went down first and I remember watching a few games from the Bee Hole End whilst there was a big empty space where the Longside once stood.
I also seem to recall that there was a narrow defeat against possibly Bradford for one of the stands last game - that was possibly the Bee Hole End.
Lastly, I remember people trying to get pieces of the Longside as souvenirs - I don’t know whether they just took them or the club actually sold lumps of it.
I’m sure the video may clear up my fuzzy memory!

Nice one. I think you will enjoy the video. I did and I have no memory of the old stand, the teams, managers, chairman, etc. so I am sure you will!StayingDown4Ever wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 1:24 pmI’ve not watched the video yet but will do later on.

Re: 90s Burnley footage
Watched all of that.
Really enjoyed it. I was a teenager then, but I'd moved away from Burnley. So it was all very exciting to see the progress each time I got to a match.
BUT...it looks so bloody old now. It was only the 90s, it looks like the 70s!!

I can remember everything on there apart from one player.
John Borland.
Did he really play for us?

Ginger haired midfielder I think.
Looked really promising for the youth team.

Re: 90s Burnley footage
According to his stats, he only made that one appearance for us.
Strange that it was the last game of the Longside.

I went to the open day with my dad. The sound of hammers and chisels reverberating under the longside were memorable. We ended up with a few bricks and a light fitting cover from the top corner of the longside. I'm sure he'll still have them in the shed.

There were a few who always looked promising in Youth Team but never made it. Think Borland ended up playing for Rossendale United at some point.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 4:39 pmGinger haired midfielder I think.

Re: 90s Burnley footage
I remember going to the first game when the new stand opened.
It appeared very steep on first sight.
There were some old timers going up the steps holding the steps above them with their hands for balance.

Re: 90s Burnley footage
Sad day when the Longside died, it was unbelievably brilliant when at its best but so sad when just a few hundred of us did our best to get an atmosphere going during the dark days. The Sunday when you could get souvenirs was surreal, and as has been mentioned, there was a constant sound of chiselling. I brought my children on so they could say they'd been in the Longside.
I got a chunk of terrace that I turned into a paperweight, and some of the barbed wire brackets that were bolted to the back of the Longside to stop you getting onto the roof and my mate altered them andcwelded them into a garden bench support frame. There is a you tube video of that sad Sunday.

Re: 90s Burnley footage
I thought for the last game they had taken down the segregation fence so you could walk from one end to the other of the Longside. But from watching that video it appears they were still up. Maybe they just opened the doors?

I had that on video, can’t find it now, but I have transferred it to DVD.
I remember it because some Fire Service colleagues were shown abseiling.

Yes I remember it like this also. It was all Clarets that game. Hull fans were moved.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 8:13 pmMy memory is also there was no segregation and away fans (Hull?) moved into another stand?
It was fantastic was the Longside.... we needed to move on, but it was full of characters, atmosphere, cigarette smoke and passion.
It was 1991 when I started going on with my dad, I'll always thank him for making me a Claret. I was only 9 then.

Re: 90s Burnley footage
I’m on this video as it pans to the kids at the front of the longside. I’m the one waving with my mates . Happy times, used to love it in there for the 5 years or so I had.
Re: 90s Burnley footage
Went on the Longside a few times as a kid, but I'm gutted I never got to properly experience it really. The atmosphere has gone since we went all seater, with the occasional exception.
