Re: Simple vote for Kompany to stay or go…no debate
I'm not sure what we gain by sacking him atm. Unlike others, I think last season's incredible achievements give him a safety net. Yes, some things have been baffling this season, and he is acting very stubbornly. But let's be honest, we could easily be at least level with Luton were it not for VAR decisions. We have had zero luck really this season.
Things need to change, yes, but I also think this squad could mimic last season's Championship performances with 2 or 3 properly sensible acquisitions.
That being said, morale was high. It's now at an all time low. And I'm not sure how we get that back.
Stay (for now)
But things have to change

Stay.
Last season was like no other season for me and I want him to get us out of this mess, starting next season.

Re: Simple vote for Kompany to stay or go…no debate
What happens if next season in the Champ the team after all the extra incomings/money spent etc etc aren't as good as the team in 22/23?
Be a bit of a strange predicament to be in and a big indictment.
Posted it many a team but I don't think last years achievement can be understated. Just 3 losses in a 46 game season is unbelievable; everything clicked, a perfect blend.

Pretty sure Leicester have already lost twice as many games as we did in the whole season but they will go up comfortably and probably smashing our points tally.
In my opinion we have much better players now (we have no idea which’ll stay so completely pointless discussing it beyond that) plus all the guys who got us up less Barnes. If we didn’t have them I could better understand the concern, but we do.

But if he picks Trafford, Amdouni and Odobert in a 4-4-2 on Sunday then I’ll be out

Differences (that keep being overlooked)
Leicester - new manager, fresh input and new direction, also didn't go down with a historically low points total - retained a few from their prior PL campaigns that have provided a spine (just like us last season)
Us - same manager, major question marks, same direction, going down with a historically low points total (as it stands). Longer standing senior players with PL experience are gone (bar maybe one or two).
As for the players - I don't think so. But if you do then that's an even bigger indictment because he's not getting anywhere near to a tune out of a supposed 'better squad'.
So something isn't adding up.

Leicester - I personally think new manager/input is as much of a risk as it is benefit. Especially when they have no championship/English football experience. It worked for us last year and them, but it’s also worked for us in the past backing a manager and giving him time (Dyche) so there’s arguments either side of that coin.
For me, I would not want a manager without Championship experience taking over now or in summer. That would worry me. New system, he’ll want his own players, etc etc. Far more risky.
Worth remembering we’ll have a squad of players now who have 38 games Premier League experience. Thats not to be sniffed at. The older ones, as much as I love them, are clearly coming to the end of their careers in the main and taking big salaries so being selective on who we keep is important.
If in summer we’re sat here having sold half this team, facing another rebuild, I’ll agree with you that there’s potential issues. If we have the core together plus last years lot I’ll be looking forward to the season.
A friendly start in terms of fixtures would be nice, and we’re owed one after this year.

There's a bigger summer coming up though - no doubt about that.
It's just becoming apparent to me just how important players like Cork, Jay, JBG, Brownhill, Barnes, and Taylor were last season. Offered stability and resilience in tough moments. It really was the perfect blend.

From the documentary think it’s clear barnes was the glue that held it all together, Barnes only having 12 months left were as Jay Rod had 2 years is the only season Jay stayed in my opinion.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:01 pmCan we please stop comparing the VK and first Dyche promotion season though? I can’t believe how little JBG has played centrally this season when we signed the amount of wide players we did.
I like Amdouni but it was clear early on we were trying to shoehorn him in the team at the expense of a out and out attack minded right winger

Re: Simple vote for Kompany to stay or go…no debate
I hope Kompany stays, but I also hope there are some changes to the way the club operates.
The amount of control that appears to have been vested in one person is a bit frightening. There is no obvious counterpoint to Kompany anywhere in the football side of the operation. Even last week Matt Williams appeared in thrall to him, and Pace most certainly appeared to be last summer. The coaching staff appears to be fully invested in Kompany, and there isn't any sort of sporting director or technical director, which makes us an outlier amongst top 30 clubs these days. I thought that was a mistake that hampered our progress under Dyche, and I think it's even more of an error when we're dealing with a manager as inexperienced as Kompany - particularly when his assistant is also very inexperienced.
I think some of our struggles this season are a product of that. Kompany has never been part of a really struggling team before - at his previous clubs only winning half the games in a season has been as bad as it gets. Setting up a team on the basis that avoiding defeat in half your games is an excellent outcome requires a different mindset. I do wonder if he was prepared for what that entails last summer - had he been I'm not sure he'd have gone about his summer business the same way.
Equally, he's got a new challenge on his hands next season - if he stays. There is a nucleus of good players in his squad currently but it needs leaders adding in, and he'll have to ensure his authority amongst the players isn't compromised by this season. On both counts, someone of clout who can level with Kompany seems a good idea. The bloke was a top player, is hugely intelligent and based on last season can clearly coach a side (at least in a certain style). But he isn't 38 yet. He doesn't know everything and he isn't infallible.

Don't disagree. Don't want to be a sacking club but the lack of desire is alarming so he has to arrest the slide and show he can get the cowards to grow a pair or be ruthless and drop them. Minimum expectation is for us to bounce back, if he wants that opportunity we need hit over twenty points.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 9:20 amHe's needed results in the last 5 and look what happened there

If Kompany was half the gentleman that he comes across has he would say ,’Sorry I’ve buggered it up ,I’ll leave tommorow without any compensation’ but it’s the real world and he’ll screw us for every penny he can.

Aye, and then Pace will bin him off, just a few short months after waxing lyrical about him being like the fittest bird in the world, with a rack to die for!

It's clear the majority on here want him to stay, which from what I see reflects the majority of fans.
Re: Simple vote for Kompany to stay or go…no debate
Stay. But there simply has to be an improvement tactically and for us to show some fight in what remains of the season. If not we need to find someone else to do the next rebuild.

Re: Simple vote for Kompany to stay or go…no debate
Whilst I’m very disappointed in what I’ve seen this season he’s got to stay for me.
Just been looking at league table of money spent to assemble the current Prem League squads and surprise surprise bottom
3 are :
18th Burnley
19th Sheffield United
20th Luton
Amount of money spent is usually reflected in league position. As supporters wr have seen a bigger spend than ever seen before at Turf Moor but it is still less than most of the teams we play each week.
Dyche left behind a squad of players who were a lot older than the Prem League average and no doubt many were on high wages. In the absence of massive billionaire investment the owners presumably have planned to reduce the age of squad and hopefully fund success on the field with younger players on lower wages but it takes a few years to transition.
In the meantime I feel the young lads trying to find their feet in a cruel Prem League have been floundering and confidence is shot.
We get nothing from the opposition and same goes for VAR which I hate.
VK has had lots of injuries to contend with and sticking plaster team selection is not going to provide success in this league.
I hope VK can move out some of the squad who he has now had time to assess and build a team for Championship success.
Some of the alternative manager options Bering suggested do not fill me with hope so I’m prepared to give him more time.

Stay - but the end of this season can’t come soon enough.
Re: Simple vote for Kompany to stay or go…no debate
Sacking him is the easy option. One thing Burnley has shown over the years is we stick by managers when the going is tough. They could have sacked Ternant but the club stuck by him. Many clubs would have sacked Dyche after the first relegation especially the position we were in at Christmas the season after.

He has his work cut out raising the morale of these young players, but so would any replacement.
The mistakes we made are easily overcome with a good window, and VK has enough credit in the bank for last seasons incredible campaign.

Exactly this. Our recent success is based upon a degree of stability and not knee jerk reactions. I also agree with this other post which lists similar reasons that I hold for keeping VK in the buildingTPClaret wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 7:54 amSacking him is the easy option. Stay, but judge again after 10-15 games next season

Credit in the bank for the total change in style etc last season………….but this season has exposed the lack of experience across the board- next season tho, we go again.

Absolutely, but how many times have we already said that this season? Look how many times he tried everyone but Charlie Taylor at Left Back? He hasn't seemed to learn from any of his mistakes and has never looked like many big changes, even the absolutely blatantly obvious ones.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 12:08 amClaretspice absolutely nails it.
Stick with him but he has to start learning and rotating players that aren't delivering.
I do worry about us leaving him to shape our summer for next season and then just giving him a few games to see how it goes. I think that would be bonkers. Either keep him and stick with it completely or let him go and give someone else the chance to try and get a tune out of these lads, whilst still being in the Prem and have a better chance of attracting a higher calibre manager than we would if he starts poorly in the Championship.
