Available Managers...
For those that are VK out, who would you take?
Have to remember that's going to be one very expensive payoff..
My concerns (as they have been all season) is if the hangover carries on into the next season with such a low points total.
I've just been looking, available managers, some not too farfetched.
Free agents:
Andre Villas-Boas - 14 years on from his application to takeover after Judas left.
Ruud Van Nistlerooy - won silverware with PSV then left because he felt that he wasn't backed, PSV currently doing just fine without him
Steve Cooper - unsure, seems a decent bloke but would you want him for the long term?
Graham Potter? - don't think he'd come
Giovanni Van Bronkhurst? Few good year with Rangers then fell to pot.
Mike Duff - nah, not what we need.
Jesse Marsch - please god no.
Under contract:
McKenna?
Carrick?
Robins?
Corberán?
Knutsen?
Left field:
Pat Noonan, manager in the MLS, won the MLS last season...
Really don't want to be a club that pots gaffers, and would like a long term manager and really wanted it to be VK but can we afford to continue going on getting battered every week?
I just don't see next season being anywhere near like it was in 22/23. The team looks just miles off it.
Thoughts, Clarets?

Need it...
Re: Available Managers...
Cooper would be a good option. He basically did the same thing as Vincent when he turned Forest around so quickly in the Championship. The owner then brought in a huge number of players and it took half a season for him to knit a team together. They were brilliant the second half of last season and I think he was treated harshly this season.
Ralph Hasenhüttl might not be a bad shout, although I guess there's a reason he's not had a job since he left Southampton.

Re: Available Managers...
Quite like Rosenior at Hull, but not sure about him as a PL manager yet. I don't like the idea of putting Jackson in until the end of the season. I think if VK goes, we need to fight to stay up, which means appointing someone who can put fire in these players' bellies. We're obviously down, but that's no reason to write the season off with an interim appointment. There's also the fact Jackson is now a part of the backroom staff which put us in this miserable position.

Can't have a guy that's overseen two 9-0 losses. Exactly what we don't need.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 8:09 pmCooper would be a good option. Rosenior
Re: Available Managers...
Two 9-0 losses isn't much different than six 3-0's if you're picking up a point or three in between the two 9-0's.
Re: Available Managers...
I like Rosenior Carrick Robins and McKenna too but better than VK? I don’t see how
VK has never lost to any of those managers in 8 games. 6 wins and 2 draws.

Cooper would be ok I would have thought, can’t be any worse than this. He had to put up with the owner meddling a lot at forest buying players he didn’t want etc.
Anyone but the current incumbent would be better for me. Go down fighting not clueless.

Pat Noonan did not win the MLS either, Wilfred Nancy did with Columbus Crew

Re: Available Managers...
Nancy would be a better fit, possession based style, 4 at the back. Had to replace their best player mid season in Zelaryan.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 8:18 pmYou're right - he finished first then lost the playoff or whatever the hell they do. Again, as I said - left field (but half makes sense with our owners)
I don’t want a 5 at the back manager like Pat Noonan.
Re: Available Managers...
Doesn't work like that. This season's VK is not the same as last season's VK, and this season's Burnley is not the same as last season's Burnley. What's important is that we're currently insipid, with nothing to suggest we'll turn this around and lots to suggest we'll get worse. It sounds ludicrous, but we need change for the sake of change, because things need to change. Otherwise, this is us until May, then we'll carry this illness into next season. We didn't have such illness after Dyche's first PL season. We fought and lost, but at least we fought.

Pep couldn’t save us this season.
Let’s get back to the best league in the country and let VK take us back up.
Top 6 Championship is amazing for Burnley. Enjoy it

I mean we are heading to the Championship next season and I know who id rather have to mount a promotion push out of Kompany Corberan Carrick McKenna Robins or Rosenior.Spiral wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 8:20 pmDoesn't work like that. I’ll take the chap who smashed the lot to pieces and won the title with 103 points in his first and only season at that level.

I reckon xabi alonso or pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho.
Re: Available Managers...
Major upheaval before an important Championship season where we will be favourites for the title just sounds incredibly stupid.

Do you honestly reckon there'll be a repeat of that? No hangover? If yes then stick with him. I'm not so certain

Scott Parker?

We’ve had nothing but upheaval every window, the club is desperate for stability.

Re: Available Managers...
He’s frozen out most of his best players at the level below do we honestly think they are going to want to pull any trees up for him like when he first came in. In sure there are lots of unhappy players in the club right now.
He’s going to need a full squad rebuild again! I’d rather we keep the players and change the manager to someone who works with what is already here as the players in the main aren’t bad.
Ship the flops out of the team and build again.
He is going to persist with his flops I can see it now.

Vincent Kompany is available still , top player, knows the game inside out, got us up here as champions with ease, familiar with the set up at the club too.
about a hundred times the credentials as the ones aforementioned in my opinion.

Not if he had high demands to have the same free reign that he does here (and it;s just a hunch but I believe he will have more influence/freedome after his new contract) that the prospective club uses his part owned company for all their recruitment/player analysis and lean out any pre existing set of scouts etc.

Personally I find it extremely disrespectful to discuss this topic while VK is still in the job and, IMO, still the best manager for the job in hand
Scott Parker has a similar managerial record to VK, albeit faired much better in the PL.

If we were to get rid of kompany, I’d be looking at klopps assistant, he wants to go out and be a manager at the end of the season
Re: Available Managers...
What happens to a squad that’s checked out this season? Can you just pick them up and dust them down?
Do you trust him with another major transfer window after the shambles the last two have been?
He failed to spot the gaping holes in the squad and instead brought in winger after winger. He’s sent one out on loan, and the other is a sub in the 99th minute.
I don’t believe he’s got the dressing room, I don’t believe he’s got the ability, and I don’t believe he’s got the awareness to know that he needed to improve his own output games ago.
Pot him and we stand a chance for next season!

It’s also difficult to judge transfer windows because it’s hard to know who Kompany actually wanted and who the board delivered. We all know Verbruggen was his first choice, how far down the list was Trafford? Lukebakio was in the building, then signed for Sevilla. We agreed a fee for Maatsen and he decided to stay. Boey was clearly a top target. Dier heavily linked.
Now if we got Dier Boey Maatsen Lukebakio and Verbruggen it’s an entirely different team. The board didn’t deliver those players and brought in others for various reasons.
