Today’s decisions

Post by Sproggy » Sat Feb 24, 2024 9:09 pm

Our view wasn’t ideal. So:

Was there goal offside (took an age to confirm)?
Was it a penalty (seemed harsh)?
Should Wharton have got a 2nd yellow?
Should our goal have stood?

Ref bottled Wharton 2nd yellow
Rules state that our goal was rightly disallowed but keeper is never saving it and doesn’t even claim
Pen was harsh but contact
Defo onside

Vitinho got the ball IMO so no pen.
Their second should be ruled out if ours is - can’t rule one out without ruling out the other

That decision redefines what a penalty is

No, yes, yes, no. Wharton should have had an early bath everything else was done by the book, mateta never made contact when the ball traveled through had he have done it would have been offside unfortunately onside, the vitinho was harsh but a pen it was clumsy franca had already lost control so why he had to intervene I'll never know. God knows what happens at gawthorpe he's effectively putting a team out that play like they've never seen each other.

I'm with you Rick, however, after officiating for many years after playing for even more, I am at a total loss as to what constitutes offside, foul play etc., etc.
We had a player cautioned today for winning a ball fair and square but his opponent then fell over and the ref fell for the whole fiasco.
Don't even mention Ayew, a slight breeze makes him fall over and officlals can't see what he is doing.
The whole game at the top level is getting beyond a joke.

Not sure about Wharton, at the time it felt a clear 2nd yellow at least.

Seen it back on highlights, he looked to completely pull out of it. He started to go in full blooded, but then looked wise enough to pull out.

He has pulled out of the foul but because he has a loose touch and is rash to begin with he ends up taking both Cullen and Berge out and if he isn’t already on a booking the ref gives a yellow, when you look back at what Berge received 2 yellows for at Villa.

We still played terrible but if the ref sends Wharton off it’s back to 10 v 10 at 0-0 and palace have to change system to get another midfielder on the pitch

Wharton got the benefit of the doubt because he was already on a yellow and it wasn't malicious so ref went easy on him.

It's a pen - vithino clatters through him really clumsily and gets a tiny tiny fraction on the ball (whys he tackling with his left there?

Both goals are either offside or onside (who knows the rules these days) Give one you give the other and vice versa.

Bottom line is we were shite and yet again struggled to create anything at all

the Wharton one was laughable, he managed to take not 1 but 2 of our players out with an uncontrolled lunge.

Of course it was a peno....had it been up the other end and not been given, everyone without exception would have been frothing at the mouth.

Ref bottled Wharton's second yellow.
