Kompany: I want winning fist-pumps with fans again
Vincent Kompany is sick of leaving Burnley’s fans nothing to celebrate and is desperate to reward them with a victory fist pump this weekend.
The Clarets boss made a habit of sharing the afterglow of another three points with supporters during last year’s promotion campaign but has found little cause for cheer since returning to the Premier League.
His side have just three wins from 26 games, the last of those coming on December 23, and are rooted in 19th place with the prospect of relegation looming.
“We’re all in it with our passions and emotions. We take a real punch to the guts when we lose and it hurts – just like the fans do,” he said.
“You go to fans when it’s going well and you give them the first pump, then when it’s going badly all of a sudden what are you going to do – run inside?
“The question was asked after the last game ‘did you go and apologise?’. No, no way. If you work hard in your job from morning to evening, with everything you’ve got to give, you don’t go and apologise.
“Being respectful? 100 per cent. Being together? Yes. I’m just believing the good times are coming again.
“I would love nothing more than to go back to fans and do the fist pumps again, that’s how I visualise Sunday. We’ve got to be able to imagine ourselves winning these kind of games…you have to have that ambition.”

Dead easy Vinny , stop playing total duds every game and expecting a different result.
Hows about showing some loyalty to the players that actually got you in this league, just a thought.....

I agree wholeheartedly you could understand it more if the ideology & methods maintained were actually encouraging decent performances or results but it's not. Anybody with half a brain would stop & take stock & realise something isn't working I need to change the things & do things differently.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 7:24 pmDead easy Vinny , stop playing total duds every game and expecting a different result.

VK honestly looked like a different man in his presser today than the breathe of fresh air that we had last year, summer and even the sort of first third of the season.
Looked really dejected.

Re: No need to apologise
It's about time to forget all this psychological claptrap and start talking football. What did we learn from this 20 min. stream of words that pointed to our chances in the match on Sunday? Mind you, the poor questions from the so-called journalists just allow VK to ramble on with his intangibles. So many words, so little said.

I accept that Trafford isn't up to the level we may expect for a PL goalkeeper, but can anyone honestly say that Muric is better?

You are entitled to this opinion. I'm not sure a goalkeepers ability to pass a football defines success at PL level.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 11:46 pm& our league position indicates and god-awful style of play suggests that it probably should be.

There's no better box to tick than vk saw with he's own eye's from around 10 games into last season, I'm not sure he could tick any other box to be any more convincing, he's clearly got to have upset vk in some way.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 11:43 pmI have no idea how many can, but it's clearly not being seen as a major factor in selection.

Muric will be a liability in the prem.in the championship we dominate possession and the opposition have limited chances.in the prem it will be totally different and his actual goalkeeping defensive abilities will be tested far more and unfortunately he falls a lot short in that important department.we need somebody with his undoubted passing ability to continue the way we play and to have more physical presence in his area.it won't be cheap to find but vk needs to priotise this in summer to continue to play we do

I suspect the logical conclusion is that we can shuffle all our players in any order and they will still come up short.
Transfer window was challenging, especially with the agent rules changing which made it the wild west last summer. That and tactics being a bit naive, with some biased refereeing, are probably costing us our spot. Not sure who is selected makes that big a difference.

Well said Vincent. Hope he shuts up all you fans lapping up the negativity around him and the players at the minute. After what he's done for the club since the scarily difficult period around May '22, he'll always have my full backing and gratitude. He's got a young team who clearly aren't ready for the PL, but he's a winner and he'll get it right - whether that's this season or next in the championship.
