I don't think any ref is thinking they won't send a Bournemouth player off because they have a favourable media narrative; it's purely because they are weak and wildly substandard in their ability.
If you want the prime example of players taking the **** out of spineless referees, look at the guy who did his hamstring early on yesterday. His pal signalled for a sub immediately and he was sat 2 yards from the goalline but the ref let them get a sub ready and then let him walk off slowly to leave the pitch near our bench, meekly gesturing to get off a bit quicker.
If you want a prime example of incompetence, look at Assignon and their lad tangling, shaking hands and cracking on only for the ref to spend a minute blowing his whistle calling them back to shake hands.
Refs want respect but nobody is going to respect somebody with no self respect. Yes, player behaviour is an issue but only because ethe officials refuse to do anything about it. They have ruined the game, certainly at the top level.

They "have favourable media narratives".
Can provide examples - commentary on Luton has remarked upon Kenilworth Road positively. In reality it is an absolute **** hole. First season so style of play is not being commented on - under Dyche we got battered frequently for a fairly similar style. Brighton are perceived to have built the stature of the club the correct way. In reality, they have been bank rolled by a very rich owner. This is ignored. Bournemouth coverage frequently ignores how Howe spent plenty to drag them up the leagues.

I don't believe they think. It is subconscious. Watch any Luton game and the snide tricks they get up to go unpunished, we don't get the same tolerance. I can agree with a degree of incompetence, you pick out some good examples, just not to the extent that we are seeing this season. The foul on Cullen should be a red, a Burnley player doing that against a Bournemouth player walks.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 11:31 amI don't think any ref is thinking they won't send a Bournemouth player off because they have a favourable media narrative; it's purely because they are weak and wildly substandard in their ability.

Looking at the highlights, and there was a foul on Cullen in the build up to their second goal. Soft maybe but no real difference to our disallowed goal.
In fact it was the main reason they scored because Cullen was out of the game
