Re: Berge
He won't be hanging around here too long after the season ends.
Hope I'm wrong mind.

Would probably look a far better player in a good team.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 3:21 pmhe's the one in summer we have to try and keep, he's a good few levels above the rest imho
He's a classy player and it's probably harsh but we need more from him. Wish he'd make more of those driving runs and occasionally pull the trigger.

Re: Berge
Good player.
Did well chasing back and getting that challenge in on the one VAR looked at.

Re: Berge
I think I’m in the minority where I think he doesn’t suit our style and actually causes us problems as a result.
Still think he’s arguably our technically most gifted player. But I just can’t help think Cullen has been dropped for him and it’s really effected how we play.

Re: Berge
Agreed, keeping hold of him should be a priority.
I'm not exactly confident, mind.

Re: Berge
I'd add Vitinho, thought he looked bright first half playing on the wing. Usual lack of end product but thought he really helped the build up play and our press.Sheedyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 3:23 pmThought him and Cullen decent today that’s probably about it

Good by our standards.
Which admittedly isn't a very high bar....

Honestly I'm not arsed about keeping any of them that have played regularly this season bar Koleosho.

Re: Berge
Berge and Cullen in midfield with Foster upfront next season will be the difference between automatic promotion and scrapping to make the play-offs.

Wish he’d be able to head a ball and burst into the box for the numerous crosses we whip in to their nearest man.

Re: Berge
Berge was actually excellent today, as was Cullen. Berge tired badly in the final 20 minutes and that cost us unfortunately, but tbf he'd worked his balls off.

That seems harsh..
Admittedly it's a low bar, but he's consistently been our best midfielder...

Re: Berge
How the average person on here can see that if you played culllen with either cork, brownhill, JBG or Massengo and then let Berge have a free role but kompany can’t see it.
Feel sorry for Berge having to play so close to his back 4

Re: Berge
If we are comparing last seasons midfield to what we are hoping for next season, then a replacement for Cork is the number one priority with Berge playing the role that Brownhill did.
A replacement for Cork was a major priority this season but that seemed to pass the recruitment team by.

Re: Berge
We didn’t need a replacement for cork, cork 100% still good enough to play one game a week, the leadership and organisation cork could have brought to the team this seasonGoody1975 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 10:17 pmIf we are comparing last seasons midfield to what we are hoping for next season, then a replacement for Cork is the number one priority with Berge playing the role that Brownhill did.

Re: Berge
Berge and Cullen would be a promotion winning midfield, no doubt in my mind about that. Vital we keep him and we should be building our team around that duo next season. A core of Beyer/O’Shea, Berge/Cullen and Foster would be a decent starting point for The Championship. Reintegrate Benson and Zaroury, sign two full backs and get Mellon involved off the bench…
Makings of a good side for that division, in my opinion.

Re: Berge
Berge stayed at Sheffield United for a couple of years in the Champ so don't think it's a foregone conclusion that he leaves in the summer. Hopefully not, anyway!

More than good. It’d be excellent. Imagine it might be Esteve and Beyer though.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 10:24 pmBerge and Cullen would be a promotion winning midfield, no doubt in my mind about that. Need two fullbacks as Assingnon will be off as will Charlie. Think we’d be fine with Vitinho at RB but badly need a LB or two potentially.
Keeping Berge is absolutely critical though. Need to resist all offers and show some ambition.
Re: Berge
The last promotion had experienced pros throughout the squad (Cork, Barnes, Taylor, JBG).
Next season we will have none of those. I’m not fully sure I trust VK to bring in the experience we’ll need.

Cork being brought into the side last season transformed us. Why we haven't tried it again is anyone beyond me.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 10:19 pmWe didn’t need a replacement for cork, cork 100% still good enough to play one game a week, the leadership and organisation cork could have brought to the team this season

Re: Berge
Said it since the start of the season, we played a more defensive system in the championship with 3 out and out cms with brownhill being the furthest forward. Cork and Cullen behind.what_no_pies wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 11:30 pmCork being brought into the side last season transformed us. Why we haven't tried it again is anyone beyond me.
It was only around end of Feb time once the league had been pretty much done that kompany decided to take cork out the team.
Those first 10 games this season when we went all out attack just set the tone for the season, not saying we would stay up but had we been more reserved we could have picked up one of those nearly promoted early season wins against one of the so called big teams

Re: Berge
If he is average at best, what would you call the rest of the team ?
Re: Berge
The squad is absolutely filled with experience, experience of winning 100+ points and lifting the trophy, they all know what is required to do it. Similarly if we keep the squad together and gain promotion, the squad will be full of players experienced in being one of the worst sides the PL has ever seen, hopefully this painful relegation will do the side some good long term, if we go straight back up.
