If we played like Luton I would never watch Burnley again. We have been unlucky in games and robbed by VAR in games including Luton at home.

Re: Luton Town
They tend to stay in games. I know this thread isn't a comparison to us, but we're not usually within a goal of the opposition going into injury time. I can't remember many games this season when it seemed possible that points could be won or lost in injury time.

5-1, 4-1, 5-0 at home and the rest. We are 8 points behind a team we were some 20 points ahead of last season but we are better to watch.

I actually think he’ll be the bigger man and offer sincere congratulations to Rob Edwards and team, but maybe that’s just me. He knows he’s made errors, it’s up to him now to correct it and get back on track.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2024 9:40 pmI think VK will be squirming if Luton stay up .. spending virtually nothing it goes against the grain we can’t compete in this league etc

Definitely prefer our new style, coming out looking like we have already lost in the first minute - Palace springs to mind. Re: Luton Town
We survived playing shithouse football with shithouse players playing at their absolute peak. Its championship route one football. Yes it’ll score more EPL points than what what we’re trying to do.
Their players will will stay while the goose is fat and they’re taking a good wage. The wheels will fall off when their squad ages and cant perform at the levels required.
Luton’s season is akin to Ruiz’s lucky temple punch on AJ when he took his titles. Every game is smash and grab with any points absolutely stolen.
I have no idea why people dont see it.
Yes we’ve spent a barrell full of money. We’ve got players who we’re hoping to grow into City and Arsenal - esque players.
Success is those players growing and selling them like Brighton did Caicedo, then growing again.
Burnley had always had players on the talent conveyor belt. (Mostly one at a time) and sold them regularly to stay afloat.
That got us here.
This is just the next stage. Getting the conveyor belt going again. It just hurts watching these kids having to learn in the prem.
Im not blind to whats going on. People see VK making poor subs (in their opinion) and sticking with Trafford.
He’s learning too. Those complaining just dont see the evolution and are yearning for SD football just for the short term fix of getting three points.
Come on burnley fans.

2) No it isn't
3) It's nothing about a perceived style/tactics. It's simply about getting the most out of the players you have on the books and change a style over time to match incoming players that you have.
So the rest of your post is conjecture.
Oh and Brighton certainly didn't flick a switch overnight, they've slowly changed their style after consolidating in the PL and also have spent a metric **** ton in doing so, whilst having a Billionaire owner who is a spread betting guru.
Any club that doesn't have the resources to match the top half of the PL will eventually drop, no matter the style.
For every Brighton there's a Stoke.
For us to have played 7 seasons with Dyche in the top flight, including a 6 year stay over the past decade suggests that approach is anything but a 'lucky smash and grab'.

How can it be Championship football if it gets you more Premier League points than whatever it is we're trying to do?Notsosuperstevedavis wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 9:43 amWe survived playing shithouse football with shithouse players playing at their absolute peak. Re: Luton Town
I wouldn't describe it as shithouse football. It was our most successful period in my lifetime, and I certainly enjoyed going to games more than I do at the moment.Notsosuperstevedavis wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 9:43 amWe survived playing shithouse football with shithouse players playing at their absolute peak. No other team has bad luck or VAR going against them
Playing the style we do, we should be mid table at least

Re: Luton Town
Their point yesterday was reminiscent of many of our performances of the Dyche era. They were absolutely tonked by a Palace side that were relentless in attack but somehow couldn't get that 2nd goal. A good ball into the box and a flick on with severe spin rescued a point. Let's not pretend they were ever anything other than very fortunate. If some fans are happy to regress to that scenario fine but I'll stick with what the potential may yet reap down the line

Re: Luton Town,
Luton did and are doing well. They certainly have the team spirit and attitude that we had under Dyche, unfortunately I don’t see that in our current squad, having said that and looking at our current position I’m more convinced that we came up a season too early. Just hope they learn and quickly in the championship what it’s all about, depending on who stays of course. Interesting to read that Esteve made reference to how much more physical and quicker it is from where he’s been playing.

Exactly, 7th in the PL playing 'shithouse' football. I would take that style over the tippy tappy side-to-side then backwards crap that we play right now.

It's somewhat ironic given that we have 5 red cards this season alone, and have gone seasons without getting a red when Sean was manager.Poulton-le-Claret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 11:12 amExactly, 7th in the PL playing 'shithouse' football. Yep, mostly resulting from the fact we can't do the basics of defending. It wasn't very often we gifted teams a goal or a red card under SD, now it is a weekly occurrence.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 11:13 amIt's somewhat ironic given that we have 5 red cards this season alone, and have gone seasons without getting a red when Sean was manager.

Re: Luton Town,
Having too big a squad doesn`t help team bonding or continuity, players not involved on match days can have a disruptive effect on morale, having fewer tight knit players playing week in week out helped give us our siege mentality/ all in it together feeling.beddie wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 10:42 amLuton did and are doing well. Fans are complaining because in the main they don't understand why last seasons excellent team was dismantled in favour of young men who aren't, and possibly never will be, good enough to make an impact in the Premier League.Notsosuperstevedavis wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 4:15 pmSeason ticket holder. I hate this season. I’ve had enough.
But it doesnt change the fact I think that these kids have to be our future.
They also point to Kompany's sometimes strange substitutions, although possibly you dont see it that way.
Everyone is hating this season, its obviously been dreadful, but lets not pretend that recruiting these young, inexperienced players hasn't been the main factor in that.
