Team bonding.

Post by Darnhill Claret » Sun Mar 10, 2024 11:48 am

Surprised after recent posts that there has been no comments relating to this week's team bonding in Manchester. I can only assume that a few more turned up.

I thought I just had. There was a team bonding exercise/session in Manchester this week. I wasn't there, so can't give you any specific details as to who did and who didn't turn up.

It wasn’t a success. Apparently they could only afford Bostick and they just all fell apart after 15 minutes.

One of the major problems with signing so many youngsters, from so many locations. Team building takes time and after promotion we didn’t have any.

And/or a leader on the pitch to guide them.

It doesn’t even make any sense. You can level plenty at Trafford (and no doubt Bumba has), but he’s not been dropping crosses etc this season.

Even the easy catches he chooses to punch and several times it's landed us back under pressure when a catch was easy and takes the pressure off

Yep, he's the first goalkeeper in BFC history whose punched clearances go to an opposition player.

They used to say that Stevenson didn't get more England chances because he punched the ball more than the others

He’d have had a **** tonne of caps under Gareth, then.

Pickford loves to punch it out.

From what I've seen, Pickford likes to get 2 closed fists behind a fair percentage of shots. This is different to punching crosses which Pickford rarely does for England.

Whilst the team are performing as they are, the social media team have been told not to put out any pics of the lads having fun/smiling/joking around etc - TEAM BONDING

It's come from Pace direct
I know of people who have left recently cos of the changes going on behind the scenes with stuff like this
He's even got family members working at the club with zero football experience

Generally I am a believer in putting things out there.

Rare in house interview with Esteve and Assignon yesterday. The young 21 year old Esteve was on about his wife taking time to settle. Must be tough coming from overseas at such a young age.

These kind of things make fans appreciate the players and their efforts. Granted, I don’t feel the need to see a team bonding session, but from honest interviews can’t hurt.

This actually sounds quite sensible reasoning in regards to posting pictures of team bonding. My worry is more about the famous team spirit we had under Dyche disappearing. We dont hear much about it from the players anymore.

fully agree. it's not ideal showing that side when we're suffering b2b losses
one lady i know in particular was quite high up in the marketing/social dept - and has left due to all the recent changes happening internally, that she says are "backwards changes" - and didnt want to be part of it

I'm pretty sure that most who have played team sports accept that "bonding" comes easier when you are winning. The idea that this can be forced (a bit like the popular modern "team building") is basically a load of bull's hit.

The only pictures of players out together under Dyche were at the races, when Wood and Westy etc.. had the syndicate.

There must be more to it than just not posting photos of the players enjoying themselves then, because if it’s true Pace has made that decision I wholeheartedly agree with it.

I don’t expect the players to mope around all week after a defeat, in fact I’d say that’s pretty counterproductive, but equally I don’t think fans would react well to seeing footage of them ‘bonding’ or having a great laugh while we’re all hurting.

That’s a society thing.

If we had photographers at funerals/wakes like we do weddings it’d be the same. We’re allowed to laugh and joke when things aren’t quite ideal. We all do it to some extent.

It is, but my comment was more that it would be met by absolute uproar on here. UTC would be in meltdown.

These clowns do t give a ****, they’re taking us down and taking the **** out of us… I can see it all now. So good decision by Pace if true.

Yes, those that choose to be negative would take a negative view, but hopefully the majority would see it for what it is. Any attempt to improve team spirit should be applauded and encouraged. I would have one a week now, take a break from the daily grind of the training ground or incorporate more games and challenges into training. Lift the mood.

Wasn't it Bardsley & Pieters who went out for a meal the night we got relegated with their wives and we had clowns moaning that they had gone out enjoying themselves.

This was still done by some even knowing both players had been released.

Agree on this. Hopefully they are doing that and also have lots of ways for keeping training fun. This season is over now (it was a long while ago), so we need to focus on team morale and sticking together for a good push next year.

27 people cared enough to comment, only 2 people appear to have been mildly critical of Pieters and Bardsley, and nobody was abusive towards them.

That’s not the one I remember (although actually did t recall it as just Pieters/Bardsley either - recalled it as the whole team). Think there might’ve been chat elsewhere on it too, but more understanding than I remember.

Some good old posters talking sense on that thread. I miss many of them.

This is priceless: Clovius Boofus mocking Bumba for his (it's got to be a He) Username.

I suppose the modern world being the modern world it could be the same person mocking themselves online.

I always wondered if there would come a point when the nature of modernity would became so divorced from any reality that you grew up with that you start to accept your own mortality as not only something that is inevitable but something that you are pretty ambivalent about.

And I think that exchange is quite possibly the tipping point in my reality or a perception of reality that clearly ended sometime around the invention of TikTok.
