He is the one who said he was working for MUD Analytics when he arrived at BurnleyVegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 3:29 pmhttps://theathletic.com/5336002/2024/03 ... ed-article

Seem to be a lot of staff and a lot involved in analytics and looking at lap top screens. I wish there were more doing training and more eyes on the pitch instead.

When you go into it the turnover of employees at the club is quite significant compared to what we have previously been used to and that is not just on the football side - I know some observers are paying close attention to itFunkydrummer wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 4:17 pmWho are these people ?

I'm tending to be one of those people. It's a little "out of the ordinary"Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 4:20 pmWhen you go into it the turnover of employees at the club is quite significant compared to what we have previously been used to and that is not just on the football side - I know some observers are paying close attention to it

Data analysis is only as good as whoever and however you interpret the data.
Virtually everybody has the data these days. It's what you do with it that counts.

As he only started last summer and our recruitment has been disastrous it makes you wonder whether he jumped before he was pushed!!

Re: Marc Boixasa
He took that role last year, but was with us from when Kompany joined, at the time he said he was working for MUD Analytics on his LinkedIN page
Re: Marc Boixasa
Opening a can of worms Chester well be back to the Mud topic which ended in rancour!
If he worked for Mud how can he work for Burnley where the manager is a Director of Mud! Have to say Rileybob got a lot of stick but it’s a clear conflict of interest!!!!

A real coup this for Al-Hilal, a proper football man is Marc.

I think he works for a subsidiary of MUD Analytics these days. SAND Analytics .
Re: Marc Boixasa
I wonder if he has gone to Al Hilal for the cash or for footballing reasons.

Re: Marc Boixasa
Interesting the article mentioned the new CEO at the Saudi club , was looking for MB (10 years working for City under Pep) to replicate what he’d done under Pep… couldn’t help wonder what he’s been doing here the last 2 yrs …
Anyway ,a tough loss for the club for a man that lives and breathes football .

Re: Marc Boixasa
Linked In profile suggests his time at Man City was the link between players, families, agents, management etc.
Just goes to show what stuff goes on behind the scenes. Unclear the exact role he had at BFC as Chief of Staff.

The Americans were probably a bit taken aback when we said we had a 'Chief of Staff'.

Re: Marc Boixasa
Probably. I don’t remember seeing that news at all though. Or even knowing we had a Chief of Staff anymore. I thought that was the young guy (who looked completely inappropriately experienced) that Alan brought in initially and then got sacked.
Re: Marc Boixasa
The Saudi move makes sense then assuming he's good as there does seem to be a big issue with some players not settling well out thereCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 6:24 pmLinked In profile suggests his time at Man City was the link between players, families, agents, management etc.

Apparently Marc Boixasa is leaving Burnley FC to take a key role with Saudi club Al-Hilal.
He was chief of staff at Burnley, a post previously held by Mark Thompson who was shunted out very quickly. Been with us since summer 2023 but been a technical scout for MUD Analytics since the summer of 2022. Previously with Manchester City.
To be honest, it's the first time I've ever heard mention of his name.

Re: Marc Boixasa
This is true. Some teams have the data, but don’t use or ignore it (Man United spring to mind), some use it but don’t get it right, and others are great at it. I doubt it’s even about analytics these days, more likely data science as algorithms and AI are developed to make sense of the matrix.
It’s probably a lot more nuanced than that though. The majority of clubs are using it to find hidden bargains for the level they’re operating at. You can’t expect instant success, so you need the right training and managers who are prepared to give them a chance and stick by them when it isn’t great in the early days. The club needs to be patient with the manager when results aren’t good enough knowing that the long term benefits outweigh the short term issues. Trust and belief throughout the club are key, other wise you’ll end up throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
All sounds familiar. We had the unexpected success last year, but this year it’s been the opposite. I think what’s sometimes easy to forget is that Brighton and Brentford had been developing their models for years before they hit the Premier League under the radar. We started this season two and a half years in to using ALK’s approach.
