Now I Don't Know The First Thing About Football..

But my instincts tell me there used to be something called 'The Back Pass Rule'

when did they amend this rule?

He used his knee, it wasn't a back pass.

My grandson informed me the ref pointed to the top of his leg as he waved play on I'm certain it still should have been deemed a back pass and could have cost us 2 points in the end

Sorry, I genuinely thought he had kicked it with his foot from where I was. My bad eyes.

People around me were screaming for a back pass

Mind you, these are also the same people that are screaming that the keeper is time wasting when he drops the ball at his feet and waits to kick it

I'm sure they've made it easier, like originally it was any part of the leg if the backpass was deemed intentional then the keeper couldn't handle it?

I was absolutely amazed at how many Burnley fans appealed this

Hand up, I was one appealing. I thought (I guess wrongly) that it had to be above the waist to pass to the 'keeper? He clearly used his knee to pass the ball back to the 'keeper. No foul huh? I'll go re-read the rule book.

I genuinely didn’t know until today that you could use the top half of your leg to play it back and it isn’t against the rules to pick it up.

You learn something new every day.

It has never been a back pass if you use your knee, except under the Brian Laws amendment. Laws was playing for Forest in pre-season, I believe, and he had the ball at his feet and knelt down and "kneed" it to the keeper. They changed the law to make it illegal to artificially subvent the knee rule, but kneeing it back was still legal in open play.

It's a long time since Brian Laws stopped playing. This isn't a new rule.

I guess most won’t have played football in the last few years on here, I just know from playing as I’ve done it many times

I was sat in 100 today and that short arsed git with the leather jacket and beanie was constantly jumping up and down slagging off the ref. Most of the coffin dodgers in the BL seem to think he rules have not changed, since the 1950's read Law 12 rule 2 pondlife
