Amdouni
On and then off? Not a great idea. He looked as if the break had done him good and he was playing well. Bringing on Brownhill with a good five or six minutes of extra time still to be played was rather stressful.

Re: Amdouni
On a yellow card and after he gave away the free kick on the edge of our box very rashly, I thought it was a pretty reasonable decision. Did look sharp though.

He wasn’t playing well he is lightweight. It was a daft substitution and Kompany realised he’d made a mistake.

Re: Amdouni
Could easily have seen red so probably rightly hooked in the circumstances.
Re: Amdouni
He wasn't playing well. As with the Bournemouth game I felt all our momentum ended as soon as Zeki walked on the pitch. He had absolutely no impact on the game. I'm not sure what we do with him as his confidence is clearly gone.

Re: Amdouni
Unfortunate for him but it was the correct decision after he got a yellow card taking one for the team.

Was the right thing protecting our man advantage ... after he got booked Bond could have tried to level the playing field

Feel for him, he looks like he has the weight of the World on his shoulders, would love him to get a couple of goals before the season is out.
Re: Amdouni
Gave the ball away 3 times when we were attacking and deserved his yellow. Amongst many disappointments this season he's probably been the worst.

It felt as though we lost our one man advantage when he was on. Lightweight and ineffective against a team trying to force their way back into the game.

It was the right sub and circumstantial. Just unfortunate. VK has done that a few times to see out a win: see Zaroury and Twine. We criticise VK for daft subs, but today, even though he’d only been on for a short period, it was the right call.

Exactly this.
It was the wrong sub and the manager realised. He was a passenger and we started to be overrun.
VK probably saw it as an ideal opportunity to get him on the pitch and affect the game - 2-0 up and playing against 10 men - but he got it wrong.

It was the wrong call to bring him on.
He’s a very selfish player who seems to have a lack of any football brain and a lack of awareness of when to release the ball, play the easy ball etc

Re: Amdouni
Thought we lost our momentum when he came on despite him looking really bright, had a couple of efforts on target and some neat link up play. Good yellow to take one for the side and right decision to bring him off to see it out.

He wasn’t playing well, not in the slightest. Amdouni should NEVER be introduced until we are at least 4-0 up with eight seconds to go.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 7:43 pmOn and then off? Leaving the totally ineffective Odobert on for the 90 was puzzling, but removing Amdouni wasn’t.
We were poor today, and against an 11 man Brentford would have comfortably lost that game today. After the sending off and the goal, Brentford managed to see out the rest of the first half at walking pace. That’s bloody shocking. Not as shocking as the defending after their subs tho…
We got away with that today.

Re: Amdouni
Odobert was totally ineffective until the second half when he set up Fofana with a perfectly weighted pass. He didn't do much after and I wanted to see JBG on to see it out but I can see the logic in keeping him on even if I don't necessarily agree in this case- if a player is anonymous but pops up with the decisive play for a goal, they can swing a game. Same reason I want to see more of Benson off the bench, he'd be very like for like in that regard for moments of magic.bobinho wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 8:24 pmHe wasn’t playing well, not in the slightest. Re: Amdouni
I felt for the lad really but it was the right decision to substitute him.
I screamed against West Ham at home “don’t change things” when we were 1-0 up with 10 mins left. I think Amdouni was taken off and this took pressure of West Ham’s right flank from where they created their 2 goals.
I screamed the same again today as we were comfortably on top and playing a good passing game. JBL was taken off and Odibert shifted out left.
Should have leave things as they are even if players tiring. Meddling seems to detrimentally affect our shape.

Against 11 men we’d have been 1-0 up with nothing to suggest we were about to get “comfortably” beaten.

If only he had the work rate and desire that we see from someone like Vitinho. I do almost feel sorry for him, but he is living the dream and getting paid ridiculous amounts to do it, so he should just put a bloody shift in.

Shocking sub to bring him on. We actually look like competing without him on the pitch.
Constantly runs down blind alleys, falls over, loses the ball and makes the wrong choices. He's a chocolate teapot of a player.
He's an absolute liability and Vincent's bizarre insistence on playing him game after game is one of the reasons we are where we are.

Re: Amdouni
Thought there was a great deal of complacency from VK to bring him on at 2-0. I always felt Brentford would get one back, and when that does happen it completely changes the feel and direction of the game. When we are backs against the wall defending a lead the two players I don’t want to see are Amdouni and Odobert. It was the right decision to take Amdouni off and we should also have replaced Odobert with JBG.

Re: Amdouni
It was probably a little bit complacent putting him on at 2-0 thinking we were cruising to victory.
That said Kompany saw that he was completely unsuited to the situation once the game changed and to his credit he wasn't afraid to hook him.

Re: Amdouni
Bringing him on was just another example of management and team doing their best not to win a game of football. It had been crying out for a second proper striker in the box to get on the end of balls bouncing around and he chose Amdouni who offer pretty much nothing off the ball. The game turned when he came on. How he didn’t see we was getting overrun on our left hand side and didn’t bring on Johan to offer protection for Charlie is also baffling.

Re: Amdouni
Some strange thinking on here, you might not Amdouni as a player.
But we were crying out for some quality forward play to finish the game off.
Berge the crab just kept passing sideways to Charlie who refused to cross, so gave it back and repeat.
We had a man advantage, why would we want a runner on the pitch?
It was the perfect time to bring him on.
We carried quite a few players today, to say they were a man down.
The sub didn't work out as everyone started losing their individual battles.
Not sure subbing him shored us up anymore but I can see why Vinny did it.

Agree with this. Amdouni actually had 2 shots on target in the first few minutes. But he took a yellow for the team, and then everyone seemed to lose their heads. VK looked to sure it up with Brownhill.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 7:26 amSome strange thinking on here, you might not Amdouni as a player.

It's a shame because had things fallen slightly differently, we'd have gone 3-0 up, and could have seen the best part of his game. Unfortunately we ended up seeing the worst
I still believe that in the right system Amdouni could be brilliant. But its just not working out for him atm

Likely to hit about 20 goals in the championship.
VK wanted to get Brownhill on the pitch- who else would he take off?

Re: Amdouni
People slagging VK off AGAIN…. 2-0 up and dominating the ball he obviously saw it as a chance to get Amdouni on and maybe he’d nick a goal and get a bit of confidence, as it was he got booked and with the game potentially getting tighter he decided to not risk him getting a second yellow and sured things up at the same time, which is what people were asking him to learn how to do early in the season. Bloke can’t win with some people.

Sure I read / heard somewhere recently that Craig Bellamy said that Amdouni was the signing they were really excited about and there was lots of competition to get him.
I think there's a player in there somewhere and he'd look better in a decent team.
Definitely some skill in those feet but not what's needed in our position.

Re: Amdouni
I don't think you could find a better opportunity to introduce a player like Amdouni, than when VK brought him on yesterday. 2-0 up against 10 men and we weren't getting shots away nearly enough.
He should have been in the perfect position to show us what he can do, but he looks absolutely shot of confidence. At the start of the season, although never a work horse, he was excellent at just creating himself enough space to get a shot off and scored a few.
As it stands now, he just isn't the right player this team needs for the remainder of this dog fight. I really hope he sticks with us next year and comes good.
