How would promotion ruin the club? What is the point of a club if they just exist and nothing more?
Don't see any reason why they couldn't operate again, at least at a slightly higher level. Their current onfield performances deserve nothing less. Seems a lifetime ago they were members of the Lancashire Combination playing in front of decent crowds, particularly when Burnley were away.

Some good standard players too back in the '50's with the likes of Harry Dean, Jim Smith and Harvey Hill being part of a more than decent forward-line. Entertaining to watch and no more than a short walk back home after the match.

My nephew Chris Rowley is the manager of West Didsbury.
Think he needs a strong finish to the season. Quite a few of their fans were saying they thought it might be time for a change.

Mind you, that was at half time and they’d just been battered all over the pitch in the first half. They were a bit better in the second but Padiham knew the game was won so took their foot off the gas.

I used to be quite involved in the running of an unnamed semi-professional club who play in National League South. It's not only money that players move for at that level. We had one of our better players leave to play 3 divisions lower at another local club because of the amount of free time he would lose at weekends by the travel time required for away games at that level. Had another who moved a league lower and took a wage cut (note sure you could call it a wage cut given the low amounts of money involved (from memory he was probably on about £250 a week maximum)) just because his mates played for the other team too. Given the money isn't life changing in non-league, you find it only really impacts on the younger players who haven't had the real life experiences of having a job, etc. so the lure of being paid to play football that you would probably do for free anyway is much more impactful.

I would suggest £250 a week would be deemed a high wage in the semi professional game up north.

It is but this was at National League South level, so relatively high levels of non-league. Some of the higher paid players in the league at better financially backed clubs (such as Ebbsfleet from memory) were paying up to £750 a week for their "star" players. Usually those with vast football league experience. I would say the average pay was closer to £100-150 a week but this was a good 5-7 years ago.

Most were based on appearances with alot of the younger players getting between £15-50 per match depending on ability.

Noticed on social media that Bury have stopped selling tickets for this game and the club aren’t sure if the game will go ahead. The pitch is a right mess and remedial work took place recently.

Or they’ve got injuries in a potential title decider and need to put it off by a week or two 😉

Have you seen photos of the pitch?

I think they have plans to put a 4g down in the closed season. There's a serious problem with a drain on the south stand side of the pitch. They have a backlog of fixtures, don't think another call off would do them any favours.

I had a ticket for this game on the original date. It was originally called off after an afternoons drizzle..after a couiple of days of dryish weather. So it didn't take much. The pictures I saw were dreadful considering the rainfall.
Still hoping to go this weekend with my Bury supporting friend. Bury have slipped up recently (losing at home to Barnoldswick notably) after being in the driving seat..so much so that I think if they lose this game they can probably kiss goodbye to winning the league and auto promotion. Padiham have also still to travel to Bury.

Mental for that level of football. While the club is kept going by volunteers who put in hours and hours for nothing, doesn't seem right somehow.

I’d be amazed if they do, then again, 2 games a week and £125 a game could be true, I certainly know of players that have been payed that in the NWC but didn’t think Padiham would.
Can’t believe I’m even thinking about it to be honest 😂

Highest paid player is brownhills brother . I won’t say what he’s on but it’s not 250 a week . A fair bit less but they do have a good budget this season. When I was there it was always called “petrol expenses”

Average is about £60.

Top earner £180. Per week even if there’s a midweek game.

They must have changed their ways if Brownhill is on a weekly contract. They must be scared of losing him.

It used to be paid out of petty cash for tax reasons.

Still a lot of money at that level, for a club which doesn't get massive crowds.

£180 is quite a lot but the £60 average for their squad is about right at that level.

That was last season but I don’t think their squad has changed too much so I expect it will still be around that figure.

Shame they conceded in the 96th minute to draw 2-2.

According to Padiham twitter they were much the better side.

Kendal play chadderton on Saturday and prestwich and chadderton still play each other too. Still got chance of play offs

Unreal afternoon for Padiham, the play offs is now in their hands. All played the same games apart from Kendal who have played 1 more.

Padiham won 3-0 against Charnock. Attendance 436

Chadderton got battered off Kendall 5-0.

Prestwich lost 2-1 at Irlam after being 1-0 up.

Leaves Padiham, Chadderton and Prestwich all on 74 points but Padiham ahead on GD.

Kendal 1 place and 2 points above Padiham but played 1 more game.

Cup semi final against Colne on Weds at Darwen, then Bury away at Gigg Lane on Saturday.

Share a thought for Colne who aswell as the Semi Final against Padiham, have to play 9 league games in the next 14 days.

The FA not budging that all fixtures have to fulfilled by 20th April and won’t extend it.

So 10 games in 14 days….

Even the threat of relegation if they don’t fulfil fixtures !!

Don't see how Colne are going to play another home game tbh. Not sure on the league rules but if they want to finish the season they need to start playing games elsewhere.
The Isle of Man game on Friday has been switched to Ilkley, they're flying over and playing a double header against Colne on Friday and then Barlick on Saturday!

Could ask Padiham I suppose don’t know if they would say yes, extra revenue for Padiham and Padiham don’t have another home game now unless they make the play offs.

Only reason Padiham could say no is because the pitch will take some hammer and could f*ck it up for themselves in the play offs.

Unbelievable really, why would a two week extension really matter? It’s not like they don’t want to play!

Unbelievable really, why would a two week extension really matter? It’s not like they don’t want to play!

As it happens, you going on Tuesday? I’ll be over if you fancy a pint/coffee
I know have to see how it pans out, yeah I’ll be there mate and it’s Wednesday at Darwen.

I have a feeling I’ll probably know you tbh with some of the posts you have put on here. Your 3 years older than me going of your username.

Alas the vast majority on here also suffer as you do.

Here’s Colnes revised fixture list.

They play a game the night before the semi final against Padiham which gives a massive advantage to the Storks.

Then the week after 4 games in 4 days, with still the Skem game to find a date for.

Awful from the FA.

Friday 12th 7.45pm kick off then day after at 3pm

The FA should hand there heads in shame, I can’t see how Colne will get all these played.

I'd play the youth team on Tuesday. Fair play to Silsden and Ilkley who are hosting games for them.
