Yellow Cards
Yellow Cards
Thinking back to yesterday’s winner for Man Utd. Should a player who celebrates a goal by whipping his shirt off for a few seconds be given a yellow and as we saw yesterday then potentially sent off.
He didn’t foul anyone or swear at the ref.
It seems that yellow cards are thrown around so easy these days. Surely celebrating a goal like yesterday shouldn’t result in being sent off. What is wrong with taking the shirt off? Is it worse than celebrating in front of the opposition fans for instance?

Simple. It's against the rules.

It's to keep the sponsors happy. Every camera in the ground is on the player who has scored the goal, and the sponsor pays a lot of money for their name to be in the limelight too. If the shirt comes off then the logo isn't visible.karatekid wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 9:12 amThinking back to yesterday’s winner for Man Utd. Re: Yellow Cards
It is and was correctly punished.
But, for me it’s just a non sensical rule. Those who made it haven’t been in that moment, with those emotions.
Young kid who was lauded as the next big thing, battles for years to get an opportunity. Scores the winner in the last minutes of the most passionate derby in the UK, and totally forgets himself.
Stupid rule!
Those who have messages on their shirts, different story!

Not sure whipping my shirt off would be the first thing that’s going through my mind after scoring a last minute winnerCooclaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 9:31 amIt is and was correctly punished.

Re: Yellow Cards
Player says he'd forgotten about the first yellow card.
Re: Yellow Cards
I assume that as cards are competition specific these days the lad will miss the semi-final
Re: Yellow Cards
Wasn't it banned as someone decided it might affect crowd control?
Re: Yellow Cards
Running into the crowd or taking your shirt off should never ever be a yellow card
There are far more deserving incidents that I would insist on a yellow:
Keeper flops to the floor for no reason other than to waste time (warning, then yellow)
Player who shoves an opponent into advertising hoardings should be an automatic yellow every time
Sliding in with studs showing on a goalkeeper

Re: Yellow Cards
It was banned because players were taking their shirts off to show political and other slogans.
Instead of getting excited about whether or not it should be banned, why not explain to the managers what the rules are, and let them give their players detailed instruction in how not to take their shirts off? Surely it isn't hard.

Re: Yellow Cards
It was rightly banned to stop players making "statements" whether political or otherwise, but I also think there needs to be a curbing on some of the more outlandish celebrating. Coaches, subs, youth players, all invading the pitch to pile on the goalscorer is becoming ridiculous and the amount of time it all takes never gets added on. Celebrating goals has always been an intrinsic part of the game and don't get me wrong, I hate VAR because it's spoilt a lot of that, but it just seems all this running to the dugout or subs running on and mobbing the goalscorer has become daft. (Imo)

Re: Yellow Cards
It’s also seen as a sign of disrespect to the club - the player wants to make it about them, show off their chest or whatever. Should definitely be a yellow.

You can't be serious. I can't think of anything more potentially dangerous. If I'm in the crowd with grandchildren, (who tend to be near the front), the last thing I would want is a player piling into us and the crowd surging forward.
The crowd should stay in the stands, (and if the encroach on the pitch they get a significant ban.
Likewise players should stay on the pitch.

Re: Yellow Cards
I thought the law was also related to wearing the correct attire at all times when on the pitch but may be wrong. The problem is, where do you draw the line? Shorts off and windmilling around the head (windmilling the shorts!)? Easier if players just don't undress during games, it's not something I've ever had the impulse to do when playing football.

Diallo should have worn an identical match shirt underneath the one he had on

Re: Yellow Cards
I'd like to think a little bit of discretion could be applied in these instances. But then I remembered there is very little, if any at all of it, left in the game of football. I was surprised at how much time was played after the goal was scored.

Re: Yellow Cards
There was a game in Italy last season where a striker scored and took his shirt off then got a 2nd yellow and sent off for it.... VAR then reviewed the goal and disallowed it for offside

Re: Yellow Cards
What if you leave the playing area and then take your shirt off then replace it before returning to the playing area?
Re: Yellow Cards
Ok keep the yellow card if they jump into the family standnil_desperandum wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 12:16 pmYou can't be serious. I can't think of anything more potentially dangerous. modern goal celebrations are cringing.
the skidding on the knees one shows a particular lack of personality.
