Ive got vibrant soles on walking boots and shoes , find them generally hard wearing and grippy..

As an aside i believe that the british commando’s now use boots with vibram soles

Vibram soles are as good as it gets. Had them on a pair of Karrimor walking boots. Lasted years and still hardly any wear

Unfortunately to many people wear what used to be called “winkle picker shoes” which are bad news for their crumped up toes.

I thought that these 5 finger Vibram shoes might be the answer to the problem.

I've had a pair, I was particularly smug about becoming a 'bare foot' athlete. Took me about six weeks to develop chronic plantar fasciitis and about six months to get rid of it. I'm back in Asics now, I don't look as cool but atleast I can walk!

I’ve had some for years.

Zero water protection and the soles are woefully cushioned. Only useful for the occasional wall climbing but anything longer than 1hr in em and they’re painful.

Hope that helps.

I've had similar shoes - not quite vibrams but they had the same minimal sole and the same material on the sole.

Really good in the gym etc just one tip - if you intend to do any barefoot runs or anything gradually work your way in to distance.

I did 3 miles off the bat and had horrific shin splints for weeks!

I bought a pair and wore them like 5 times. Not the most comfortable barefoot shoes, between the toes there's a lot of rough tissue which can cause blisters. I'm very happy with vivobarefoot and a friend of mine likes skinner socks and shoes.

Can't go back to wearing conventional thin shoes that squeeze your toes, with an elevated heel, after you're used to barefoot. So much better for your feet you can't even compare.

You would be crazy to do any form of barefoot ruining on the footpaths, roads, parks and countryside around here. Unless you enjoy getting dogshit between your toes.

I hot a pair of HOKA walking shoes with vibram soles along with some Merrells. Really comfortable but they've worn down a lot quicker than I anticipated, its made me realise I must walk like Charlie Chaplin.

The problem is if a rubber compound is too hard there is no grip.

Back in the day I had some Korean tyres which lasted for ever but were utterly useless in the wet.

I've never tried their shoes but I have 3 pairs of boots that deploy their soles and I have to say the are very comfy and I think they look really cool too, the prices I paid might not be for the the faint hearted though depending on what you usually spend on footwear.

I have a pair of Fracap M120, Danner Bull Run Christy and the classic Redwing Moc toe boots.

The only thing I will say is the soles outer wall is a bugger to keep clean and the do carry a stain so I always have a tub of Pink Stuff handy to bring them back up to scratch 😉

Soles only.
I’ve had vibram soles on Meindl and Zamberlan amongst others going back to the 90s. I’ve never understood the acclaim they get. I find them very slippy on wet stone, even just walking.

As the 5 toe variety cost around £100 I think I'll give them a miss for now but thanks for the helpful posters.

I’ve had a couple of pairs and I have a bit of a love hate thing with them. Running I felt like they didn’t offer enough protection and I could feel every pebble I ran over. Walking ver comfy. Hard to put on wet feet and difficult to get the sizing right. Overall I’d rate them 7/10
